DUI charges

The following people were recently charged with driving while under the influence in Bradford County:

Nicholas Robert Preston, 24, of Wyalusing, by state police, on Sept. 24, on Cold Creek Road in Herrick Township. Preston has also been charged with careless driving. A blood alcohol test later revealed that Preston's blood alcohol content was .22 percent on the day of his arrest. Preston has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton Dec. 18 for a preliminary hearing.

Lee Anthony Derouen, 41, of New Iberia, La., by state police, on Nov. 17, on Route 220 in Athens Township. Derouen has also been charged with careless driving, failing to use low beans while approaching an oncoming vehicle and failure to wear a seatbelt. A blood alcohol test later revealed that Derouen's blood alcohol content was .226 percent on the day of his arrest. Derouen has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw Jan. 8, 2013 for a preliminary hearing.

Lindsay Allison Drake, 23, of Sayre, by Athens borough police, on Nov. 9, on South Main Street in Athens. Drake has also been charged with failing to remain at the scene of an accident resulting in damage to a vehicle or property. A blood alcohol test later revealed that Drake's blood alcohol content was .21 percent on the day of her arrest. Drake has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw Dec. 21 for a preliminary hearing.

Two arrested for petit larceny

Two people were recently arrested by Tioga County, N.Y. sheriff's deputies on charges of petit larceny.

According to information from the sheriff's office, Jeremy W. Searles Jr., 19, and Desiree N. Holdren, 26, both homeless, are accused of stealing another person's property at a location on Besemer Road in Barton. Both were arrested Nov. 24, police said.

Searles and Holdren were each issued tickets to appear Dec. 4 in Town of Barton Court.

Sayre man charged with aggravated assault

A Sayre man was recently arrested by borough police after police said he attempted to strike nurses at Robert Packer Hospital.

According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Ronald Dennis Chilson, 42, was charged with two counts each of aggravated assault, simple assault and disorderly conduct.

Police said Chilson, a patient at the hospital's emergency room, spit blood on two nurses and attempted to punch a nurse in the face.

Chilson was arraigned Nov. 25 and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bail. Chilson's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 4.

Ulster man charged with harassment

An Ulster man was recently charged with harassment by state police.

According to information from state police at Towanda, Michael Paul Sweat, 31, is accused of punching a 27-year-old male victim in the face at a Ridgebury Township residence.

Police said Sweat arrived at the Green Mountain Road residence at about 11:11 p.m. Nov. 24 and began banging on an exterior door. Police said Sweat attempted to engage the victim in a physical altercation after he answered the door and punched him in the face after being asked to leave the property. The victim did not know Sweat prior to the incident, police said.

Police investigate hit-and-run

State police at Towanda continue to investigate a two-vehicle hit-and-run motor vehicle accident in Ulster Township.

According to information from state police, an unknown vehicle driven by an unknown operator struck a 2008 Ford Taurus parked while unattended on a private driveway at Owl Lane at about 8:47 p.m. Nov. 15. The vehicle had used the driveway to turn around, police said. The vehicle then fled north on Saco Road, police said.

Anyone with information regarding the investigation is asked to contact state police at (570) 265-2186.

Man arrested for making threats

A Sayre man was recently arrested by Athens Township police and charged with two counts of terroristic threats.

According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Jon K. Graebner, 46, was also charged with two counts of simple assault.

Police said Graebner pulled a knife on a man, held it up to his neck and threatened to kill him at a Blue Spruce Lane location.

Graebner was arraigned Nov. 25 and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bail. Graebner's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 4.

Sayre man arrested

A Sayre man was recently arrested by borough police and charged with two counts of aggravated assault.

According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Sean Michael Robinson, 28, was also charged with two counts of simple assault.

Police said Robinson kicked an employee of the Robert Packer Hospital emergency room in the face and punched another in the face Nov. 21.

Robinson was arraigned Nov. 24 and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail. Robinson's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 4.

