Theft attempt

PAXINOS - State police at Stonington are investigating what is believed to be an attempted theft from a business's storage yard Monday.

Troopers say two men were confronted and detained by the owner of LTS Plumbing and Heating Inc., Route 61, about 11:30 a.m. after attempting to load a scrap Lennox air conditioning unit into their vehicle.

The unit is valued at approximately $150, troopers say.

No further information was provided, and an investigation continues.

Crash

COAL TOWNSHIP - No one was injured in a two-vehicle accident Wednesday morning on Route 225, according to Coal Township Police.

Deputy Chief C. Williams said Christa Komara, of 1783 Pulaski Ave., Coal Township, was traveling north on Route 225, approximately two miles south of Shamokin, in her 2006 Ford Escape and attempted to make a left turn into Annabelle's Restaurant parking lot.

At the same time, Edward Katalina, of 758 Trevorton Road, Coal Township, who was traveling south on Route 225 in his 2001 Saturn, could not stop in time and collided with her vehicle, police said.

Both vehicles sustained moderate damage, and Komara was cited with a traffic violation, police said.

Mailbox damaged

A 62-year-old woman told state police at Towanda that someone damaged her mailbox, located in front of her residence in the 2700 block of Warren Center Road, between 12:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. Nov. 12 in Warren Township.

Police said nothing was taken from the property, and there was no other damage on the property or other property in the immediate area.

Woman arraigned

State police at Towanda said that Wendy Woods, 40, of Towanda, was being released from the Bradford County Correctional Facility at 11:52 p.m. Nov. 15, when the jail notified state police that she has an active arrant on her from the Waverly Village Police Department.

Police said she was processed and arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox and was incarcerated awaiting extradition.

Man charged with DUI

State police at Towanda said Torrance Chase Miller, 19, of Fort Duchesne, Utah, was taken into custody at 10:19 p.m. Nov. 15 on Hanks Road in West Burlington Township and charged with DUI and aggravated assault while DUI, following a crash.

Police said he was traveling west on Hanks Road, west of the Berwick Turnkpike, and lost control of his 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 and left the travel lane and went onto the northern berm of Hanks Road. Police said his vehicle struck a tree before coming to rest, and injuries were reported following the accident.

A 23-year-old Fort Duchesne, Utah woman was listed as a victim in the incident. Members of the Troy Fire/EMS assisted at the scene.

No one injured

No one was injured in a two-vehicle accident that occurred at 11:40 a.m. Nov. 16 on Route 6 at Route 14 in Troy Township, said state police at Towanda.

According to police, drivers involved in the accident were Carolyn M. Butler, 70, of Pine City, N.Y. and Martha L. Ostrander, 66, of Troy.

Police said Butler was stopped in the southbound lane of Route 14 at a stop sign at the intersection with Route 6, and Ostrander was traveling west on Route 6 when Butler pulled onto Route 6 and struck Ostrander's vehicle on the passenger side.

Butler pulled onto the southern shoulder of Route 6 facing east, and Ostrander's vehicle rotated clockwise and came to final rest facing northwest on the shoulder of Route 6, police said.

Police said Butler was charged with a violation of "stop signs and yield signs."

The following incidents were reported by the Petersburg Bureau of Police during the period of Nov. 15-18. Incidents are preliminary in nature and are subject to change after investigation.

- Aggravated Assault: At 2:30 p.m. Nov. 15 in 1900 block of Chuckatuck Ave. Summary: Individual said that he was involved in a verbal altercation with several males. He circled the block and as he approached them a second time one of the subjects fired several shots at him. Investigation continues.

- Burglary (Commercial): At 3:55 a.m. Nov. 16 in the 2600 block of County Drive. Summary: Subject broke front window and stole a case of beer. Invetigation continues.

- Aggravated Assault/Warrants on File: At 4 a.m. Nov. 18 in the 1000 block of Bolling St. Summary: Victim stated that subject struck her in the face knocking her down, then pointed a firearm at her and threatened to kill her. Warrants on file for Jermaine Person.

CHESTERFIELD/COLONIAL HEIGHTS - The First Community Bank at 11400 Midlothian Turnpike was robbed on Nov. 13, and the Chesterfield County/Colonial Heights Crime Solvers program wants to help solve the case.

