Cruelty to animals

MOUNT CARMEL - James A. Dougherty, 41, with a last known address of 336 W. Sixth St., Mount Carmel, was charged with three counts of cruelty to animals for an incident that occurred at his former residence May 8.

According to borough police, Dougherty abandoned his residence, leaving three cats without food or water. The property was condemned by Mount Carmel Borough Code Enforcement after finding deplorable conditions inside.

The felines that were rescued were transported to Ruth Steinhart SPCA for care.

Retail thefts

COAL TOWNSHIP - Jenna L. Schickley, 24, of Shamokin, was charged by township police with retail theft for incidents that occurred at Walmart from April 16 to June 13. Police said Schickley stole merchandise on 12 different days totaling $940.06.

Joshua M. Daya, 31, of Elysburg, was charged by township police with retail theft for an incident that occurred at Walmart May 9. Police allege Daya stole a Sony PlayStation 3 and a video game, total value $258.97.

Disorderly conduct

MOUNT CARMEL - Borough police cited a 15-year-old girl for disorderly conduct for an incident in the 200 block of North Park Street at 5:35 a.m. Sunday, June 8.

Police said the girl, who was involved in a domestic disturbance with her mother, exited her home and pulled a mail box off of the residence and threw it and two bottles at a neighbor.

Man charged in assault incidents

An Athens man was recently charged with simple assault and harassment by Athens Township police for two incidents within a week of one another.

According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Jesse James Carling, 31, is accused of striking, pushing and grabbing an adult female June 12 at a township residence. Carling is also accused of grabbing the same female by the throat during a June 17 argument, police said.

Carling's preliminary hearings for both sets of charges are scheduled for July 15.

Trespassing teens

MOUNT CARMEL - Five teenagers were cited with criminal trespass for a May 24 incident.

Borough police said a witness reported seeing several people on top of a building owned by Northeast Industrial Services, of Shamokin. According to the witness, three males and two females left and walked west on Second Street. Borough police located the group near Second and Apple streets. The teens were transported to the Mount Carmel police department.

Two 14-year-old boys from Mount Carmel were cited for criminal trespass and criminal mischief and a 14-year-old boy from Mount Carmel, a 14-year-old girl from Kulpmont and a 13-year-old girl from Kulpmont were cited for criminal trespass.

Fireworks charge

ASHLAND - Robert Lee Knoeppel, 38, of 1214 W. Walnut St., Coal Township, was cited at 5:25 p.m. Monday by Ashland police for disorderly conduct.

They said Knoeppel was observed throwing a lit firework from a moving vehicle into the road at Third and Centre streets.

Liquor law violation

MOUNTOURSVILLE - Bumpers Beverage Inc. was cited June 12 with violating liquor laws.

The Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement said Bumpers sold malt or brewed beverages on credit rather than following protocol of requiring payment at the time of purchase. Employees also accepted cash as payment from one or more licensees, which is forbidden under current liquor laws. Violations occurred June 14, 2013, and other occasions within the past year.

Code violation

COAL TOWNSHIP - Gary L. Cox, of 792 State Route 487, Elysburg, was cited for code violations May 27 for allowing brush, grass and weeds to exceed a maximum height of six inches at his 903 W. Spruce St. property.

COAL TOWNSHIP - Charles Coolen, of 3189 Whiskey Run Road, Muncy Valley, was cited for code violations June 17 for high brush, grass and weeds on his vacant lot on Pulaski Avenue.

COAL TOWNSHIP - Mary E. Manney, of 503 Wall St., Milton, was cited for brush, grass and weeds exceeding a maximum height of six inches and for accumulation of garbage, carpet and indoor furniture on a porch at 1011 W. Willow St.

Trespassing, theft

MOUNT CARMEL - Andrew William Pankotai, 29, of 25 Blue Springs Terrace, Danville, was charged with two counts of criminal trespass and one count of theft by unlawful taking for an incident Sept. 7.

State police said Pankotai entered the recently established residence of his wife, from whom he is separated, at 1267 Chestnut St., Kulpmont. His wife awoke at 8:30 a.m. to discover several items missing from her living room, including a laptop, a leather wallet, homemade CDs and prescription medications. The woman also told police the car stereo of her vehicle, which had been locked and parked on a side street near the residence on the previous night, was missing. State police questioned Pankotai at Northumberland County Prison Dec. 8 and he admitted to entering the home and vehicle and removing the items.

DUI, careless driving

MOUNT CARMEL - Duane Leland Bennett Jr., 56, of 344 N. Market St., Mount Carmel, was charged with three counts of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance and one count each of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and careless driving.

According to Mount Carmel Borough Police, Bennett's maroon Chevrolet Camaro was discovered at 3:05 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, resting on its passenger side and partially submerged in the Shamokin Creek; however, Bennett was not with the vehicle.