Sayre man charged with burglary

A Sayre man was recently arrested by borough police on a charge of burglary.

According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Wayne E. Roberts, 27, was also charged with criminal trespass.

Police said Roberts entered an Allison Street residence through a window without the homeowner's permission. Roberts told police he had been looking for his dog, police said.

Roberts was arraigned Nov. 23 and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. Roberts' preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 4.

Disorderly conduct charge

A Lockwood, N.Y. man was recently arrested by Athens Township police on a charge of disorderly conduct.

According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Cody Douglas Cunningham, 22, was argumentative and threatening and repeatedly used obscene language as police responded to a report of an accident between Cunningham's vehicle and that of another driver in the parking lot of Walmart on Elmira Street.

Cunningham was arraigned Nov. 22 and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $2,000 bail. Cunningham's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 4.

Wyalusing man incarcerated on hunting charges

The Pennsylvania Game Commission recently charged a Wyalusing man with unlawful killing or taking of big game.

According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton, Timothy Joseph Blood, 41, was also charged with unlawful taking or possession of game or wildlife and taking an antlerless deer without an antlerless license.

Police said Blood illegally took a doe without having a license for an antlerless deer and had three bucks in his possession, two over the one-buck limit. Police said none of the bucks were properly marked and Blood's antlered deer tag remained attached to his license.

Blood was arraigned Nov. 16 by Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $1,000 bail. Blood's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 18.

Sayre man charged

A Sayre man was recently charged with possession of drug paraphernalia by borough police.

According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Christopher E. Hammond, 46, was found with a pipe used to smoke marijuana during investigation into an unrelated incident at a Tioga Street residence.

Hammond's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 21.

Woman charged with driving without license

A Rome woman was recently charged with being involved in a motor vehicle accident resulting in injury without being properly licensed.

According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Rhonda Lynn Ham, 46, was also charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving injury, leaving the scene of an accident involving damage to an attended vehicle, driving with a suspended license, leaving the scene of an accident, failing to notify a police department of an accident involving injury and failure to use a turn signal.

Police said Ham, operating a pickup truck, made a left turn onto Route 220 from Route 199 in front of another vehicle, causing an accident Nov. 8. Ham then left the scene, police said.

An open container of beer was found in Ham's truck and there were fresh blood stains in the front seat area, police said. The driver of the other vehicle reported hand and head pain, police said.

Ham's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 21.

Sayre man charged with simple assault

A Sayre man was recently charged with simple assault by borough police.

According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Aron M. Vanderpool, 37, was also charged with harassment.

Police said Vanderpool grabbed a female victim by the neck during a Nov. 27 argument at a Sunset Street residence.

Vanderpool's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 21.

Simple assault

MOUNT CARMEL - Frederick T. Holmes, 44, of 433 W. Third St., was charged with simple assault and harassment following an incident at his residence on Nov. 2.

Borough Police Patrolman David Donkochik reported in court documents that Holmes allegedly struck his girlfriend, Britteny O'Brien, during an argument at their shared residence, causing an injury to O'Brien's lip.

He was released on $5,000 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel.

Gun stolen

SUNBURY - The Sunbury Police Department is investigating the theft of a rifle from a pick-up truck parked on South Third Street Wednesday night.

The .30-06 caliber rifle is made in England by Alpine; its serial number is P005500. It has a light brown wood stock, police said.

One injured

EXCELSIOR - One person suffered minor injuries in a one-vehicle crash at 4:08 a.m. Friday along Route 901.

Coal Township Police reported a 2000 Saturn, driven by Roseann Shannon, 34, of 302 S. Beech St., Mount Carmel and owned by Rose Shannon, of the same address, was traveling west on Route 901 when the Saturn left the roadway and traveled for a considerable distance before colliding with a guard rail.

After walking to the home of a nearby resident, Shannon was transported to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, for treatment. The Saturn was towed from the scene.