Around 10:30 a.m. a black male with a sweatshirt hood pulled over his head walked into the bank. He immediately walked to the counter and passed one of the tellers a note demanding money. He was handed an undisclosed amount of cash. He left the bank on foot and headed in an unknown direction.

The suspect was described as being about 5 feet 6 inches tall with a thin build and a light complexion. He wore a brown, hooded sweatshirt, blue denim jeans and a grey stocking cap.

Surveillance video from the bank was collected, and images from that video can be seen at crimesolvers.net under the "Crime of the Week" link.

Tree stand removed

State police at Towanda said someone removed a Lone Wolf brand tree stand, flashlight, and spotlight from the vehicle of a 43-year-old Millerton man while it was parked in his driveway sometime between Nov. 4-5 on Whispering Pines Drive in Wells Township.

Window damaged

State police at Towanda said someone cracked a window in a storage shed owned by the Wyalusing Cemetery Association between noon Oct. 9 and 10:30 a.m. Oct. 10 on state Route 2010 in Wyalusing Township, and fled in an unknown direction by unknown means.

Man faces charges

State police at Towanda said charges will be filed in District Court 42-3-03 against Brian Russell Carey, 31, of Towanda, who is accused of being in possession of bath salts and a syringe following a traffic stop at 1:23 p.m. Nov. 5 on Burlington Turnpike in Burlington Township.

Police said it was determined that he was driving while under the influence.

Wysox man charged with aggravated assault

Cody Collins, 20, of Wysox is accused of causing severe injury to his three-month-old son, police said.

The victim suffered two subdural hematomas to the head and a fractured limb, police said.

The mistreatment occurred at various times between Oct. 20 and Nov. 9, state police at Towanda said.

Collins has been charged with aggravated assault in connection with these incidents, police said.

Collins was arrested on Nov. 19, arraigned and sent to the Bradford County jail in lieu of $10,000 bail, police said.

The victim is expected to make a full recovery, state police at Towanda said.

Theft occurs in Ridgebury Twp.

Someone entered a 23-year-old Ridgebury Township man's 2006 Kia Sorento and stole items that were inside the vehicle, police said.

The theft occurred at 8:20 a.m. Saturday while the vehicle was parked at 16850 Second St. in Ridgebury Township, police said.

Criminal mischief occurs in Dushore

A 53-year-old man reported that someone recently cut the master lock on his gate, located at 47 Briskey Way, Dushore, Sullivan County, police said.

This incident occurred between 11 a.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. Friday, according to the state police at Laporte.

Assault occurs in Forksville

A 23-year-old male suspect and two other individuals arrived at John Wertman's residence in Forksville recently and assaulted him, police said.

Wertman, 48, was assaulted outside his residence, located on Sock View Road, police said.

The assault occurred at 2 a.m. Thursday, state police said.

Towanda resident accused of shoplifting

Brandon L. Ostrander, 20, of Towanda has been charged with retail theft after he shoplifted merchandise from the Kmart department store in Wysox Township, police said.

The theft occurred on Nov. 8, state police at Towanda said.

Vandalism occurs at Wyalusing Twp. construction site

A construction vehicle was damaged while it was left unattended at a construction site on Latini Road in Wyalusing Township, police said.

The vehicle's windshield was destroyed, as were its four front headlamps, state police said.

The vandalism occurred between 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 15 and 8 a.m. on Nov. 16, police said.

The following person was recently charged with driving while under the influence in Bradford County:

Dylan Joseph Robbins, 20, of Laceyville, by the state police, on April 25 at the intersection of state routes 706 and 409 in Wyalusing Township. The results of a blood test indicated that Robbins' blood tested positive for a stimulant called Alpha-PVP.

Scattering rubbish

COAL TOWNSHIP - Jamie Kemper, 22; Brent Tomcavage, 33, and Christopher Pielacha, 26, all of 44 S. Fourth St., Shamokin, were cited by Patrolman Chris Lapotsky for scattering rubbish for allegedly placing several bags of household trash in a wooded area behind Coal Run between Sept. 21 and Nov. 3.

Retail theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - Patricia Zimmerman, 21, of 129 S. Franklin St., Shamokin, and Renee Holmes, 23, of 239 W. Walnut St., Shamokin, were charged by Patrolman Christopher Lapotsky with retail theft involving an incident at 2:30 a.m. Sept. 10 at Wal-Mart Supercenter on Route 61.

