New Albany man charged with assault

Jessica Arnold of New Albany reported that her boyfriend, Derek James Doss of New Albany, shoved her and threw her to the ground twice, state police said.

Arnold, who was four months pregnant at the time, suffered a cut on her left leg and minor injuries to her elbows, police said.

The incident occurred at approximately 5 p.m. Sunday along Stevenson Hill Road in Albany Township, state police at Towanda said.

Doss, 24, has been charged with simple assault and harassment, police said.

Towanda woman charged with criminal trespass

Gyla R. Stroud, 41, of Towanda has been charged with criminal trespass, criminal mischief, and harassment, police said.

The charges stem from an incident which occurred when Stroud entered Mary and David Parker's residence on Bridge Street in Towanda and got into a heated argument with a 15-year-old girl inside the residence, police said.

Mary Parker then told Stroud several times to leave the residence, but Stroud refused, according to the police.

Mary Parker then escorted Stroud out of the residence, but Stroud forced her way back inside the residence after damaging a door to the residence, police said.

According to the Parkers, Stroud then began to repeatedly strike David Parker in his face and body, police said.

The incident occurred at 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 14, Towanda police said.

Stroud has been sent a summons which orders her to appear for a preliminary hearing on Oct. 4 in Towanda District Court.

DUI charge

The following person was recently charged with driving while under the influence in Bradford County:

- Budd William Clark, 61, of Wysox, by the Towanda police, on Aug. 2, on the Merrill Parkway in Towanda. Clark was also charged with resisting arrest, failure to stay in his lane, and careless driving. A test revealed that Clark's blood alcohol content was .275 percent on the day of his arrest.

Public drunkenness

COAL TOWNSHIP - Sherry Ann Vellner, 36, of Coal Township, was cited by police for public drunkenness for allegedly causing a disturbance with customers at the drive-thru of the McDonald's Restaurant, Route 61, and attempting to enter the building while its dining area was closed. According to police, she was found to be staggering along Route 61 while she walked to her residence. The incident occurred about 1 a.m. Thursday.

Disorderly conduct

SHAMOKIN - Joseph Miscavage IV, 19, of 128 Tharp St., Tharptown, a 17-year-old Shamokin male and his 15-year-old brother were cited by Cpl. Darwin Tobias III for disorderly conduct for causing a disturbance while allegedly going to 126 N. Eighth St. at 5:41 p.m. Tuesday to fight other people.

Breaks glass door

SHAMOKIN - Adam Kistner Jr., 28, of 904 E. Commerce St., Shamokin, was cited by Patrolman Scott Weaver for disorderly conduct for throwing a candle at a glass door, causing it to smash.

Police said the incident occurred at 8:48 p.m. Wednesday at Kistner's residence.

Burglary

COAL TOWNSHIP - The Cardinals Youth Football Booster Club's building at the Ferndale sports complex was burglarized between 12:30 p.m. Sunday and 7:15 p.m. Monday, township police said.

Approximately $120 was stolen.

Crash

COAL TOWNSHIP - No one was injured in a two-vehicle crash on Main Street near Route 61 in Ranshaw Thursday, township police said.

Travis Campbell, 24, of Shamokin, was driving a 2003 Ford Escape when he pulled from a stop sign onto Route 61 about 3:10 p.m. and struck the rear bumper of a 2012 Kia driven by Lori Kehler, 51, of Shamokin.

Police said the Kia sustained minor damage.

Theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - Joseph Manning, 32, of Bloomsburg, told police someone stole a blue Jansport backpack from his Yamaha Seca motorcycle about 10:10 p.m. Thursday while it was parked in the 1200 block of Chemung Street.

The backpack contained a purple pullover jacket, four pairs of brown gloves and $40 in cash.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 644-0333.

Truck stolen

COAL TOWNSHIP - Nathan J. Reigle, 36, of 905 W. Willow St., Coal Township, is accused by township police of stealing a dump truck earlier this month.

Police say video evidence shows Reigle abandoning a 1982 Chevrolet C 30 on Mulberry Street in Atlas on Aug. 4.

The truck was reported stolen by its owner, Allan Shoffler. It was taken between 7 p.m. Aug. 3 and 8 a.m. Aug. 4 from in front of his garage at 12 S. First St. The keys were inside the unlocked vehicle.

Reigle is charged by Patrolman Matthew Henrich with felony counts of theft and receiving stolen property.

Accident occurs in Monroe Boro

Tricia L. Wright, 24, of Towanda was recently involved in motor vehicle accident at the intersection of the Burlington Turnpike and state Route 414 in Monroe Borough, police said.

Wright, who was traveling south on the Burlington Turnpike, had stopped her 2001 Saturn SL at a stop sign at the intersection as a 2005 Dodge Neon SXXT was traveling east on Route 414, police said.