Police spoke with Bennett at his home, which is adjacent to the crash site. Bennett had abrasions and small bleeding wounds on his body and his clothing was in disarray. He told police he was looking for his cell phone to call police to report he had driven his car into the creek.

Police saw a small plastic bag containing what appeared to be marijuana on the coffee table and two homemade smoking devices containing what appeared to be marijuana residue and several prescription tablets and bottles strewn about.

Without being questioned, Bennett said he had smoked marijuana on the previous day and had made the pipes to smoke the marijuana. He also told police he was driving the vehicle when it crashed into the creek.

An on-site field sobriety test was not performed due to Bennett's condition. Bennett was transported to Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital where a blood test showed he had marijuana, Oxycodone, Oxymorphone and Lorazapam in his blood stream.

Theft, trespassing

MOUNT CARMEL - Sean Ryan Baker, 27, of 18 W. Fifth St., Mount Carmel, was charged with burglary, trespassing, theft, receiving stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia for an incident occurring at 1:37 a.m. May 2.

Mount Carmel Borough police said Baker broke into a locked bedroom and went through the pants of his mother's boyfriend looking for the man's wallet. The victim told police he awoke to find Baker lying on the floor of his bedroom, pants in hand, and the wallet removed from the pants.

In Baker's bedroom, police found three pipes which appeared to contain marijuana residue. Baker admitted to police he had been smoking marijuana.

Condition updates

- Joseph Yost, of Aristes, remained in critical condition at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, Friday afternoon, according to a nursing supervisor. Yost was injured in a Thursday morning crash on Route 61 near the entrance to Harmony Mine when he lost control of his vehicle and it rolled over, landing on its wheels partially straddling the concrete median.

- Joseph Grosch, 20, of 416 Lake Glory Road, Cleveland Township, who was injured in a four-wheeler crash Thursday on Eisenhower Road, Cleveland Township, was transferred from Geisinger-Bloomsburg Hospital to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he was treated and released Friday, after being listed in serious condition Thursday, according to a nursing supervisor.

District Attorney Daniel J. Barrett announced the following recent criminal case resolutions in the Bradford County Court of Common Pleas, Towanda:

Sentenced

Timothy R. Mosier Jr., 28, New Albany, Pa., was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility of 48 days, and County Intermediate Punishment for 24 months; the first six months of CIP shall be spent under electronic monitor, for the offenses of Conspiracy to Deliver bath salts/MDPV, Disorderly Conduct and Harassment. The sentence for Harassment and Disorderly Conduct was 15 months probation and $300 in fines. Trooper Michael Mosier of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Mosier following investigation of an incident that occurred in October in Albany Township. Trooper Michael Adams arrested Mosier in November for Conspiracy to deliver MDPV (bath salts).

James M. McDonald, 38, Wyalusing, Pa., was sentenced to Probation for a term of six months, and a fine of $500.00, he will also lose his driver's license for 12 months, for the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor. Trooper Mark Sadowski of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested McDonald following investigation of an incident that occurred in Wyalusing Township.

Charles T. Makinster, 49, Gillett, Pa., was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility of from four days to six months, and a fine of $500, he will also lose his driver's license for 12 months, for the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor.

Makinster was incarcerated for 20 days following a violation of conditions of bail in May. Trooper Michael Mislevy of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Makinster following investigation of an incident that occurred in Columbia Township.

David Brown, 21, Towanda, Pa., was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in a Pennsylvania State Correctional Facility of from seven months to 30 months, he was also ordered to pay restitution of $6676.90 and a fine of $1500.00, for the offense of Flight to Avoid Apprehension, a felony of the third degree and Theft, also a felony of the third degree. Deputy James Hart of the Sheriff's Office and Officer Ryan Edsell of the Towanda Borough Police Department arrested Brown for the offense.

Christopher Davis, 48, Athens, Pa., was sentenced to Probation for a term of 12 months, and a fine of $500, for the offenses of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor, Disorderly Conduct, a summary offense and Harassment also a summary offense. Officer Jeremy Horton of the Sayre Borough Police Department and Officer Bruce Hoffman also of the Sayre Borough Police Department arrested Davis for the offenses in May and November of 2013.

Shannon R. Grimes, 26, Towanda, Pa., was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility of from 30 days to six months and a fine of $750; she will also lose her driver's license for 12 months for the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor. Trooper Steve Steranski of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Grimes following investigation of an incident that occurred in North Towanda Borough.

David Anthony Soprano, 52, Waverly, N.Y., was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in a Pennsylvania State Correctional Facility of from 11 months to 36 months, and a fine of $1000, for the offense of Delivery of a Controlled Substance-MDPV (bath salts). Trooper Michael Adams of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Soprano following investigation of an incident that occurred in Athens Township in February.

