Man charged with forgery in Towanda area
Joshua Ryan Custer, 24 of Fort Worth, Texas is accused of stealing two blank checks in Monroe Township and then forging them, police said.
Custer cashed one of the checks, which was made out to himself in the amount of $950, on May 7 at the Citizen & Northern Bank's Monroeton branch, police said.
Custer also tried to cash the other check, which was made out to himself in the amount of $450, at the bank's Wysox branch, police said.
Custer stole the checks from Richard Corlis Lines of Monroe Township, state police at Towanda said.
Custer has been charged with forgery and theft by unlawful taking or disposition, state police said.
Custer was arraigned by Towanda Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark on March 24. Custer was then sent to the Bradford County jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
Custer must attend a preliminary hearing before Judge Clark on Wednesday.
Ulster man charged with possession of marijuana
Barry Lee Ford, 49, of Ulster has been charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana for personal use, driving under the influence of a controlled substance, and fleeing the scene of an accident, police said.
The charges stem from a Nov. 13 incident in which Ford's vehicle struck a utility pole and a mailbox on Ulster Road in Ulster Township, police said.
State police said they saw, in plain view, a marijuana cigarette in an ashtray in the center console of Ford's vehicle.
A blood test showed there was 11 ng/ml of Delta 9 THC in Ford's blood on the day of his arrest.
Ford has been sent a summons which orders him to appear for a preliminary hearing on April 19 before Towanda Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark.
Man charged with simple assault
A Monroeton man has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark to answer a charge of simple assault.
According to information filed in Clark's office, Kendall Madonna, 41, was charged by state police with the above offense for an incident that occurred at a private residence in Franklin Township on June 30, 2012.
State police Trooper David Pelachick reported that Madonna is accused of striking and injuring a 15-year-old girl during an altercation.
Madonna is scheduled to appear before Judge Clark on April 17.
Man accused of possession
A Waverly, N.Y. man was recently cited by state police on a charge of possession of an illegal substance.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark, David Anthony Soprano, 50, of 544 Clark St., has also been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
State police Trooper Brandon Allis reported stopping a vehicle operated by Soprano on Feb. 19 on U.S. Route 220 in Towanda Township. During the stop, Allis said, he observed inside the vehicle gas/metal smoking pipes, razor blades, a metal spoon with residue, and other items commonly associated with drug use. These items were seized, along with a white powdery substance that later tested positive as bath salts, Allis said.
Soprano has been sent a summons to appear before Judge Clark on April 24.
Two charged with illegal use
Two men were arrested by state police recently on a charge of illegal use of certain solvents and noxious substances.
According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark, Brandon Warren Luckman, 24, of 3630 Covered Bridge Rd., Towanda, and Damien James Kirkey, 21, of 272A Austinville Rd., Troy were cited for the above offense on March 11. State police Trooper Frank Naughton reported being dispatched to a one-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. Route 220 and Covered Bridge Road in Ulster Township. When he arrived, Naughton said, he spoke to Luckman, who was the driver of the vehicle, who said he had fallen asleep and crashed.
While speaking to Luckman, Naughton continued, he observed two cans of Duster Spray in the vehicle. Naughton said Luckman admitted to inhaling the Duster Spray, about one hour prior to the crash. Luckman told him that Kirkey had purchased the Duster Spray, the trooper said. Kirkey also admitted to inhaling the Duster Spray prior to the crash, Naughton reported.
Luckman and Kirkey are scheduled to appear before Judge Clark for their preliminary hearings on May 8.
Man cited for defiant trespass
A Towanda man has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark to answer a charge of defiant trespass.
According to information filed in Clark's office, Lloyd Edward Walters, 32, of 618 Second St., Towanda, was charged by borough police with the above offense on March 7.
Patrolman Josh Lake reported being contacted by Julius King around 2:15 p.m., who informed him that someone was inside his residence at 619 Second St. When he arrived, Lake said, he spoke with King who informed him that the intruder had gone back into 618 Second St., saying "He went back to his house, it's Lloyd Walters."