Wright then proceeded through the stop sign, but did not properly clear the intersection, and her vehicle was struck by the Dodge Neon, police said.

The drivers of both vehicles were uninjured, state police at Towanda said. However, a passenger in Wright's vehicle was transported to Memorial Hospital in Towanda to get checked out, police said.

The accident occurred on Tuesday, police said.

Wright was cited for "duties at stop signs," police said.

Burglary occurs in Wysox Twp.

A burglary has occurred at a residence in the 700 block of Leisure Drive in Wysox Township, police said.

The residence is the home of two women, ages 53 and 81, police said.

The burglar or burglars stole money that was inside the residence, police said.

State police said they don't know how the burglar or burglars entered the residence, as there is no evidence of forced entry.

The burglary occurred sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Aug. 19, state police said.

Teen arrested in Dushore burglary

Daniel D. Kraus, 18, of Dushore has been charged in a burglary on Tuesday at the PA Wine and Spirits store, 121 W. Main St., Dushore, police said.

Approximately 20 bottles of liquor were broken or stolen during the burglary and approximately $400 worth of damage was done to the business' front windows, police said.

Kraus admitted to police that he and two other males were involved in the burglary and in vandalism to a BEsT Transit bus, which was parked near the liquor store, according to the state police at Laporte.

Windows of the bus were smashed out, causing approximately $500 worth of damage, police said.

Kraus was charged with burglary, criminal trespass, conspiracy to commit burglary, theft by unlawful taking or disposition, receiving stolen property, and criminal mischief, court records show.

Kraus was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Jennifer Vandine, and then sent to the Columbia County jail in lieu of $5,000 bail.

Charges are pending against the other two actors, police said.

The burglary occurred at approximately 3:48 a.m. on Tuesday, police said.

DUI charge

The following person was recently charged with driving while under the influence in Bradford County:

Jaime Michael Sutryk, 42, of Sayre, by Athens Township police, on July 26, on Shuman Hill Road in Sayre. Sutryk has also been charged with failure to keep right. A blood alcohol test revealed that Sutryk's blood alcohol content was .24 percent on the day of his arrest. Sutryk has been sent a summons to appear Oct. 8 before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw for a preliminary hearing.

Officers arrest three on drug charges

Waverly village police recently arrested three people following investigation into drug activity at a Broad Street residence.

According to information from village police, Shannon Kellam, 36, and Nicole Chandler, 22, both of Waverly, and Corey Strope, 35, of Sayre, were each charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of hypodermic needles and criminal use of drug paraphernalia. Police said the three were found to be in possession of bath salts.

Waverly police were assisted by the Chemung County, N.Y. Sheriff's Department and New York State Police Troop E, police said.

Sayre woman arrested

A Sayre woman was recently arrested by Athens Borough police on a charge of theft by unlawful taking.

According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Grace Marie Kraft, 24, was also charged with receiving stolen property.

Police said Kraft removed a television, personal checks and about $430 in currency from a Cherry Street residence.

Kraft was arraigned Aug. 27 and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $500 bail. Kraft's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 3.

Checks stolen

State police at Towanda recently investigated a theft from an Ulster Township victim.

According to state police information, Nicholas Scott Campbell, 29, of Chemung, N.Y., is accused of stealing two blank checks from a victim at a Route 220 location and cashing one at a local bank in the amount of $300. The theft occurred on July 8, police said.

Man arrested on warrant

State police recently arrested a Sayre man on a warrant out of New York state.

According to information from state police at Towanda, police took Lucas Richard Kinsman, 26, into custody Aug. 28 at the Bradford County Correctional Facility, where he was being held on unrelated charges. Kinsman was wanted out of the Chemung County, N.Y. Sheriff's Office for a probation violation stemming from a 2012 grand larceny conviction, police said.

Police charged Kinsman with one count of arrest prior to requisition and arraigned him in district court, police said. Kinsman was remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $65,000 straight bail pending further court action and his extradition to New York, police said.

Driver cited in Sheshequin Twp. crash

State police at Towanda recently investigated a one-car motor vehicle accident in Sheshequin Township.

According to state police information, at about 9:30 p.m. Aug. 16, a 2002 Ford Windstar operated by Michael R. Weichert, 37, of Roslyn, Pa., lost control while traveling downhill and negotiating a right curve on Wood Run Road. The vehicle exited the roadway and traveled downhill through a pasture fence, rolling over and coming to final rest on its wheels, police said.

Weichert fled the scene following the accident and was cited for speeding, police said.

Woman charged with theft

A Waverly woman was recently charged with theft by unlawful taking by Sayre Borough police.

According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Vanessa M. Laureano, 26, was also charged with receiving stolen property.