Route 901 was closed to traffic for approximately one hour.

Police were assisted at the scene by Shamokin and Mount Carmel Township Police, and personnel from the Coal Township Fire Department, including fire chiefs Russell Feese and Michael Timco. The investigation is continuing.

Man charged after accident

ELYSBURG - A Mount Carmel man faces charges following an Oct. 16 accident at the intersection of Reading Turnpike Road and Mountain Road.

Ralpho Township Police Sgt. Chris Kreisher charged Chad Howard, 31, of 338 S. Pear St., Mount Carmel, with a misdemeanor offense of accidents involving damage to an attended vehicle or property and summary offenses of operating a vehicle without financial responsibility, failure to use the required position and method of turning, failure to give information or render aid and failure to operate a vehicle with appropriate tire equipment and traction surfaces.

According to court documents, Howard allegedly left the scene of an accident, which also involved Vincent Lushinski, no address given. Police said the two agreed to exchange insurance information after the accident, but Howard left the scene instead. Lushinski followed Howard to Shamokin, where both vehicles were stopped by Shamokin City Police, according to police.

The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel, with a preliminary hearing set for Dec. 19.

Retail theft

SHAMOKIN - Joseph Witkowski, 25, of 8658 Route 61, Coal Township, was cited for retail theft by Shamokin City Police Patrolman Jarrod Scandle after allegedly stealing four packs of cigarettes, valued at $24.85, from the Turkey Hill Minit-Market, Second Street, Shamokin, at 10:36 p.m. Oct. 13.

Driver cited

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP - A Herndon woman was cited for careless driving following a one-vehicle crash at 12:19 p.m. Monday on Church Street in Washington Township, Dauphin County.

State police at Lykens report a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier, driven by Taylor L. Shingara, 18, of Herndon, was traveling south on North Church Street when it left the road, traveled through a field and struck a utility pole.

Shingara suffered a minor injury and was transported to Harrisburg Hospital by Medic 6 ambulance for treatment. Police cited her for careless driving.

Assisting police at the scene were members of the Elizabethville Fire Department.

Retail theft

SHAMOKIN - A 14-year-old Shamokin male was cited for retail theft by Shamokin City Police Patrolman Jarrod Scandle after the teen allegedly stole two packs of cigarettes, valued at $9.80, from the Turkey Hill Minit-Market on Lincoln Street, Shamokin, at 11:15 p.m. on July 24.

Two hurt

SHAMOKIN TOWNSHIP - Two drivers suffered minor injuries in a chain-reaction crash at 3:43 p.m. Thursday on Route 487 near Route 61.

State police at Stonington said a 2001 Ford Explorer, driven by Nichole N. Colyer, 32, of Shamokin, was following a 2011 GMC Sierra, driven by Roy A. Hurley, 42, of Paxinos, while both were traveling south on Route 487. The Sierra stopped behind other vehicles stopped at the intersection with Route 61. Police said Coyler failed to see the stopped Sierra and struck the back of the vehicle.

Both drivers suffered minor injuries, but refused treatment. Police cited Colyer for the crash.

Public drunkenness

SHAMOKIN - Andre A. Stone, 30, of 612 E. Commerce St., Shamokin, was cited for public drunkenness by Shamokin City Police Patrolman Jarrod Scandle after Stone was allegedly found passed out on a sidewalk at Fifth and Water streets, Shamokin, by ambulance personnel at 7 a.m. Nov. 25.

Man cited for harassment

State police at Towanda said James Robert Lewis, 65, of Springfield Township, was cited for harassment following an incident at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 1 at his residence on Big Pond Road in Springfield Township.

Police said Lewis and the victim, a 57-year-old Bath, N.Y. man, got into a verbal dispute, and Lewis threatened to shoot the victim's vehicle.

Pair accused of conspiring

State police at Towanda said that Teresa Gail Hiller, 31, of Gillett, and Darrell Lee Struble, 31, of Granville Summit, are accused of conspiring to steal a 1995 Subaru Legacy that was parked along State Route 4014 July 18 in Springfield Township.

