Jeffery was transported by AREA Services Ambulance to Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital, where she underwent emergency room treatment for her injuries.

Warner was arraigned at 10 a.m. Thursday by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III and released on $5,000 unsecured bail.

Man assaults mother

SHAMOKIN - Alan W. Swank, 37, of 727 Bear Valley Ave., Shamokin, was arraigned late Wednesday afternoon by Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones on criminal charges after allegedly assaulting his mother.

According to a criminal complaint filed by Shamokin Patrolman Shane Mowery, Swank is accused of punching and kicking his mother, Barbara Swank, 56, in the face and head while she was cooking at the stove inside their home shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday. Mowery reported Swank also kicked his mother in the head and face after she was knocked to the ground.

Barbara Swank suffered contusions over both of her eyes and another contusion in the middle of her forehead. She was transported by AREA Services Ambulance to Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital, where she was treated in the emergency room before being released.

Alan Swank, who turned himself over to police when they arrived at the scene, was charged with simple assault and harassment. He was committed by Jones to Northumberland County Prison in lieu of $25,000 cash bail, but was released Thursday afternoon after posting bail. He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing March 12 before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III.

Mom in headlock

MOUNT CARMEL - A 21-year-old borough man is accused of putting the mother of a 15-year-old boy in a headlock Dec. 29 when she threatened to report her son for underage drinking.

The woman told police she returned to her South Walnut Street home after babysitting to find the kitchen in disarray and a opened bottle of whisky. After confronting her son and threatening to call a mental health crisis hotline, the woman alleges Keifer Zsido, of 149 W. Sixth St., who was in the home with the teen, put her in a headlock, according to a criminal complaint. She says she broke free and called 911.

Patrolman Matthew Dillman charged Zsido with misdemeanors of corruption of minors and simple assault as well as summary harassment. He is free on $5,000 unsecure bail and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Wednesday before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, Mount Carmel.

Stolen checks

MOUNT CARMEL - A borough man is accused of forging four checks totaling $1,300 that he allegedly stole from another man in December while he was helping around the man's house.

John David Gilbert, 45, of 422 N. Maple St., is accused of stealing the checks Dec. 18 from Robert Thurner, who reported the alleged theft Jan. 10, when he noticed money missing from his bank account.

Copies of the checks provided to police show them made out in Thurner's name to Gilbert, and video surveillance from Union National Bank, Mount Carmel, on four separate occasions over a two-week period allegedly shows Gilbert cashing the checks, according to a criminal complaint.

Thurner denied writing the checks to Gilbert, and Gilbert failed twice to meet police for arranged meetings to discuss the allegations, police said.

Patrolman William Adamski charged Gilbert with four felony counts of forgery and one misdemeanor count each of theft and receiving stolen property. He waived the charges to county court during a preliminary hearing Wednesday before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, Mount Carmel, and was recommitted to Northumberland County Prison, Sunbury, in lieu of $25,000 bail.