Police said Laureano, an employee at the KFC/Taco Bell restaurant on North Keystone Avenue at the time of the Aug. 16 incident, removed $300 to $400 from a patron's wallet. Police said Laureano then used the money to purchase a debit card at a local store, then used the card to buy video games.

Laureano's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 8.

Bradford County District Attorney Daniel J. Barrett announced that the following persons recently entered guilty pleas in the Bradford County Court of Common Pleas, Towanda:

Rance Soule, 55, a resident of the state of Florida, entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Aggravated Indecent Assault involving a minor; he is scheduled for sentencing in October. Trooper Miranda Musick of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Soule for the offense following investigation of an incident that occurred in South Creek Township.

Brian T. Hanna, 38, Montoursville, Pa., entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol; he will be sentenced following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Officer Richard Horton of the Athens Township Police Department arrested Hanna for the offense in March 2013.

Ellen Johnson, 48, Sayre, Pa., entered a plea of guilty to the offenses of Delivery of a Controlled Substance and Possession of a Controlled Substance; she will be sentenced on Sept. 5, 2013. Agents of the Pennsylvania State Police Vice and Narcotics Unit arrested Johnson for the offenses in December 2012 following investigation of an incident that occurred in Towanda Borough.

Sadie D. Wilcox, 21, Troy, Pa., entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Theft By Unlawful Taking; she will be sentenced following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Trooper Nathan Lewis of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Wilcox for the offense following investigation of an incident that occurred in Towanda Township.

Wendy Sue Garner, 32, Towanda, Pa., entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Harassment and was sentenced to probation for a term of 90 days and a fine of $100. Trooper George Layou of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Garner for the offense following investigation of an incident that occurred in Towanda Township.

Toris Garner, 37, Towanda, Pa., entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Harassment and was sentenced to probation for a term of 90 days and a fine of $100. Trooper George Layou of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Garner for the offense following investigation of an incident that occurred in Towanda Township.

David Griffith, 48, Towanda, Pa., entered pleas of guilty to the offenses of Conspiracy to Commit Insurance Fraud and Driving While Operating Privilege Suspended; he will be sentenced on Sept. 16, 2013. Officer Ryan Edsell of the Towanda Borough Police Department arrested Griffith for the offenses in December 2012.

Dale Louis Yates, 43, New Albany, Pa., entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol; he will be sentenced on Sept. 12, 2013. Trooper Michael Trebendis of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Yates for the offense following investigation of an incident that occurred in Towanda Township.

Shon Saxon, 19, Wysox, Pa., entered pleas of guilty to the offenses of Theft By Unlawful Taking and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia; he will be sentenced on Sept. 5, 2013. Troopers James Dughi and Matthew Grebeck of the Pennsylvania State Police, respectively, arrested Saxon for the offenses following investigation of incidents that occurred in North Towanda and Orwell Townships.

Robert Porter, 21, Sayre, Pa., entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Theft by Deception and was sentenced to probation for a term of one year. Trooper Jeffrey Creedon of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Porter for the offense following investigation of an incident that occurred in Athens Township.

Karen Stevens, 30, Ulster, Pa., entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Possession of MDPV (Bath Salts) and was sentenced to imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility for a term of six months and a fine of $100. Trooper David Pelachick of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Stevens for the offense following investigation of an incident that occurred in Ulster Township.

Tiffany Rose, 24, Athens, Pa., entered pleas of guilty to the offenses of Retail Theft and Access Device Fraud; she will be sentenced on September 5. Officer John Fedorchak of the Athens Township Police Department and Trooper Jeffrey Sredenschek of the Pennsylvania State Police, respectively, arrested Rose for the offenses in May 2013 and July 2012.

Scott Cron, 27, Wysox, Pa., entered pleas of guilty to the offenses of Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Tampering with Evidence; he will be sentenced on Sept. 5, 2013. Wildlife Conservation Officer Jeffrey Oleniacz of the Pennsylvania Game Commission arrested Cron for the offenses in April 2013 following incidents that occurred in Leroy and Wysox Townships.

Ryan Allis, 19, Towanda, Pa., entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Theft by Unlawful Taking; he was sentenced on Aug. 29, 2013. Trooper Joshua Fisher of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Allis following investigation of an incident that occurred in Wysox Township in June 2012.

Bradford County District Attorney Daniel J. Barrett announced that the following persons were recently sentenced in the Bradford County Court of Common Pleas, Towanda:

Benjamin Hiley, 35, Athens, Pa., was sentenced to probation for a total term of six months, and a fine of $150, for the offenses of Criminal Trespass and Public Drunkenness. Officer Cody Welch of the Athens Borough Police Department arrested Hiley for the offense in March 2013.