According to police, they were taken into custody Nov. 4 at a private residence in Fassett by members of state police and Pennsylvania State Parole. Police said Struble was also wanted by state parole for being an absconder from his state parole release conditions.

Hiller misrepresented to a local salvage company that she was the rightful owner of the vehicle, had the vehicle towed from the scene by a towing company, and then was paid $200 for the vehicle, police said. Police said the vehicle was then crushed at the local salvage yard.

Police said Hiller was charged at District Court 42-3-01 with theft by unlawful taking or disposition and receiving stolen property and Struble was charged with theft by unlawful taking or disposition, receiving stolen property, and criminal conspiracy to commit theft by unlawful taking or disposition. Hiller was remanded to Bradford County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 bail and Struble was remanded to jail in lieu of $55,000 bail.

Police said a 63-year-old Columbia Cross Roads woman was the victim in the incident.

DUI charges

The following people were recently charged with driving while under the influence in Bradford County:

Shane Roy Kelley, 41, of Meshoppen, by Laceyville Borough Police, on Oct. 19, in the 200 block of Taylor Ave. (Route 706), in Wyalusing.

Kelley was also charged for having expired registration, driving 43 mph in a posted 25 mph zone, and having an expired inspection sticker.

Kelley faces a preliminary hearing at 1:15 p.m. Dec. 4 before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton of Wysox.

Man charged with retail theft

James Michael Shay, 27, of Towanda, faces a preliminary hearing at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 18 before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton of Wysox on charges of receiving stolen property and retail theft for an incident at 9 p.m. Oct. 18 at K-mart in Bradford Towne Plaza in Wysox Township, according to court papers.

The papers note that Shay is charged with the retail theft of a Kenmore portable heater valued at $189.99 and a 36-inch Craftsman Creeper worth $29.99.

One-vehicle accident occurs

State police at Towanda said that Ariel R. Dean, 20, of Granville Summit, was charged with a violation of "driving vehicle at safe speed" following a one-vehicle crash at 2:40 p.m. Oct. 27 on Bailey Corners Road in West Burlington Township.

According to police, the crash occurred as she was traveling south in the right travel lane of Bailey Corners Road, south of Route 6, at a speed that was excessive for the given road conditions because the road was wet. While attempting to negotiate a sharp left hand curve in the road, she lost control of her Ford Focus and spun in a counterclockwise direction, prior to leaving the travel lanes.

The vehicle then went down a steep embankment on the western berm of Bailey Corners Road, police said. The rear end area of the vehicle stuck a large tree, and after colliding with the tree, the vehicle came to rest facing north on the western berm of Bailey Corners Road. Police said injuries were reported.

Crash reported

State police at Towanda said a crash involving an unknown vehicle occurred at 7:30 a.m. Oct. 31 in Burlington Township.

Police said the vehicle was traveling west on Route 6 and was approaching stopped traffic, and for unknown reasons, exited the north side of the road, struck a ditch, and continued west on the north side of the road. Police said it then proceeded west, struck an embankment, went airborne and landed about 20 feet west, proceeded through another yard, and then went back onto Route 6 and left the area in a westward direction.

It's unknown if the driver was injured, police said.

Missing person is reported

State police are asking the public's help in locating a missing person from Asylum Township.

The missing person is 49-year-old Duane John Scott Jr., police said.

The last time Scott was seen was late July 2012 in the Towanda area, police said.

Scott is 5'11", 180 pounds, with blue eyes and grey hair, police said.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Scott is asked to contact the state police at Towanda at (570) 265-2186.

Vehicle travels into creek bed in Columbia Twp.

A 17-year-old Gillett girl was uninjured in a recent accident on Coryland Road in Columbia Township, in which her vehicle left the roadway and traveled down an embankment into a creek bed, police said.