Mark Thetga, 25, Rome, Pa., was sentenced to Probation for a term of six months and a fine of $200 for the offense of Criminal Mischief and Violating Restrictions on Alcoholic Beverages. Trooper Michael Teresk of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Thetga following investigation of the incidents that occurred in Windham Township in November. Thetga was incarcerated in the Bradford County Correctional Facility for a day after his arrest.

Guilty Pleas

David Glenn Sands, 44, Towanda, Pa., entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol and Driving while Suspended for a DUI offense. Sands will be sentenced on July 31, 2014, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Trooper James Dughi of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Sands following investigation of the incident.

Seth Shaughessy, 19, Athens, Pa., entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Possession of Marijuana and Drug Paraphernalia, a misdemeanor. Officer Richard Horton of the Athens Township Police Department arrested Shaughessy for the offense in February.

Kathy Jo Anthony, 43, Milan, Pa., entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Retail Theft, a misdemeanor of the first degree. Anthony will be sentenced on July 31, 2014, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Officer Denny Slater of the Athens Township Police Department arrested Anthony for the offense in February.

Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition (ARD)

Mary Ellen Bodolus, 51, Athens, Pa., charged with the offense of Retail Theft, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of six months. While on probation, Bodolus will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department, which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use.

Additionally, Bodolus must perform 40 hours of community service. Officer John Fedorchak of the Athens Township Police Department filed the charges in February 2014 for the offense in Athens Township.

Harry Cohen, 47, Waverly, N.Y., charged with the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of 12 months. While on probation, Cohen will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department, which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, Cohen must perform community service with the DUI Litter Brigade and attend a Victim Impact Panel and he will lose his Pennsylvania driving privilege for 60 days.

Officer Sean Flynn of the Sayre Borough Police Department filed the charges on Jan. 18, 2012 for the offense in Sayre Borough.


Hopewell Crime for June 22

The following information was provided by the Hopewell Police Department.

- Assault-Aggravated: At 5:43 p.m. June 9, police responded to the 400 block of S. 21st Ave. for a reported disturbance. Known offenders attempted to hit victim with a crow bar, vandalized vehicle and made threatening phone calls. No injuries.

- Assault-Aggravated: At 10:38 p.m. June 12, police responded to the 3200 block of Courthouse Road for a reported assault. During argument, known offender attempted to cut victim with knife and was arrested. No injuries.

Crash

STONINGTON - According to state police, Paul A. Melachrinos, 51, of Sunbury, was injured while traveling north on Tressler Road when he experienced a sudden physical condition which caused him to veer off the roadway and hit a tree.

Vehicle theft

STONINGTON - A Yamaha Rhino was reported stolen from a man in Sunbury.

According to state police, William Benner's 2008 Yamaha Rhino side by side ATV was stolen sometime between 10 p.m. June 20 and 9:30 p.m. June 21 from where it was parked adjacent to his garage on Kasey Drive, Rockefeller Township. The vehicle was valued at $6,000. Anyone with information is asked to contact state police at 570-286-5601.

Harassment

STONINGTON - State police said harassment charges are pending on two unnamed individuals, aged 40 and 46, and both of Paxinos, who entered into a verbal argument which escalated into a physical altercation at 7:40 a.m. June 20 on Route 890 in Rockefeller Township.

Burglary

LYKENS - Jon William Webster, 22, of Wiconisco, has been charged with burglary for an incident that occurred at 11:06 a.m. June 19.

State police said Webster used a credit card to gain access to the residence of Debbie Sue Ressler, 55, Tanar Wayne Rhine, 33, Taylor Lee Hoover, 22, and Sadie Marie Ressler, 20, 421 South St., Wiconisco Township, while they were not home and removed change jars from the house.

Simple assault/harassment

LYKENS - Dakota Scott Boyer, 21, of Wiconisco, has been charged with simple assault and harassment for an incident that occurred at 6:30 p.m. on June 19.

State police said Boyer threw a coffee table at Jon William Webster, 22, of Wiconisco, at 403 N. Second St., Lykens Borough. Boyer then struck Jon in the head and face with a closed fist. Boyer also shoved and struck Jen Grace Webster, 34, of Lykens, in the stomach.

Man injured in motorcycle crash in Canton Twp.

A man was transported by emergency medical helicopter to Robert Packer Hospital after he was injured in a motorcycle accident Saturday evening on state Route 154 in Canton Township, the Canton fire chief said.

"He had some face and head trauma, but it was probably not life-threatening," said Canton Fire Chief J. Scott May.

The man, who is from Michigan, was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, which occurred in the area of Pine Swamp Road, he said.

"It looks like he lost control on a corner, and went off the road," May said.

May said he did not know the name of the man.

The fire chief said he thought the accident occurred around 8 p.m.

No information was available from the state police on Sunday about the accident.

Bicyclist stuck by car in Athens Township

A 9-year-old boy from Dushore was struck by a car Saturday evening as he was bicycling in Athens Township, according to the Athens Township police.