Karen G. Novotny, 49, Athens, Pa., was sentenced to imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility for a term of 10 days, a consecutive 18 month term of probation, and fines totaling $1000, for the offenses of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Heroin), and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Officer Derek Dekar of the Athens Borough Police Department arrested Novotny for the offenses in August 2012.

Sadie Wilcox, 21, Troy, Pa., was sentenced to County Intermediate Punishment, with a total term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility of from two months and 158 days to 18 months and 180 days, for the offenses of Defiant Trespass and Theft By Unlawful Taking. Troopers John Youngblood and Nate Lewis of the Pennsylvania State Police, respectively, arrested Wilcox for the offenses following investigation of incidents that occurred in Troy Borough and Towanda Township..

Ashly Hamilton, 21, Elmira, N.Y., was sentenced to probation for a term of one year, and a fine if $200, for the offense of Possession of a Controlled Substance; Hamilton will also lose her Pennsylvania driving privilege for six months. Officer Derek Watkins of the Sayre Borough Police Department arrested Hamilton for the offense in September 2011.

Jean Lane, 40, Towanda, Pa., was sentenced to probation for a term of 15 months for the offense of Default in Required Appearance. Deputy David Bush of the Bradford County Sheriff's Department arrested Lane for the offense in February 2013.

Rebecca Carson, 37, Wellsboro, Pa., was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility of from 72 hours to six months, and a fine of $1000, for the offense of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. Carson will also lose her Pennsylvania driving privilege for 12 months. Trooper Nathan Lewis of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Larson for the offense following investigation of an incident that occurred in Columbia Township.

Christopher Toth, 47, was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility of from six months to 12 months for the offense of Theft By Unlawful Taking. Toth was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $310. Kent Reynolds, 47, Rome, Pa., was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility of from five days to six months, and a fine of $1000, for the offense of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. Reynolds will also lose his Pennsylvania driving privilege for 12 months with an additional 12 months for refusal to submit to blood testing at the time of arrest. Officer Bryan Bellows of the Towanda Borough Police Department arrested Reynolds for the offense in March 2013.

Christina Paris, 22, Wyalusing, Pa., was sentenced to probation for a term of 21 months, and a fine of $250, for the offenses of Possession of Controlled Substances (MDPV-Bath Salts) and Use of False Identification. William H. Shawn Palmer, 21, Waverly, N.Y., was resentenced, following revocation of his original sentence of probation for violation of probation conditions, to probation for a term of 23 and one-half months, and a fine of $250, for the offense of Theft By Unlawful Taking. Officer Eric Keir of the Sayre Borough Police Department arrested Palmer for the offense in 2009.

David D. Collins, 51, Susquehanna, Pa., was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility of from three months to 23 months, and a fine of $1000, for the offense of Invasion of Privacy by Videotaping. Pardoe, 39, Dushore, Pa., charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol in March 2013 by Officer John Hennessy of the Towanda Borough Police Department, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of 12 months. While on probation, Pardoe will be subject to supervision, which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, Pardoe must perform community service with the DUI Litter Brigade and attend a Victim Impact Panel as conditions of ARD placement; she will also lose her Pennsylvania driving privilege for 30 days.

Penny Wells, 43, Sayre, Pa., charged with the offense of Welfare Fraud, in 2011 by, Deputy Alexis Goldman, Office of the Pennsylvania Inspector General's Office, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of 23 months. While on probation, Wells will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department, which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, Wells must perform 40 hours of community service and pay restitution of $9,431.77 as conditions of ARD placement.

Stephanie Parker, 28, Monroeton, Pa., charged with the offense of False Report to Law Enforcement Authorities by Trooper David Pelachick of the Pennsylvania State Police, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of six months. While on probation, Parker will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department, which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, Parker must perform 40 hours of community service as a condition of ARD placement.

Ian Kelley, 21, Elmira, N.Y., charged with the offenses of Possession of Marijuana and Simple Assault in March 2013 by the Athens and Sayre Borough Police Departments, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of 12 months. While on probation Kelley will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department, which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, Kelley must perform 40 hours of community service as a condition of ARD placement.

Stephanie Craft, 30, Owego, N.Y., charged with the offense of Theft By Unlawful Taking by Sergeant Steven Burlingame of the Sayre Borough Police Department, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of 12 months. While on probation Craft will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department, which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use.

Alex G. Euceda, 22, Towanda, Pa., charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol in March 2013 by Officer John Hennessy of the Towanda Borough Police Department, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of 12 months. Benjamin Hiley, 35, Athens, Pa., entered a plea of nolo contendere to the offenses of Criminal Trespass and Public Drunkenness and was sentenced to probation for a term of six months and a fine of $150. Officer Cody Welch of the Athens Borough Police Department arrested Hiley for the offenses in March 2013.

