Theft occurs in Monroeton

Someone entered a 26-year-old Monroeton woman's shed and stole her 2011 John Deere D110 riding lawn mower, police said.

The theft occurred between Oct. 28 and Nov. 28 on Shaw Boulevard, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the state police at Towanda at (570) 265-2186 or 800-4-PA-TIPS.

"Name is not required (when giving a tip), just your information," the state police said in a press release that they issued about the theft. "Up to $2,000 cash reward if your information results in an arrest."

Rome man accused of making false report to police

State police at Towanda said that Corey John Dobbins of Rome provided them with false reports about a recent motor vehicle accident that they were investigating.

Dobbins made the false reports at 6 p.m. on Dec. 22 at the state police barracks in North Towanda Township, police said.

Robbins, 38, was charged with applicable sections of the Pennsylvania Crimes Code, police said.

Equipment vandalized in Standing Stone

Two construction equipment machines were vandalized when they were left overnight on Jan. 5 at a construction site on Fisher Road in Standing Stone Township, police said.

Vehicle strikes tree in Wysox Twp.

Chauntey M. Leljedal, 51, of Ulster was uninjured when she was involved in a recent motor vehicle accident in Wysox Township, police said.

Leljedal was driving south on Shores Hill Road at 11:49 a.m. on Dec. 29 when she lost control of her 2005 Jeep Cherokee on a sharp, right-hand curve, police said.

The vehicle traveled off the east side of the roadway, struck a speed limit sign, traveled down an embankment, and struck a tree, police said.

Leljedal was traveling too fast for the snow-covered road conditions at the time of the accident, which occurred northwest of Laning Creek Road, state police at Towanda said.

Vehicle strikes utility pole in Monroe Twp.

No one was injured in a motor vehicle accident that occurred at 6:45 a.m. on Dec. 19 on U.S. Route 220 in Monroe Township, police said.

The accident occurred when a 2005 Dodge Durango operated by Travis J. Chesla of Wysox and a 2001 Ford F350 operated by Nicholas A. Beffer of Towanda were both traveling south on Route 220, police said.

For an unknown reason, Chesla's vehicle sped up and struck the rear of Beffer's vehicle, police said.

The impact caused Beffer's vehicle to travel off the road and strike a utility pole, police said.

After Beffer's vehicle was struck, a trailer that he was towing rolled over and an ATV on the trailer tumbled down the roadway, where it was struck by a northbound vehicle operated by William G. Benjamin of Monroeton, police said.

Chesla, 20, was cited for careless driving, state police at Towanda said.

Teen charged in car theft in Towanda

Michael Jordan Mason, 19, whose last known address is on Mac Road in Ulster, has been charged with theft by unlawful taking or disposition, receiving stolen property, and criminal mischief, police said.

The charges stem from a July 7 incident in which Mason and another individual stole a car from a driveway on South Main Street in Towanda Township, police said.

The vehicle was recovered on Route 17 by the Chemung County Sheriff's Office with severe damage, police said.

Mason was arrested and arraigned by Towanda Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark on Jan. 3. Mason was then sent to the Bradford County jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.

Mason waived his preliminary hearing, which was scheduled for Jan. 9 in Towanda District Court.

Mason's case has therefore been transferred to the Bradford County Court of Common Pleas, where he is scheduled to be arraigned on Feb. 11.

Police said Dylan Ward, 18, of Sayre was charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and underage consumption of alcoholic beverages.

Police said Sampson and Ward were present at a drinking party investigated by officers at about 8:20 p.m. Dec. 22 at which minors were present. Police said Sampson transported a 30-pack of beer to the residence with the intent of allowing minors to consume it. A preliminary breath test on a 17-year-old male juvenile came back positive for alcohol, police said.

Sampson and Ward are both scheduled to appear before Judge Shaw Feb. 5 for preliminary hearings.

Walker returned to the scene about 10 to 15 minutes after officers arrived, police said. Walker told police his two-year-old daughter, a passenger in the vehicle, was shaken up following the accident, so he returned to his Queen Esther Drive residence to drop her off and then returned to the scene. No injuries were reported in the accident, police said.

Walker's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 5.

Christopher Shulas, 34, of Ulster, Pa., will be sentenced in February for nine crimes committed in Ulster Township last June. Shulas pled guilty to felony trespassing. He entered "no contest" pleas to four weapons charges and terroristic threats, unlawful restraint, reckless endangering and assault by menacing. The pleas were entered after a jury had been selected for a trial for Thursday and Friday. Shulas entered "no contest" plea on eight of the charges telling the court he had no clear collection of the time in question due to use of synthetic drugs. He was able to recall entering an unoccupied seasonal home during his flight after the other offenses. His "no contest" plea acknowledged that there was enough evidence to convict him. State Trooper Michael Moser filed charges that Shulas had sawed off two shotguns and threatened his girlfriend with them. He forced her to drive him to meet other people. She escaped when she stopped for gas in Ulster. Shulas fled on foot, leaving the guns in the car. Later in the day he entered an Ulster Township house. He was apprehended at his parent's home. The felony trespass offense is punishable by a sentence of up to seven years. Each of the six first-degree misdemeanors has a five year maximum. Two second-degree misdemeanors have a maximum sentence of two years. Judge Maureen Beirne has directed that Shulas be evaluated in the custody of the Pa.. State Department of Corrections before the sentence is imposed.

Gerald B. Perry, 28, of Elmira, N.Y., was convicted by a jury of fleeing and eluding police, providing false identification and flight to avoid prosecution. Judge Maureen Beirne presented over the jury trial. Perry had been arrested on Aug. 16, after he fled during a traffic stop for a speeding violation. Perry and his passengers abandoned their vehicle after the flight. The three were seen walking north along route 220 in Ulster Township, the next morning Perry was arrested by Pa. State Police. Officers John Hennessey, David Lantz and Donald Stringham of the Towanda Borough Police Department testified as to Perry's flight and Corporal Douglas Smith of the Pa. State Police testified as to the arrest in Ulster Township. Perry will be sentenced in February. He remains in the Bradford County Correctional Facility pending sentencing.