The accident occurred at approximately 8:32 p.m. as a car was traveling east on McDuffey Street, police said.

The boy came out of Sammy Lane and bicycled "right in front of the car," said Officer John Fedorchak of the Athens Township police.

The car struck the bicyclist, he said.

The boy was transported by ambulance to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre and then transferred to an emergency medical helicopter, which flew him to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, police said.

The boy "is now home and doing well," Fedorchak said on Sunday afternoon.

No citations or charges will be filed against the driver of the car, Fedorchak said.

The boy was in Athens Township to visit his mother, who lives on McDuffey Street, he said.

Fedorchak said he did not have with him the names of the boy or the driver of the car.

Theft reported at Memorial Hospital

An 89-year-old woman reported that someone recently stole $200 in cash from her wallet at Memorial Hospital in Towanda, according to police.

The woman said she left her wallet on a seat in a waiting room while she was in a restroom, according to the state police.

The victim reported that when she returned to her seat, she noticed the money was missing, police said.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, state police said.

Ring stolen in Wysox Twp.

State police said they are continuing to investigate an incident in which someone stole a ring from an 82-year-old woman's residence on state Route 187 in Wysox Township.

The ring was stolen from her makeup/jewelry drawer in a bathroom, police said.

The theft occurred sometime between Sept. 1 and April 30, state police said.

The victim looked around her residence for about two months in an attempt to locate the ring before contacting the police, according to the state police at Towanda.

Underage drinking

COAL TOWNSHIP - Three individuals were cited by Coal Township Police for an incident Friday when police found three minors in possession of alcohol and that the three had consumed alcohol in the Third Patch of Bear Valley Road.

Police cited Colton Zimmerman, 18, of Herndon, for underage drinking and a summary offense of minors prohibited from driving with any alcohol in their system. Brent Heintzelman, 18, of Herndon, was charged with underage drinking, and a 17-year-old Shamokin female was cited for underage drinking.

Crash

STONINGTON - A Kulpmont woman was injured in a single car crash in East Cameron Township at 4:37 a.m. Sunday.

State police said Matthew S. Dietz, 23, of Mount Carmel, was traveling south on Gap Road when the vehicle drifted off of the right side of the roadway. Dietz then over corrected, causing the vehicle to spin into the oncoming lane of travel before striking an embankment. The vehicle then rolled onto its roof and continued to slide down before coming to rest on its roof. Dietz suffered a minor injury in the crash. A passenger, Amber M. Wondoloski, 27, of Kulpmont, was also injured in the accident. Police said alcohol and drugs are suspected to be a factor in the crash.

STONINGTON - Two people were cited in a two-car collision in Lower Mahanoy Township at 8:04 p.m. Friday.

State police said John L. Gahres, 75, of Dalmatia, was exiting a driveway on the east side of route 147, attempting to travel south, when he struck the front of a Ford Escape driven by Susan D. Meilke, 56, of Trevorton. Gahres, Meilke, and a passenger in Gahres' vehicle were all uninjured. Gahres was cited with a traffic citation and Meilke was cited for not wearing her seatbelt.

Public nuisance

SHAMOKIN - Russell Kolody, 81, of 603 W. Mulberry St., Shamokin, was cited twice by Cpl. Bryan Primerano for allowing several of his properties to be in danger of collapsing.

Primerano cited Kolody for having broken glass, unsecure roofs and shingles falling off the roofs of properties he owns at 603, 605, 607, 609, 611, 613 and 615 W. Mulberry St. and 442 W. Mulberry St. The citations were issued Sunday.

Runaway sought

EAST CAMERON TOWNSHIP - State police at Stonington report Destiny Hand, 14, of Shamokin, ran away from an Upper Road, East Cameron Township, residence between 11 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Saturday by unknown means to an unknown destination.

Hand is 5 feet, 2 inches tall, weighs approximately 115 pounds, has short black hair and is known to frequent the Shamokin-Coal Township area.

Anyone who comes into contact with or knows the whereabouts of Hand is asked to contact state police at 570-286-5601.

Public drunkenness

SHAMOKIN - Todd Hummel, 48, of 124 E. Chestnut St., was cited for public drunkenness after allegedly causing disturbances at Dunkin' Donuts and with several cars on Market and Independence streets, at 10:30 p.m. Sunday. The citation was filed with Cpl. Bryan Primerano of the Shamokin police.

Two vehicle crash

MONROE TOWNSHIP ­- No one was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 10:45 a.m. Sunday on Routes 11 and 15.

State police at Selinsgrove report a 2012 Ford Escape, driven by Tria P. Dove, 71, of Geneseo, N.Y., was legally stopped at a red light at the intersection of Ninth Street when it was rear ended by a 2011 Toyota Rav 4, driven by Robert G. Bogutskie, 65, of Kulpmont, traveling south.