Monica Ellenberger, 31, Canton, Pa., entered a plea of nolo contendere to the offenses of Receiving Stolen Property and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia; she will be sentenced on Sept. 5, 2013. Officer Joshua Heckman of the Canton Borough Police Department arrested Ellenberger for the offense in January 2013.

Thomas Bashore, 46, Sayre, Pa., entered a plea of guilty before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw to the offenses of Loitering and Prowling at Night, Disorderly Conduct, and Public Drunkenness; as sentence thereon he was ordered to serve 10 days in the Bradford County Correctional Facility and pay court costs. Officer Bruce Huffman of the Sayre Borough Police Department arrested Bashore for the offenses in December 2012.

Isaac L. Strope, 60, Wysox, Pa., entered a plea of guilty before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton to the offense of Harassment and was sentenced to imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility for a term equal to the number of days already served at time of sentencing and he was ordered to pay court costs. Trooper Joshua Fisher of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Strope for the offense in July 2013 following investigation of an incident that occurred in Wysox Township.

Timothy M. Manahan, 42, Laceyville, Pa., entered a plea of guilty before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton to the offense of False Report to Law Enforcement Authorities and was sentenced to pay a fine and court costs. Trooper Miranda Musick of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Manahan for the offense in July 2013 following investigation of an incident that occurred in Wysox Township.

Officer Thomas Wilson of the Sayre Borough Police Department arrested Sutton for the offense in July 2013.

Mindy Rose Burnette, 25, Towanda, Pa., pled guilty to a felony charge of corruption of minors in Bradford Count Court on Monday. The plea was entered before jury selection began on charges brought by the Towanda Borough Police Department. Burnette will be sentenced in December following an investigation by the Bradford County Probation Office and a report by the Sexual Offender's Assessment Board. Officer Ryan Edsell of the Towanda Borough Police Department filed the charges in February after investigating incidents involving Burnette and a male minor.

Bradford County District Attorney announced that the following persons were sentenced Aug. 29, 2013 in the Court of Common Pleas:

Richard Long, 32, of Indiana, Pa., was sentenced to a tem if imprisonment in a Pennsylvania State Correctional Facility for 30 to 120 months for a fatal accident in Wells Township last March. Long's girlfriend, 26 year old Corry Suman, was killed in the one vehicle accident which occurred late in the morning of April 5, 2012. Witnesses said that Long's F-350 pick-up truck, owned by a New Jersey drilling firm, was driven erratically before the crash. Long thought he had fallen asleep after staying up most of the night packing for a move. Tests show Long had marijuana THC in his system. Trooper Robert Evans made the arrest after investigating the accident.

Joseph White, Millerton, Pa., was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in a State Prison for three years to 10 years for aggravated assault. White struck his girlfriend's two year old daughter and broke the child's leg in December 2012. Trooper Nate Lewis of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Brown following invesitagation of an incident that occurred in Wells Township.

Harassment

DORNSIFE - Keith William Moore, 34, of Dornsife, was cited by Trooper Daniel Wilk of state police at Stonington for harassment for allegedly pushing a 34-year-old female and 15-year-old female, both of Dornsife, at 12:10 p.m. Sunday at 558 State Road.

Theft charges

COAL TOWNSHIP - Kevineric Eltringham, 29, of 1432 W. Arch St., Coal Township, was charged by Patrolman Chris Lapotsky with theft and receiving stolen property for allegedly removing heavy equipment metal parts from a mining/construction site on Big Mountain owned by Kenneth Snyder, 34, of 5351 State Route 61, Paxinos.

Police said the parts, which are valued at $4,144.80, were recovered after Snyder apprehended Eltringham unloading them at Stoneroad's Salvage Yard in Paxinos.

Route 901 crash

EXCELSIOR - Michael Cress, 54, of 121 Cedar Road, Shamokin, escaped injury Friday afternoon when a tri-axle dump truck he was operating along Route 901 slid off the side of the road onto an embankment as the driver was attempting to avoid a collision with a vehicle stopped in front of him.

Patrolman Chris Lapotsky reported Cress was driving a truck owned by Indian Hills Trucking and Contracting, Paxinos, north at 2:45 p.m. when he traveled around a right curve and observed a vehicle stopped in his lane in front of him that was waiting for oncoming traffic to clear to make a left turn into Excelsior.

In an attempt to avoid a collision, Cress steered onto the right berm and embankment area, where it came to rest. The truck was then driven off the embankment and sustained minor damage to its right side.

Police probe break-ins at 3 Hanover Twp. businesses

HANOVER TWP. - Police are investigating break-ins at three businesses on Parkway Plaza on Sans Souci Parkway.