Police reported Zimmerman is accused of taking a PC laptop computer valued at $278 to Holmes, who was a cashier at the store at the time. Holmes allegedly voided the transaction before Zimmerman left the store with the computer.

Liquor law violations

MOUNT CARMEL - The Sons of Poland Beneficial Society, 21 N. Oak St., Mount Carmel, was cited Nov. 21 by the Pennsylvania Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement for allowing patrons to possess and/or remove liquor or alcohol from the premises after 2:30 a.m. and failing to require patrons to leave the establishment within a half hour of closing.

Police said the charges relate to a Sept. 30 incident.

Twins cited

SHAMOKIN - Mary E. Johnson, 19, of Fredericksburg, and her twin sister, Sara A. Johnson, of 102 Birch St., Shamokin, were cited by Patrolman Raymond Siko II for public drunkenness relating to an incident at 1:05 a.m. Friday in the first block of Gold Street.

Retail theft

SHAMOKIN - Elizabeth Chapman, 60, of 1552 W. Nelson St., Coal Township, was cited by Patrolman William Zalinski for retail theft for allegedly stealing $43.72 in merchandise from the Dollar General store, 30 E. Independence St., on Nov. 11.

Disorderly conduct

SHAMOKIN - John Wilcox, 68, of 9 N. Marshall St., Shamokin, and Ryan Wagner, 34, of 325 S. Shamokin St., Shamokin, were cited by Cpl. Darwin Tobias III for disorderly conduct and harassment relating to a fight at 2:43 a.m. Nov. 14 at Turkey Hill Minit Market, 140 W. Lincoln St.

Simple assault

SHAMOKIN - Kevin Eric Eltringham, 29, of 32 N. Anthracite St., Shamokin, was arraigned at 10:15 a.m. Thursday by on-call Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III on charges of simple assault, harassment, public drunkenness, disorderly conduct and loitering and prowling at night.

The charges were filed by Patrolman Jarrod Scandle in connection with a disturbance that began at about 2 a.m. Thursday.

According to a criminal complaint, Eltringham is accused of shoving Kinda Yost out of a door at 32 N. Anthracite St., causing her to fall onto a sidewalk and hit her head. Police said Yost suffered excessive bleeding from the back of her head that required her to be transported by AREA Services Ambulance to Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital.

Eltringham also allegedly shoved Angel Sock to the ground inside 32 N. Anthracite St. and was observed running through several yards in the neighborhood before being apprehended by police in a yard in the first block of North Eighth Street.

Eltringham was committed to Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury in lieu of $15,000 cash bail.

Recklessly endangering

SHAMOKIN - Timothy A. Raab, 24, of 112 Short St., Ranshaw, has been charged by Patrolman Raymond Siko II with recklessly endangering another person, simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment relating to a disturbance at 129 S. Franklin St. Thanksgiving afternoon.

Police reported Raab went to the South Franklin Street home at about 12:30 p.m. in an attempt to remove his 1-year-old daughter, who was in the care of her grandmother, Catherine Barrett, 79, of 129 S. Franklin St. Barrett told police Raab pushed her in an attempt to enter the home. Barrett told police she picked up the child and ran outside.

Police said Barrett then attempted to get into her car, but Raab allegedly chased her, pushed her against the vehicle while she was holding the child, grabbed the infant around her chest and pulled her from Barrett's arms.

Police said Raab allegedly shoved Barrett to the ground, causing her to fall onto her right side and suffer injuries to her right leg and right arm.

Raab then fled the scene with the child before being apprehended by Coal Township police about 30 minutes later at his residence.

He was committed to Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury in lieu of $7,500 cash bail.

Burglary

RUSH TOWNSHIP - State police at Stonington continue to investigate a burglary over the weekend at the Twin Ponds Engine Service, Elysburg Road.

Police said someone entered the business between 3 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Monday by breaking a window and removed numerous items from the building.

Money stolen

LEWISBURG - State police at Milton reported someone stole $80 from a purse owned by Susan Eppenbach, 56, of New Columbia, from the victim's office at Evangelical Community Hospital shortly before 10:30 a.m. Friday.