Neither driver nor Bogutskie's passenger, Frances G. Bogutskie, 67, of Kulpmont, were injured.

Retail theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - Police have filed either retail theft charges or citations against a number of individuals for incidents at Walmart Supercenter, Route 61.

- Corena Reid, 42, of Shamokin, was cited for two separate incidents. Police said she allegedly stole $28.32 worth of merchandise June 3. She was also cited for an incident June 20 when she allegedly stole various clothing items, body wash and hair coloring valued at $56.70.

- David McCormick, 36, of Shamokin, was charged with two misdemeanor counts of retail theft after allegedly stealing $334.69 of merchandise May 13 and $465.80 worth of items May 27.

- Rodger Facer Jr., 26, of Shamokin, was charged with misdemeanor retail theft for allegedly stealing $267.72 worth of DVDs May 26.

- Bonnie Klinger, 23, of Ashland, was charged with a misdemeanor count of retail theft after allegedly stealing $166 worth of merchandise May 29.

Driving charges filed

ZERBE TOWNSHIP - Paul Lee, 50, of 439 W. Shamokin St., Trevorton, was charged with driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked, and cited for turning movements and required signals following a traffic stop at 2:14 p.m. Tuesday in the 1300 block of Susquehanna Street.

Zerbe Township Police Chief Robert John reported he observed Lee turning from Susquehanna Street onto a dirt road without using a turn signal. The chief observed Lee get out of the vehicle from the drivers side and a woman get out from the passenger side. When John called for Lee to come over, Lee told him that his wife was driving the vehicle and kept walking away.

The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin.

Simple assault

COAL TOWNSHIP - Stanley Levi, 39, of 1255 Pulaski Ave., Coal Township, was charged with simple assault, harassment and two counts of terroristic threats following a series of incidents between 9 p.m. Thursday and 8 p.m. Saturday at his residence.

Patrolman David Sage of the Coal Township Police reported in court documents Levi was fighting with his live-in girlfriend when he allegedly pushed the woman to the ground and punched her in the shoulder, causing soreness. On two occasions, Levi allegedly threatened to kill the victim and see that her two minor children, also in the house, were molested.

Levi was arraigned Sunday before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III of Shamokin and released on $5,000 cash bail.

Failure to disperse

SHAMOKIN - A Shamokin man was placed in Northumberland County Prison following a incident on South Market Street at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Shamokin City Police Patrolman William Zalinski reported in court documents police were called to 18 S. Market St. for a report of a disorderly crowd harassing a resident. One of the residents, Tracey L. Carmen, 35, of 310 N. Shamokin St., Shamokin, told the officers he wasn't leaving and there was nothing they could do about it.

After police dispersed the crowd, Carmen yelled an obscenity toward the officers and was taken into custody.

Carmen was charged with misdemeanor counts of failure of disorderly persons to disperse, disorderly conduct and harassment. He was arraigned Thursday before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin, and placed in Northumberland County Prison on $1,000 cash bail.

Simple assault

SUNBURY - Christopher Ulsh, 25, of 317 Chestnut St., was charged by Sunbury City Police with simple assault and harassment after allegedly assaulting his father, Timothy Ulsh, causing injuries to his elbow, back and left shoulder at 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

Christopher Ulsh was arraigned Sunday by on-call Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III of Shamokin and placed in Northumberland County Prison on $5,000 cash bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, July 1, before Magisterial District Judge Benjamin Apfelbaum, of Sunbury.

Man charged with marijuana possession

A Barton, N.Y. man was recently arrested for criminal possession of marijuana by Tioga County, N.Y. sheriff's deputies.

According to information from the sheriff's office, Cole W. Duffek, 22, was also charged for operating a vehicle with the driver's view obstructed.

Police said Duffek was found to be in possession of approximately 50 grams of marijuana during a June 16 traffic stop on Route 282 in Nichols. While interviewing Duffek, police detected indicators of criminal activity and an odor of marijuana from the vehicle, police said.

Duffek was arraigned in Nichols Town Court and released with special conditions, police said. Duffek is scheduled to reappear July 1 in court.

Theft by deception

MONROE TOWNSHIP - Kyle Donovan Morris, 20, and Bobbi Lynn Deivert, 21, both of Sunbury, were charged by state police at Selinsgrove with theft by deception and related offenses involving incidents that occurred at Walmart between April 21 and June 2.

Police said Morris and Deivert were involved in multiple theft transactions in which they took items off the shelf and returned them at the customer service desk without paying for them.

Retail theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - Patrolman Matthew Hashuga has cited three people for retail theft relating to incidents at Walmart Supercenter.

Taralese Mallory, 23, of Shamokin, was charged with stealing $150 worth of merchandise May 24.

Nicole L. Guise, 24, of Marion Heights, was cited for stealing $35 worth of merchandise June 10.