Sometime overnight between last Tuesday and Wednesday, someone forced entry through a rear door into the Jackson Hewitt tax office and an empty business in the same strip. Officers also found that someone smashed the front glass door of Gold-N-More. Someone also tried to pry open the front door of a wine and spirits store but did not succeed.

No items were reported missing Wednesday morning. Hanover Township police asked anyone with information to contact them at 570-825-1254.

Dozens involved in fight in Plains Twp.

PLAINS TWP. - Police reported they broke up a large fight around 1 a.m. Saturday.

The fight, which involved approximately 50 people, took place in the middle of South River Street. It started at the 279 Bar and Grill. There were no injuries or arrests, police said.

Man reports license plate stolen

HANOVER TWP. - Police are seeking information on a stolen license plate.

Nathan Warrick told police Saturday that some time within the past few days someone stole the license plate from inside his Lee Park Avenue residence. The plate is Pennsylvania registration JFZ-6580.

W-B man arrested on drug-dealing charges

HANOVER TWP. - A 30-year-old Wilkes-Barre man was arrested Friday for selling heroin and crack cocaine in Hanover Township and Nanticoke, according to Hanover Township police.

Alonzo McClinton, of East Northampton Street, was arrested as the result of an investigation by the state Attorney General's Municipal Luzerne County Drug Task Force. He was charged with multiple crimes, including delivery of a controlled substance and possession with intent to distribute.

McClinton was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Donald Whittaker in Nanticoke and is in custody at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility on $250,000 bond.

W-B police activity

WILKES-BARRE - City police responded to the following incidents:

n Terrence Collins reported on Wednesday that he found a U.S. Government Geneva Identification Card, a counterfeit $20 bill and six cut sheets with the $20 bill image in a storage locker he purchased.

n A church in the 400 block of South Main Street was burglarized Thursday. The suspect entered the church, which police did not identify, through a broken stained glass window and stole speakers, money and keys, and also threw items around.

n A man reported Thursday that someone smashed the driver's side window of his vehicle as it was parked in the 700 block of South Main Street and stole stereo equipment and other items.

n Two city men were jailed in Luzerne County Correctional Facility on Saturday on outstanding warrants from Luzerne County. Mark D. Forman, 60, of Essex Lane, was arrested at 12:57 a.m. on the grounds of Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Grant Collins, 41, of Coal Street, was arrested at 1:08 a.m. after a domestic dispute.

n A West Ross Street resident told police at 3:09 a.m. Saturday that someone entered an unlocked rear door of his apartment between midnight and 2 a.m. while the occupants were out and stole an Xbox 360, a PlayStation 3, an "NCAA 14" video game, cash and a black duffel bag.

n George Wolff was charged with retail theft Saturday after he stole numerous items from the Rite-Aid at 155 E. Northampton St. and fled on foot. He was caught by an officer on the scene and arrested.

n Dale Minnick of Hazle Street faces simple assault charges after allegedly hitting someone on the head and throwing the person to the ground at 11:50 p.m. Saturday. The victim showed signs of recent physical injury to the head and a swollen right eye and was transported to a local medical facility. An arrest warrant will be issued for Minnick, police said.

n A woman told police at 1:12 a.m. Sunday that someone stole the vehicle insurance and registration cards from her Honda Accord while it was parked at an establishment on Barney Street.

Harassment reported

State police at Towanda said that Luis Martinez, 31, of Towanda is accused in a harassment incident that took place at 3:50 p.m. Aug. 26 at Burger King restaurant on Route 6 in Towanda. Police said he threatened the victim, a 25-year-old Towanda man, with bodily harm. According to police, charges were filed in District Court 42-3-03 in Martinez' name.

Harassment occurs

State police at Towanda said Elmer Smith, 42, of Wyalusing is accused in a harassment incident that took place at 8:15 p.m. July 17 at 102 Front St., Wyalusing. Polce said the victim was a 25-year-old Wyalusing woman. According to police, a verbal argument turned physical.

Burglary charge

A Sayre man was recently arrested by borough police on a charge of burglary.

According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Jason Ryan Brown, 36, was also charged with receiving stolen property and resisting arrest.

Police said Brown entered a Hoover Street residence Sept. 1 and removed a purse. Brown ran away from police but later stopped resisting after police threatened to use a stun gun, police said.

Brown was arraigned Sept. 1 and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail. Brown's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 10.

Criminal mischief

COAL TOWNSHIP - Ronda Pollock, 47, of 140 S. First St., Coal Township, reported to Coal Township Police Department that someone cut a phone line to her residence between 5 and 5:30 p.m. Aug. 21. The damage estimate is not known.

Scattering rubbish

COAL TOWNSHIP - Jeremy Abdill, 22, of Mount Carmel, has been charged with scattering rubbish after several items with his name were discovered in the Third Patch area of Bear Valley Road on Aug. 29.