SUV catches fire

DERRY TOWNSHIP - Two Danville men escaped serious injury Friday afternoon when a sport utility vehicle in which they were riding traveled off Fossil Run Road, rolled onto its driver's side and caught fire in this Montour County township.

State police at Milton said Ryan N. Ferguson, 27, was driving a 1996 Ford Explorer west at 2:44 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a left curve and struck an open culvert. The vehicle rolled onto its driver's side and caught fire.

Ferguson, who was not wearing a seat belt, escaped injury. He was cited for failure to drive in a single lane.

Ferguson's passenger, Shane A. Mordan, 35, who also was not wearing a seat belt, suffered a minor injury.

Crash

MILTON - A New Jersey man suffered what state troopers described as a minor injury in a crash on Interstate 80 Monday afternoon in Turbot Township.

Freddy Jimenez, 19, of Passaic, N.J., was driving a 2001 Honda Civic east about 3:40 p.m. when he lost control while rounding a curve, causing the vehicle to spin out and strike an embankment before rolling several times before coming to rest on its roof.

Jimenez was treated at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, state police at Milton said.

Child seat inspection

STONINGTON - Pennsylvania State Police troopers from the Stonington Barracks will be conducting inspections and installations of child car seats from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the barracks, 2465 Route 61.

A certified child passenger technician will also be available for questions and concerns. Interested persons should bring their seat, owner's manual and the vehicle the seat will be installed in.

Driver escapes injury in crash

UPPER AUGUSTA TOWNSHIP - Tricia R. Beachel, 24, of Shamokin, escaped injury Tuesday morning in a one-car crash along Route 61 near Carroll Road in this Northumberland County township.

State police at Stonington reported Beachel was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier north on Route 61 at 7:51 a.m. when she lost control of her car on the slippery highway, causing the auto to exit the road, hit a ditch and roll over before coming to rest.

Police said Beachel, who was wearing a seat belt, was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.

DUI

MOUNT CARMEL - Shane J. Geary, 28, of 129 Oak Lane, Shady Acres, was charged by Patrolman Kevin Katch with driving under the influence of alcohol and careless driving relating to a Sept. 19 accident in the 100 block of West Sixth Street.

Police said Geary refused to submit to a blood test.

DUI offenses

RALPHO TOWNSHIP - Richard A. Gallinot, 59, of Box 258, Elysburg RR 1, was charged by Patrolman Christopher Grow with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, careless driving and driving an unregistered vehicle.

The charges relate to a Sept. 7 accident at 27 S. Hickory St., Elysburg.

Police reported Gallinot had a blood-alcohol content of .194 percent.

DUI charges

MOUNT CARMEL - Anthony R. Snyder, 27, of 420 E. Fourth St., Mount Carmel, has been charged by Patrolman Shane Reamer with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, careless driving and driving the wrong way on a one-way street.

The charges relate to an Oct. 13 traffic stop in the first block of North Oak Street.

Snyder had a blood-alcohol content of .142 percent, police said.

Driving under suspension

KULPMONT - Michael F. Dallazia, 58, of 560 E. Melrose St., Marion Heights, has been charged by Police Chief Richard Wilson III with driving under suspension while being a habitual offender, driving under suspension, driving an unregistered vehicle, unauthorized use or transfer of registration, driving without insurance, operating a vehicle without proper inspection, violations concerning licenses exhibit suspended, a seat belt violation and driving without a license.

The charges were filed in connection with a Nov. 17 incident in the 700 block of Ash Street.

Stalking

MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP - Derek C. Kranzel, 22, of 320 N. Oak St., Mount Carmel, has been charged by Patrolman Kelly Campbell with two counts of stalking and one count of harassment involving a Nov. 3 disturbance at 1201 Wood St. near Kulpmont.

Police said Kranzel is accused of sending threatening and harassing messages to Kelsey Resendes.

Theft charges

MOUNT CARMEL - Charges of theft, receiving stolen property and possession of a controlled substance were filed by Patrolman Kevin Katch against Brenda Lee Spicer, 46, of 557 W. Girard St., Atlas.

Spicer is accused of stealing a prescription for a pain killer from Mary A. Smith, of 250 S. Poplar St., Apt. 7, Mount Carmel, on Sept. 22.