The girl was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, which occurred at 7:51 a.m. Tuesday, west of state Route 14, according to the state police at Towanda.

The roadway was snow-covered and slippery at the time of the accident, police said.

Burglary reported in Wysox Twp.

A 36-year-old man reported that a burglary recently occurred at his residence at 32 Ottaviani Lane in Wysox Township, police said.

The man reported that someone entered his residence through an unlocked basement door on Nov. 21 or Nov. 22 and stole his LG flip-style pre-paid cell phone from his kitchen counter, police said.

Theft occurs in Wysox Township

Someone recently stole property belonging to a 33-year-old Dushore woman, located outside the front door of the Enterprise Rent-A-Car office in Wysox Township, police said.

The theft occurred at 11:08 a.m. Friday, state police said.

Towanda woman charged with theft

Dannielle Abbott, 27, of Towanda is accused of entering her aunt's residence in Towanda Township and stealing her uncle's checkbook and bank card, police said.

Abbott then used the checks and card to made $1,305 worth of purchases, police said.

The theft of the card and checks occurred on Sept. 20, police said.

Abbott has been charged with access device fraud, theft by unlawful taking or disposition, receiving stolen property. forgery, and entering a residence in which no one was present, state police said.

Abbott has been sent a summons which orders her to appear before Towanda Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark on Wednesday.

DUI charge

The following person was recently charged with driving under the influence in Bradford County:

Jennifer Lynn Craig, 30, of Sayre, by the state police, on Nov. 3 on U.S. Route 220 in North Towanda Township. A test showed that the amount of alcohol in Craig's blood on the day of her arrest was .21 percent.

Driver cited

KULPMONT - Michael J. Domaleski, 21, of Locust Gap, was cited by Trooper Mark Adams of state police at Stonington for careless driving relating to a three-vehicle accident early Sunday morning on Route 61 (Chestnut Street).

Police reported Domaleski was driving a 2007 Ford Fusion south on Route 61 at 3:30 a.m. when he fell asleep, causing his car to strike a parked 2006 Chrysler Town & Country van and a parked 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee along the northbound lane.

No injuries were reported.

Domaleski's car and the van were towed from the scene.

Multiple charges

WEST CHILLISQUAQUE TOWNSHIP - Theodore Bartlett Doremus, 18, of Jericho Center, Vt., and a student at Bucknell University, will be charged by state police at Milton with criminal trespass, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, underage drinking, public drunkenness and loitering and prowling at night relating to a disturbance Sunday morning at the residence of Timothy Witter, of 45 Old Route 45, Milton.

Police said Wittmer awoke at 8 a.m. and found Doremus passed out on his sofa while noticing his back door window had been broken by a vacuum cleaner that was on his back porch. Witter said he immediately called state police about the intrusion.

When state police arrived at the home, they found Witter holding a loaded shotgun while standing over Doremus, who was still passed out.

When police awoke Doremus, who was intoxicated, he didn't know where he was or how he got there. Doremus told police he was a first-semester freshman at Bucknell University and did not remember leaving a house party earlier in the morning. He also didn't recall how he lost his shoes and socks.

Doremus was released to Bucknell University officials.

FRANKLIN TWP. - State police are investigating the burglary of a house on Bodle Road and stealing items worth more than $5,800.

Someone forced their way into the home sometime between Friday and Sunday and stole numerous items, including a Sony Bravia XBR 46-inch flat-screen TV, a Husqvarna power washer, a Stihl model 360 Pro 18-inch chain saw and two Panasonic DVD/Blu-Ray players.

Anyone with information is asked to call state police at Wyoming at 570-697-2000.

WILKES-BARRE - A Brooklyn, N.Y., man is charged with intending to deliver a controlled substance after police found packaged cocaine in his possession Sunday morning.

Police responded to a report of a domestic dispute in a residence at Penn and Hillard streets at 3:45 a.m. They found Trevor Holman, 22, with a small amount of marijuana, 6.4 grams of cocaine individually packaged in 14 bags and two cell phones.