Abdill later admitted to dumping the household waste in the area and the citation was filed through the office of District Judge John Gembic, Shamokin, police said.

Disorderly conduct

COAL TOWNSHIP - Jaime Shaffer, 18, of Trevorton, and Kaitlyn Johson, 18, of Kulpmont, were both charged with disorderly conduct stemming from an incident at Walmart in Coal Township at Aug. 22.

Township Patrolman Chad Yoder said the two individuals allegedly engaged in a fight and continued to shout at each other both inside and outside the store.

Reckless endangerment

HALIFAX TOWNSHIP - A Dauphin County man was involved in a stand off with police and fired his firearm during the incident at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 2, according to state police at Lykens.

Police said they were called to 140 Parmer Road for a domestic incident and were unable to negotiate with the resident, Larry Nevin Lohr, 48.

The man allegedly came out of the home with a gun and the state troopers took defensive positions around the home.

Lohr reportedly fired a round from a .357 magnum handgun in an unknown direction and went back inside the house.

He eventually surrendered, was taken into custody and transported to Harrisburg Hospital, police said.

Lohr will be charged with reckless endangerment.

Bag found

SUNBURY - A travel bag was found on Route 4012, approximately 1/4 of a mile from Sunbury, between 2:30 and 3 p.m. Monday. Anyone wishing to claim the item is asked to call state police at Stonington at 286-5601.

Public drunkenness

SHAMOKIN - Paul F. Orlando, 57, of 405 E. Sunbury St., Shamokin, was cited by Patrolman William Zalinski for public drunkenness and disorderly conduct for allegedly smashing beer bottles on the pavement outside his residence and taunting passing motorists at 6:14 p.m. Saturday.

Ordinance violations

SHAMOKIN - Donna Conner, 56, of 1000 N. Orange St., Shamokin, and Philip Raker, 36, of 519 S. Anthracite St., Shamokin, were cited by Patrolman Shane Mowery for violating the city's abandoned vehicle ordinance.

Police said Conner's vehicle had an expired inspection and registration while parked at Cameron and Orange streets July 31. Police reported Raker's vehicle had an expired inspection while parked in the 600 block of West Mulberry Street Aug. 10.

Curfew violation

SHAMOKIN - Cpl. Darwin Tobias III cited a 17-year-old city male for a curfew violation in connection with an incident at 1:06 a.m. Monday at Market and Independence streets.

Anyone under the age of 18 is prohibited from being on city streets after 11 p.m.

Disorderly conduct

SHAMOKIN - Justin Fisher, 22, of 911 N. Vine St., Shamokin, was cited by Cpl. Darwin Tobias III for disorderly conduct after he ran from police and hid in the bushes at Sunbury and Shamokin streets at 2:21 a.m. Sunday.

Public drunkenness

SHAMOKIN - Cpl. Darwin Tobias III cited William Azbell, 52, of 614 N. Shamokin St., Apt. 206, Shamokin, for public drunkenness and disorderly conduct involving a disturbance at 5:36 a.m. Monday at 425 N. Shamokin St., Apt. 4.

Police reported Azbell removed an air conditioner from the ground floor of the apartment, stuck his head in the window and yelled.

Harassment

SHAMOKIN - Jason Russell, 27, of 409 N. Rock St., Shamokin, was cited by Patrolman Nathan Rhodes for harassment and disorderly conduct relating to an Aug. 13 disturbance at Mid-Town Car Wash on North Fifth Street.

Police said Russell allegedly hit Steven Moore, 42, of 1628 W. Montgomery St., Coal Township, with a soda bottle, prompting Moore to spray him with mace.

Squeals tires

SHAMOKIN - Sheldon A. Derck, 49, of 133 Academy St., Shamokin, was cited by Cpl. Jarrod Scandle for squealing his tires at 9:11 p.m. Friday at Water and Market streets.

Underage drinking

KULPMONT - Cody Shustack, 20, of Kulpmont, was cited by the Pennsylvania State Police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement for underage drinking, drinking while tending bar and escape relating to an incident at 2:30 a.m. Aug. 3 at the Jan Sobieski Society, 35 S. 10th Street.

Cited

SHAMOKIN - Three establishments were cited for violations by the Pennsylvania State Police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement.

The End Zone Bar and Grill, 216 N. 10th St., Kulpmont, was cited for a loudspeaker violation Aug. 22 for an incident that occurred April 4.

Quinny's Pub, 300 S. Market St., Shamokin, was cited Aug. 29 for selling liquor and/or malt or brewed beverages to a minor on July 5.

Marion Heights Fire Company, 418 Warsaw St., Marion Heights, was cited Aug. 29 for falsifying records.

Waverly police arrest four

Waverly village police recently arrested four people following investigation into activity at two residences in the village.