Man charged with theft

State police at Towanda said that William R. Trindle, Jr., 34, of Troy, was charged with retail theft in Magisterial District Court 42-3-01 after he pumped $20 of gas into his pickup truck at 5:07 p.m. Nov. 19 at Woody's Country Store in Gillett, and drove off without paying for it.

Storage units burglarized

State police at Towanda said they are investigating a burglary of several storage units Nov. 10 at DiMichele Storage on Route 6 in Tuscarora Township.

According to police, a Hobart MIG welder was removed from one of the units.

Fugitive charged

State police at Towanda said that a fugitive from justice, Brian Ian Williams, 34, of Warren Center, who was being held at the Bradford County Correctional Facility in West Burlington Township on unrelated charges, was charged Oct. 29 with one count of arrest prior to requisition and was provided a preliminary arraignment before District Court 42-3-01.

Police said he was remanded to jail in lieu of $45,000 straight bail, pending further court action and his extradition to New York.

According to police, Williams was wanted in Tioga County, N.Y. by the New York State Police at Owego regarding an active bench warrant for assault of the third degree. Police said the bench warrant was issued by the Nichols Town Court on Aug. 7.

TAYLOR POLICE: Officers responded to more than 80 calls between Nov. 12-18.

On Nov. 12, officers were dispatched to Walmart for a retail theft. They were also dispatched to the 100 block of Jefferson Street to assist Emergency Medical Services with a medical emergency as well as to Sandone Tire for an alarm.

On Nov. 13, officers were dispatched to 113 Longview Drive for criminal mischief. They were also dispatched to the Walmart for a retail theft and to the Kane Distribution Center in the Stauffer Industrial Park for an alarm.

On Nov. 14, officers responded to a call regarding a protection from abuse violation on 110 Middle Street. They also responded to a truck accident on the 200 block of Oak Street and to the 100 block of South Washington Street for the illegal sale of narcotics.

On Nov. 15, officers were dispatched to 122 Rinaldi Drive for a disorderly female causing a problem. They were also dispatched to 207 West Taylor Street for a trespassing complaint and to the 500 block of North Main Avenue for a motor vehicle accident.

On Nov. 16, officers responded to a call from Green Ridge Street in Scranton for the illegal sale of narcotics. They were also dispatched to the 1100 block of Reynolds Avenue for a motor vehicle accident and to 47 Rockledge Terrace for a neighbor dispute.

On Nov. 17, officers were dispatched to 312 Church Street for a domestic dispute. They were also dispatched to the Walmart for a call regarding a suspicious person in the parking lot and to 155 S. Keyser Avenue for a suspicious person.

On Nov. 18, officers were dispatched to 715 Union Street for an intoxicated male caught loitering and prowling around homes and back yards as well as to 410 Center Street for assault and criminal mischief.

Taylor police officers also responded to more than 80 calls between Nov. 19-25.

On Nov. 19, officers were dispatched to 6 S. Keyser Avenue for a water main break. They were also dispatched to Sandone Tire for a burglary that occurred overnight and to 469 N. Main Street for criminal mischief to an automobile.

On Nov. 20, officers responded to a call for a retail theft at the Walmart and to the Price Chopper regarding a disorderly male resisting arrest. They were also dispatched to West Scranton High School to serve a felony arrest warrant.

On Nov. 21, officers were dispatched to Walmart for a retail theft. They also responded to a call from 27 Kennedy Blvd. for trespassing and to 98 Longview Drive for property theft.

On Nov. 22, officers were dispatched to 999 S. Keyser Avenue for criminal mischief. They also responded to a call from Joe's Kwik Mart for a suspicious male hanging around the lot and to 1008 Sampson Street for a child custody dispute.

On Nov. 23, officers responded to a retail theft call from the Walmart and to 1123 R. Loomis Avenue for criminal mischief. They also responded to a call from 469 N. Main Street for a property dispute.

On Nov. 24, officers responded to 1121 Loomis Avenue for criminal mischief and to Walmart for a male soliciting on the property. They also responded to a traffic light problem on the 1500 block of S. Main Avenue.

On Nov. 25, officers responded to a domestic dispute on 220 N. Main Street and to a retail theft at the Walmart. They also responded to a call from 5 Little League Blvd. for an intoxicated male causing a problem.