Aaron M. Bixler, 24, of Shamokin, was cited for stealing $80 worth of merchandise June 12.

Guilty plea

SHAMOKIN - Matthew Alan Chambers, 32, of 624 N. Third St., Sunbury, pleaded guilty Tuesday to criminal mischief and disorderly conduct and was ordered by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III to pay $400 in fines plus costs, make restitution totaling $850 and placed on two years probation.

Two counts of theft by unlawful taking were withdrawn.

Chambers was charged by Pennsylvania State Police Cpl. George Ritchey with stealing wiring, copper, a heavy piece of metal and a heavy metal bar from an unoccupied residence along Dogwood Lane in Shamokin Township Aug. 3, 2012. He also is accused of causing damage at the property.

Retail theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - Justine L. Therrien, 27, of 211 S. Market St., Mount Carmel, was charged by Patrolman Matthew Hashuga with retail theft for allegedly stealing $130 worth of merchandise from Walmart along Route 61 Feb. 10.

Retail theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - Patrolman Matthew Hashuga has charged Jenna L. Schickley, 25, of 921 N. Washington St., Shamokin, with retail theft for allegedly removing $940.06 in merchandise from Walmart between April 16 and June 13.

Guilty plea

SHAMOKIN - Tracey L. Carmen, 35, of 310 N. Shamokin St., Shamokin, pleaded guilty Tuesday to disorderly conduct and was ordered by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III to pay a $300 fine plus costs and placed on supervised probation for one year.

Additional charges of harassment and failure of disorderly persons to disperse were withdrawn.

Carmen was charged by Shamokin Patrolman William Zalinski in connection with a June 18 disturbance at 18 S. Market St.

Pleads guilty

SHAMOKIN - Adam L. Moore, 29, of 229 W. Sunbury St., Shamokin, pleaded guilty Tuesday to disorderly conduct and was ordered by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III to pay a $300 fine plus costs and placed on supervised probation for one year.

Moore was charged by Shamokin Police Chief Darwin Tobias III with causing a disturbance outside his residence May 9 by attempting to fight with another male and chasing people with a board. Moore also is accused of smashing items inside 233 W. Sunbury St.

Bicyclist injured

SHAMOKIN - Aidan Fritchey, 9, of 17 E. Church St., Shamokin, suffered a scrape on his right shin Tuesday afternoon when a bicycle he was riding struck a 2009 Hyundai at the intersection of North Shamokin and Spurzheim streets.

Patrolman William Miner, who investigated the 1:15 p.m. accident, said Martha Miller, 48, of 34 N. Franklin St., Shamokin, was driving east on Spurzheim Street and was almost at a complete stop at the intersection when Fritchey rode the bike in front of her. Police said a pedal on the bike struck the front bumper of the auto, causing Fritchey to fall and scrape his shin.

Fritchey was treated at the scene by personnel from AREA Services Ambulance.

Harassment

MOUNT CARMEL - Lawerance Eric Pfaff, 54, of 216 S. Chestnut St., Mount Carmel, was charged by Patrolman Matthew Dillman with two counts of harassment in connection with a June 8 disturbance at 211 S. Chestnut St.

Police reported Pfaff made three lewd, lascivious and threatening calls to Diane Ruskuski between 11:46 and 11:59 p.m.

Burglary charges

KULPMONT - Charges of burglary, criminal trespass and possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts each of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property were filed by Patrolman Patrick McAndrew against Eric John Janoka, 34, of 622 Scott St., Kulpmont.

According to a criminal complaint filed at the office of Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, Janoka is accused of breaking into the apartment of Steven Minucci and Julia Breland, of 622 Scott St., Apt. A, and stealing PlayStation systems, games, computer equipment and notary equipment. Police said numerous drug paraphernalia including spoons with a white substance, hypodermic needles, utility blades and wax paper were found in Janoka's apartment.

Drug offenses

MOUNT CARMEL - Lt. Christopher Buhay has charged Todd Alan Daldos, 45, of 143 S. Locust St., Mount Carmel, with misbranding a controlled substance and possessing 23 tablets of Tramadol relating to a May 9 incident at his residence.

Drug paraphernalia

MOUNT CARMEL - Chief of Police Todd Owens has charged James A. Madison, 41, of 135 Clermont St., Marion Heights, with eight counts of possession of drug paraphernalia involving a May 3 incident at his home.

Police said seven glass smoking pipes and one metal smoking pipe were found in Madison's possession.

Man charged with failure to register

A Towanda man was taken into custody recently for failure to register as a sexual offender.

According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark, Richard Eugene Grant, 31, was charged by state police with the above offense on June 16. Grant is accused of failing to report a change of address to the authorities within 10 days, as required by law for a person who has been convicted of a sexual offense.

Grant is scheduled to appear today before Judge Clark for his preliminary hearing.