Police arrested Holman, took him to headquarters for processing, then transferred him to Luzerne County Correctional Facility to await arraignment.

WILKES-BARRE - City police responded to the following incidents:

n James Downs and Gordon Custer told police at 10:52 p.m. Saturday that someone entered their Madison Street residence and stole a Remington 12-gauge Special Edition shotgun, a safe containing various paperwork, an audio speaker, a gray Toshiba laptop computer, an Xbox and controllers and two games and a pair of gray Air Jordan sneakers.

n Someone broke into the home of a 26-year-old man on the first block of Maxwell Street sometime between 12:30 and 6:30 p.m. Saturday and took a Yamaha bass guitar valued at $200, a PlayStation 3 with paddle valued at $300; an iPod valued at $200 and a Samsung 47-inch SmartTV valued at $1,600.

Woman hurt

UPPER AUGUSTA TOWNSHIP - A Sunbury woman suffered serious injuries when a vehicle she was driving hit an embankment Sunday evening.

According to Trooper Daniel Wilk, state police at Stonington, Helen F. Sharp, 76, was driving a 2000 Ford Taurus east on Mile Post Road shortly before 7 p.m. While negotiating a right hand curve near Spruce Hollow Road, she lost control of the vehicle and drove head-on into an embankment, Wilk said.

Sharp was transported by Americus Ambulance to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, for an injury to her back, Wilk said. A hospital spokesman said Monday morning she was listed in serious condition.

She was wearing a seat belt.

Sharp will be cited, the trooper said.

Man charged with indecent assault

Daniel L. Bell, 63, of Towanda is accused of having indecent contact with four children under the age of 13, police said.

The indecent contact occurred between January 2012 and July 2012 in Towanda, police said.

As a result of these actions, Bell has been charged with indecent assault and corruption of minors, according to the Towanda police.

Bell was also charged with simple assault, because he "flicked" a boy under the age of 13 in the genitals with his hand, police said.

Bell has been sent a summons which orders him to appear for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday before Towanda Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark.

Towanda man cited for harassment

Darwin Grant Smith, 50, of Towanda was recently cited for harassment after he allegedly slapped a 56-year-old Sayre man in the head during a dispute, police said.

The incident occurred sometime between 2 p.m. and 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday in the parking lot between Grant Smith Trucking and the Comfort Inn in Wysox Township, police said.

Wysox male arrested for DUI

Todd Miekel Groover, 20, of Wysox was recently arrested for driving under the influence of marijuana on U.S. Route 6 in Towanda Borough, police said.

The arrest occurred after Groover was pulled over for a traffic violation, police said. The traffic stop occurred at 7:37 p.m. on Thursday, state police at Towanda said.

Vehicle travels into creek in Elkland Twp.

Rusty G. Cook, 30, of New Albany suffered a moderate injury in a recent motor vehicle accident on state Route 4008 in Elkland Township, Sullivan County, police said.

The accident occurred at 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 26 when Cook was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado north on Route 4008, police said.

A failure of the vehicle's front passenger tire caused the vehicle to travel off the east side of the roadway and overturn into a creek, police said.

Cook's passenger, 23-year-old Matthew A. Roberts of New Albany was uninjured, police said. The accident occurred approximately three-tenths of a mile north of state Route 154, according to the state police at Laporte.

Man waives charges

Scott Michael Hurd, 40, with a listed address of the Bradford County Jail, has waived charges of receiving stolen property and retail theft to the Bradford County Court of Common Pleas, according to the office of Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton of Wysox.

The charges are for a June 10 incident at the K-mart Department Store at Bradford Towne Center in Wysox Township, according to court papers.

The papers note that Hurd is accused of the retail theft of a 26-inch RCA flat screen TV worth $279.99 and a 42-inch RCA flat screen TV belonging to K-mart.