When he spoke to Walters, Lake said, Walters informed him that the landlord of 618 Second St. had given him permission to clean out the residence because the tenants were moving. However, when he contacted the landlord, Lake continued, he was told that Walters had not been given permission to enter the property.
Walters is scheduled to appear before Judge Clark on April 26.
Two charged with assault
Two people were cited by Towanda police recently, following an altercation in front of Finlan's Tavern on Main Street in Towanda.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark, Darryl Dewayne Hankins, 27, of 216 Shaw Blvd., Monroeton and Patrick R. O'Keefe, 24, of 610 Third St., Towanda, have each been charged with simple assault - mutual consent fight, and disorderly conduct - engage in fighting.
Townada Patrolman John Hennessy reported being on patrol around 12:20 a.m. on March 16, when he observed a fight in progress in front of Finlan's Tavern at 203 Main St., Hennessy said he saw a black male sitting on top of a white male, with the black man screaming at the other and the two men were struggling.
Although he yelled, "stop fighting, this is the police," Hennessy said, the two men continued to struggle and he had to physically pull them apart. Hankins, the black man told him that O'Keefe, the white male, had pulled a knife and threatened him with it, Hennessy reported. Both men were handcuffed and a search of O'Keefe revealed a pocket folding knife, Hennessy said. O'Keefe said that when he left Finlan's he was assaulted by Hankins, according to the report.
Both men are scheduled to appear before Judge Clark on April 26.
DUI charges
The following people were charged recently in Bradford County with driving while under the influence:
Frederick Allan Lavely, 57, of 17 Oak Hill Rd., Rome. Lavely was also charged by Towanda police on March 17 with driving on the wrong side of the road, operating a vehicle at an unsafe speed, and careless driving, following a traffic stop on U.S. Route 6 at the Dandy Minimart in North Towanda. A blood test later revealed that Lavely blood alcohol content was .268 percent on the day of his arrest. Lavely is scheduled to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark on April 26
Alex Govanny Euceda, 22, of 427 Main St., Apt. 3, Towanda, was also charged by Towanda police with driving on the wrong side of the road, crossing the center line of traffic, and operating a vehicle without a license. Euceda was charged following a traffic stop on March 9 near the Elks Lodge on state Route 2027. A blood test eventually revealed that Euceda's blood alcohol content was .143 percent on the day of his arrest. Euceda has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark on April 26.
Robert A. Schoonover, 27, of 10 Thomas St., Towanda, has also been charged by Towanda police with careless driving, possessing an open container of an alcoholic beverage while driving a vehicle, and driving on the wrong side of the road. Schoonover was charged following a traffic stop on March 17 on Thomas Street. A blood test eventually revealed that Schoonover's blood alcohol content was .237 percent on the day of his arrest. Schoonover is scheduled to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark on April 24.
Ryan Christopher Knecht, 26, of 1271 Golden Mile Rd., Wysox, has also been charged by Towanda police with careless driving, operating a vehicle without a license, driving without insurance, operating an unregistered vehicle, driving an uninspected vehicle, operating a vehicle without lights, and possessing an open container of an alcoholic beverage in a moving vehicle.
Knecht was charged following a traffic stop on Feb. 24 at the Progress Plaza parking lot. A blood test eventually revealed that Knecht's blood alcohol content was .188 percent on the day of his arrest. Knecht is scheduled to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark on April 24 for his preliminary hearing.
Collin Todd Larson, 19, of St. Cloud, Minn., was also charged by Towanda police with possessing an open container of an alcoholic beverage in a moving vehicle, parking a vehicle in the middle of a roadway, underage drinking, and careless driving.
Larson was charged following an investigation of a pickup truck parked in the southbound lane near the intersection of Main and Mean streets on March 3. A blood test eventually revealed that Larson's blood alcohol content was .143 percent on the day of his arrest. Larson has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark on April 24.
Gerald Edmond Sutton, 46, of 100 Kingsbury Ave., Towanda, has also been charged by state police with operating a vehicle when his license was suspended, driving on the wrong side of the road, failure to use his turn signals, careless driving, and failure to wear his seatbelt.