Man charged with criminal trespass

A Meshoppen man was cited by state police recently for criminal trespass.

According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark, Chad A. Fassett, 31, was charged with the above offense following an incident on April 20. Fassett is accused of entering the residence of Sheilia Bump without her permission on that date.

Fassett is scheduled to appear before Judge Clark on July 23 for his preliminary hearing.

Man charged with false reports

A Towanda man has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark to answer a charge of making false reports to law enforcement authorities.

According to information filed in Clark's office, Richard Alfred Johnson, 28, was charged by state police with the above offense following an incident that occurred on Dec. 13, 2013. On that date, according to the report, Trooper Michael Tribendis of the state police investigated a burglary at the home of Brooke Marie Silvers in Monroe Township. Silvers explained that she and her boyfriend, Johnson, came home earlier and found the apartment had been broken into. Silvers also informed Tribendis that her television was missing. Johnson told Tribendis his Xbox was also missing from the apartment.

In the report, Tribendis said he investigated the scene, and was able to determine from the evidence that the burglary had been staged. Further investigation led him to believe that Johnson, who had broken up earlier in the day with Silver following an argument, had staged the robbery and was in possession of his Xbox when he reported it stolen.

Johnson is scheduled to appear before Judge Clark for his preliminary hearing on July 30.

Man charged with possession

A Dushore man was cited by state police recently on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark, Robert Lloyd Yates, 20, was charged with the above offense following an incident on May 3. On that date, state police investigated a vehicle on James Street in North Towanda Township that Yates was occupying at the time, and found three burned objects that later tested positive as marijuana cigarettes.

Yates is scheduled to appear before Judge Clark on July 30.

Man faces reckless endangerment charge

A Forksville man has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark to answer a charge of recklessly endangering another person.

According to information filed in Clark's office, Charles David Wiles, 23, was cited by the state police for the above offense following an incident on Oct. 23, 2013. On that date, Trooper Michael Tribendis of the state police was dispatched to Bradford County Children and Youth to investigate a report of a 4-year-old child spotted playing on Front Street in New Albany. Based upon this information, Tribendis spoke to Wiles, who denied that the child was on the roadway. However, evidence obtained by Tribendis from witnesses indicated the child was on the road, unsupervised at the time.

Wiles is scheduled to appear before Judge Clark on July 30.

Man charged with simple assault

A Towanda man was cited by borough police recently following a domestic dispute.

According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark, Jason Martinet, 37, has been charged with simple assault; harassment; endangering the welfare of a child; access to a device by an unauthorized user; and receiving stolen property. Martinet is accused of striking and injuring Amanda Anania in May at their residence, as well as threatening her children and accessing and removing money from her bank account when he was not authorized to do so.

Martinet is scheduled to appear before Judge Clark for his preliminary hearing on July 16.

Man accused of possession

A Towanda man was charged by state police recently with possession of a controlled substance.

According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark, Gary Lee Joslyn, 41, was charged with the above offense following an incident on Oct. 10, 2013. Joslyn is accused of selling bath salts to a confidential police informant at a private residence in Towanda.

Joslyn has been sent a summons to appear before Judge Clark on July 16.

Man faces possession charge

A Towanda man was arrested by borough police recently on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark, Timothy Bailey, 34, has also been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Sgt. David Lantz of the Towanda police reported receiving information concerning Bailey's whereabouts on April 30. Because there is an active warrant for Bailey's arrest, according to the report, Lantz went to the address and discovered Bailey on the premises. In addition, the report indicated that Bailey also was in possession of a controlled substance at the time of his arrest.

Bailey has been sent a summons to appear before Judge Clark on July 2.

Man charged with simple assault

A Towanda man accused of engaging in a mutual fight with two juveniles at the Towanda Junior/Senior High School has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark.

According to papers filed in Clark's office, Jared Donald Parsons, 18, has been charged by Towanda police with simple assault; mutual consent fight; and disorderly conduct.

Towanda Patrolman John Hennessy was called to the school on May 6 to investigate the report of a fight on the premises. Hennessy was informed by school staff that Parsons had been fighting earlier with two 16-year-old male juveniles in one of the school bathrooms. Hennessy observed video footage that a security camera in the bathroom had recorded of the incident, in which Parsons was observed punching and kicking several times one of the other participants.

Parsons has been sent a summons to appear before Judge Clark on July 18.

Man cited for simple assault

A Towanda man has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark to answer a charge of simple assault.

According to information filed in Clark's office, Christopher Johnson, 24, has also been charged by Towanda police with harassment. Johnson is accused of striking and injuring Angelica Johnson during a dispute at a private residence in Towanda on June 1.

Johnson is scheduled to appear before Judge Clark on July 18.