According to information from the Waverly Police Department, James D. Rogers, 22, of Waverly, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance after a search warrant located 60 narcotic pills. Kyle Simpson, 22, of Waverly, was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, police said.

Following a second search of a Broad Street residence, police located several hypodermic needles and arrested Corey M. Strope, 35, of Sayre, as a fugitive from justice, police said. Strope had a warrant for his arrest out of Bradford County, according to police. Strope was arraigned in Waverly village court and remanded to the Tioga County Jail.

Police also arrested an 18-year-old male on charges of burglary and grand larceny, police said. The male, who police did not identify, entered a local auto shop and stole a vehicle, police said. The vehicle was later located and returned to the owner. The male was arraigned in Waverly village court and remanded to the Tioga County Jail.

Further investigations are being conducted and additional arrests are expected, police said.

Waverly man resists arrest

A Waverly man was recently arrested by Sayre Borough police on a charge of resisting arrest.

According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Jacob A. Mosier, 24, was also charged with disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.

Police said Mosier engaged into a physical altercation with another male and yelled obscene language in the borough's municipal parking lot on North Lehigh Avenue at about 2:15 a.m. Aug. 31. Mosier appeared to be heavily intoxicated and resisted arrest for over a minute, police said.

Mosier was arraigned Aug. 31 and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail. Mosier's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 10.

Sayre man arrested

A Sayre man was recently arrested by Sayre Borough police on a charge of disorderly conduct.

According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Joshua R. Casterline, 21, was also charged with resisting arrest and public drunkenness.

Police said Casterline yelled at a female during an argument Sept. 1 at an Elmer Avenue residence. Casterline pulled away from officers and attempted to run from police, requiring police to deploy a stun gun on him before being taken into custody, police said.

Casterline was arraigned Sept. 1 and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail. Casterline's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 10.

Man cited for harassment

State police at Towanda recently cited a Towanda man for harassment following an incident at a Sheshequin Township residence.

According to state police information, John F. Maloney, 39, was cited after he swung at a female's head with a closed fist at about 7:10 a.m. Aug. 24 at a Beacon Light Road residence.

Access device fraud

State police at Towanda are seeking an unknown actor that unlawfully used the credit card information of a Sayre victim to make purchases.

According to state police information, the actor made six purchases at a Houston, Tex. Walmart totaling $1,212.99. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact state police at (570) 265-2186.

Waverly police increasing school zone enforcement

The Waverly Police Department would like to remind motorists to use caution when traveling in the village, as school has started in the Waverly Central School District.

The start of classes will lead to an increase in pedestrian traffic in and around schools, specifically small children walking to and from school, according to information from the department. Police ask that travelers be aware of the increase and observe posted speeds in school zones on their daily commutes. School zones in the village are posted at 15 miles per hour and are no-tolerance zones, police said.

Officers will increase enforcement in the areas of the village's schools to ensure safety and to remind commuters to slow down, police said.

Woman refuses to leave Comfort Inn room

Rita Mary Kulick, 56, of Williamsport has been charged with criminal trespass relating to a Aug. 25 incident at the Comfort Inn on State route 6 in Wysox Township.

According to police, Kulick refused to leave the hotel after her 11 a.m. check-out time. Kulick claimed that she could stay until noon before she had to leave.

Police said Kulick refused to open the door for the hotel staff and then called the front desk of the hotel and stated she isn't leaving the room.

Kulick refused to open the door to the room even after state police arrived at the scene, forcing police to use a key for the door to enter.

Police said Kulick attempted to push the door closed on the officers after the gained entry into the room.

Kulick was arraigned on the day of her arrest by Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton and remanded to the Bradford County Correctional Facility in lieu of $12,000 bail.

According to an online court docket, Kulick was released on her own recognizance on Sept. 3, the same day as her preliminary hearing.

Inmate charged

Marc D. Eberlin, 27, was charged with arrest prior to requisition around 8:30 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Bradford County Correctional Facility in West Burlington Township, due to the fact that he was wanted by the Waverly Police Department, said state police at Towanda.

Police said he was being housed at the jail, awaiting extradition to Waverly, N.Y. to face criminal charges there.

Man charged

State police at Towanda said Joshua Mathews, 32, who was being housed at the Bradford County Correctional Facility, was charged with arrest prior to requisition between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Aug. 19 at the Bradford County Correctional Facility in West Burlington Township.

Police said he has an active full extradition warrant from the Waverly Police Department for possession of a hypodermic needle and was awaiting extradition to Waverly, N.Y.

Underage drinking reported

State police at Towanda said that a 19-year-old Elmira, N.Y. man, who was a passenger in a vehicle in a crash at 7:10 p.m. Aug. 2 on Route 6 in Burlington, was found to be under the influence of alcohol, while under the age of 21.