Sutton was charged following a traffic stop on Feb. 4 on U.S. Route 220 in North Towanda Township. A blood test eventually revealed the presence of Lorazepam and Lydrocodone in Sutton's blood stream, both controlled substances, on the day of his arrest. Sutton has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark on April 17.
Robert Renier Ricker, 38, of Locke Avenue, Fort Worth, Texas, by the Towanda police, on March 19, on William Street in Towanda. Ricker was also charged with giving a false report to law enforcement with intent to implicate another person, fleeing the scene of an accident, and several other violations of the state motor vehicle code. Ricker showed signs of alcohol intoxication.
Woman arrested on warrant
Waverly village police recently arrested a woman on a bench warrant.
According to information from village police, Tara J. Richart, 22, was arrested on a warrant for a charge of criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Police said Richart was arraigned in village court and sent to the Tioga County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.

Waverly village police recently arrested the following people, according to information from village police:
Ember L. Bafour, 23, of Waverly, on March 24, on charges of operating a vehicle with a suspended registration, unlicensed operation and operating a vehicle without insurance, following a vehicle stop.
Vincent E. Marrone, 56, of Sayre, on March 25, on charges of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and speeding, following a vehicle stop.
Michael T. Hayden, 23, of Van Etten, N.Y., on March 25, on charges of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operating a vehicle with a suspended registration, unlicensed operation and operating a vehicle without insurance, following a vehicle stop.
Patricia B. Hughes, 54, of Horseheads, N.Y., on March 27, on a warrant for issuing a bad check.
Woman charged with drug possession
A Towanda woman was recently arrested by Tioga County, N.Y. sheriff's deputies on a charge of criminal possession of a controlled substance.
According to information from the sheriff's department, Heather L. Shaffer, 26, was also charged with possession of a hypodermic instrument.
Police said the charges resulted from an arrest warrant issued out of Barton Town Court. Shaffer was arraigned in town court and remanded to the Tioga County Jail in lieu of $500 bail or $1,000 bond. Shaffer is scheduled to appear in court April 2.
Sayre man arrested on warrant
A Sayre man was recently arrested by Tioga County, N.Y sheriff's deputies on a warrant.
According to information from the sheriff's office, Dustin Root, 24, was arrested on a family court violation.
Root was arraigned in Barton Town Court and remanded to the Tioga County Jail in lieu of $500 bail or $500 cash, police said.
Man arrested for coin thefts
A Sayre man was recently arrested by borough police on a charge of theft by unlawful taking.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Cory M. Stillman, 19, was also charged with receiving stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police said Stillman is accused of removing over $2,000 in coins, cash and silver and gold dollar plates from a safe belonging to a relative. Police said Stillman later admitted to the relative that he had taken the items and sold some at a local store.
While at Stillman's residence, another relative handed police a hypodermic needle, rubber band, metal spoon with burnt residue and multiple small brown cotton balls belonging to Stillman, according to police.
Stillman was arraigned March 27 by Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail. Stillman's preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 2.
Motor vehicle theft reported
State police at Towanda recently investigated a theft from a motor vehicle that occurred in Ulster Township.
According to state police information, an unknown actor or actors removed a Swiss army knife from a vehicle located at a Raupers Lane residence sometime on March 22 or 23. The actor then fled in an unknown direction, police said.
Driver cited in one-car MVA
State police recently investigated a one-car motor vehicle accident in Ridgebury Township.
According to information from state police at Towanda, a 1994 Mercury Grand Marquis operated by Pamela J. Hakes, 50, of Gillett, was traveling southbound on Berwick Turnpike when Hakes lost control of the vehicle at about 4:55 p.m. March 18.
Police said the vehicle crossed into the northbound lane, exited the east shoulder and struck several stone markers, a wooden post and a cemetery grave marker before coming to rest at the edge of the cemetery.
Ridgebury Ambulance transported Hakes to Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, N.Y., for treatment of minor injuries, police said. Hakes was wearing a seatbelt at the time, police said.
Police issued Hakes a citation for speeding, police said.