DUI charge

The following person was charged recently in Bradford County with driving while under the influence:

Danielle Mae Overpeck, 42, of Waverly, N.Y. has also been charged with operating a vehicle without a license; crossing the center line of traffic; and careless driving. Overpeck was charged on May 18, following a traffic stop on Liberty Corners Road in Towanda Township. A blood test eventually revealed that Overpeck's blood alcohol content was .148 percent on the day of her arrest. Overpeck has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark on July 23.

DUI charges

The following people were charged recently in Bradford County with driving while under the influence:

Terry Dee Reider, 42, of Towanda, has also been charged with careless driving; and failure to use traffic signals. Reider was charged on May 18 following a traffic stop by state police on Forked Road in Monroe Township. A blood test eventually revealed that Reider's blood alcohol content was .167 percent on the day of his arrest. Reider has been sent a summons to appear before Judge Clark on July 23.

Cheri-Ann Harkness, 39, of Towanda, has also been charged with failure to wear her seatbelt; careless driving; and crossing the center line of traffic. Harkness was charged by state police on May 5, following a traffic stop on James Street in Sheshequin Township. A blood test eventually revealed the presence of the narcotic oxycodone in Harkness' blood stream on the day of her arrest.

Harkness has been sent a summons to appear before Judge Clark on July 2.

Joshua Charles Nemeth, 31, of Towanda has also been charged with careless driving. Nemeth was charged by Towanda police following a traffic stop on May 20 on Ward Avenue. Nemeth refused to submit to a blood test following his arrest. Nemeth has been sent a summons to appear before Judge Clark on July 16.

Guilty plea

SHAMOKIN - Gary L. Reigle II, 28, of 236 S. Coal St., Shamokin, pleaded guilty Tuesday to disorderly conduct and was ordered to pay a $300 fine plus costs and placed on supervised probation for one year.

An additional charge of public drunkenness was withdrawn.

Reigle was charged by Shamokin Patrolman William Zalinski in connection with a June 15 disturbance at his residence. Police said Reigle fell through a second-story window onto a porch roof due to his intoxicated condition and argued with police and neighbors at about 4:15 p.m.

Fugitive charged

STONINGTON - Stanley Lesnefsky, 54, of 1343 Plum Creek Road, Sunbury, was arraigned at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III for being a fugitive from justice and released on his own recognizance.

Trooper Mark Adams, who filed the charge, said Lesnefsky was wanted on a warrant issued by Gloucester County Sheriff's Office in New Jersey and another warrant issued by Camden County Probation Department for a probation violation. At 3 p.m. Tuesday, police said Lesnefsky came to the state police station at Stonington for fingerprints for a prior arrest, where it was discovered he was wanted by New Jersey authorities.

Terroristic threats

MOUNT CARMEL - Charles Allen Bortell, 55, of 434 N. Locust St., Mount Carmel, was charged by Police Chief Todd Owens with terroristic threats and disorderly conduct involving a May 9 incident at his residence.

According to a criminal complaint filed at the office of Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, Bortell called the Social Security Disability Administration in Scranton and claimed he was going to "shoot up the local school and all of the kids" because he was frustrated over getting to an appointment at the Scranton office and was upset with the "system."

Bortell was arraigned by Jones Tuesday and committed to Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury in lieu of $30,000 bail.

Drug paraphernalia

MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP - Tanner A. Hess, 19, of 229 W. Girard St., Atlas, was charged by Patrolman Kelly Campbell with possession of drug paraphernalia and public drunkenness involving a May 27 disturbance on Railroad Street under the Viaduct.

Police said Hess, who admitted to smoking Spice and taking Melatonin, was found in possession of Bugler cigarette papers that are commonly used to ingest Spice.

Police reported Hess was on probation in Columbia County. Probation officers from Columbia County took Hess into custody and transported him to Columbia County Prison in Bloomsburg.

DUI

RALPHO TOWNSHIP - Patrolman Stephen Spade charged Louise Retallack, 60, of 208 Black Bear Drive, Catawissa, with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of marijuana and a stop sign violation relating to a May 11 incident at Maple and West Center streets in Elysburg.

Dog registration violations

RALPHO TOWNSHIP - Chloe C. Wydra, 36, of 299 Ralpho Road, Elysburg, was charged by state dog warden Kristen Penn with failing to renew an annual registration for 2014, harboring a dangerous dog and failing to pay a $500 registration fee for the canine.

Wydra pleaded guilty April 17, 2013, to harboring a dangerous dog, namely a German Shepherd called "Jake," during a proceeding before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones.

Drug paraphernalia

MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP - Patrolman Kelly Campbell has charged Keifer M. Zsido, 22, of 149 W. Sixth St., Mount Carmel, with possession of drug paraphernalia and restrictions on alcoholic beverages involving a May 12 incident along Route 61.

Police said Zsido was found in possession of an open beer bottle, two unopened bottles, cigarette rolling papers, an orange pill bottle, bags containing a small amount of green and brown vegetable material and aluminum foil.
