Woman switches price tags at Kmart
Alisha Dawn Dixon, 27, of Towanda, has been charged by state police with retail theft relating to a Nov. 30 incident at Kmart in Wysox Township.
According to police, Dixon changed price tags on both a Pittsburgh Steelers jersey and hooded sweatshirt and paid for them at a reduced price. Originally, police said, the items were both priced at $19.99 but after switching tags they were priced at $5.99 each at the register. After being detained, Dixon confessed the crime to police in a written statement, police said.
Dixon has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton on Feb. 25 at 1 p.m. for a preliminary hearing.
Car strikes tree
A New Albany woman escaped injuries recently when the car she was driving left the road and struck a tree.
According to state police, Zoraya S. McKernan, 20, was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt south on state Route 2009 on Monday in Wilmot Township, when she lost control of her vehicle on a right curve. The Cobalt crossed the road and traveled onto the east embankment, where it struck a tree and came to rest.
McKernan was wearing her seatbelt when the accident occurred. Police issued her a citation following the crash.
No injuries
No injuries were reported following a one-vehicle crash on state Route 2015 in Terry Township.
State police reported that Gerald M. Vargason, 23, of Wyalusing was driving a 2010 Dodge Charger east on Route 2015 on Monday when his vehicle hit a patch of ice, causing it to skid out of control. The car left the road and traveled onto the south berm where it struck a ditch. The impact disabled the Charger, requiring it to be towed from the scene. Vargason was wearing his seatbelt when the crash occurred, and was not cited following the accident.
Car strikes utility pole
A driver was cited by state police recently after the car he was driving left the road and struck a utility pole.
State police reported that William T. Welfel, 78, of Rome was driving a 2011 Toyota Tundra north on Battle Creek Road on Monday in Windham Township when it traveled onto the embankment, then into a ditch. The car then re-entered the road, crossing into the opposite lane of travel, then went off the road and struck a utility pole where it came to rest.
Police said Welfel will be cited for crossing the center line of traffic.
One cited following crash
Several people were taken to the hospital recently following a two-vehicle crash on state Route 467 in Pike Township.
According to state police, Angel A. Houghtaling, 33, of Owego, N.Y. was driving a Kia Spectra on Route 467 on Jan. 19, when her vehicle struck the rear of a 2010 Nissan Altima operated by Robert L. Houghtaling, 54, of Rome.
Police said the drivers and passengers of both vehicle were transported to Memorial Hospital in Towanda for evaluation following the accident. Angel Houghtaling was cited for operating a vehicle at an unsafe speed, police reported.
Fuel stolen
State police are investigating a fuel theft that occurred recently in Windham Township.
According to police, unknown perpetrators cut the locks off the fuel caps of industrial equipment at Precision Pipeline located on state Route 1049. The thieves stole the fuel from the vehicles, and left the scene.

Purse stolen
State police are looking for the thieves who stole a purse from a private residence in the Camptown area.
According to police, the perpetrators broke into the residence of Charlotte Merrill Sandor, 79, of Village Campton on Jan. 23 and removed her purse. The thieves also forged Sandor's signature and cashed a check for $1,600. Anyone with information about the incident is requested to contact the state police at (570) 265-2186.
Radiators stolen
State police are investigating the theft of two radiators from a bulldozer which occurred recently in Rome Township.
According to police, the incident occurred on Jan. 24 in the 1000 block of North Orwell Road. Police said the thieves removed the radiators with tracks from the bulldozer before fleeing the scene. Anyone with information about the incident is requested to call the state police at (570) 265-2186.
Altercation on school bus
State police are investigating an incident of harassment that occurred recently on a school bus on Jan. 23.
According to police, the two suspects, one 14 years old from Rome, the other 12 years of age from Wysox, are accused of engaging in a physical altercation while riding on the bus as it traveling on U.S. Route 187 in Rome Township. Police said the two are accused of punching and kicking each other during the incident.
Three charged with endangerment
Two people have each been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark, to answer a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to information filed in Clark's office, Jeffrey Ralph Sturzenegger, 61, and Karen Lee Prough, 52, both of Towanda, have also been charged with endangering the welfare of a child. State police officer Sean Cooney reported going to the residence of the accused on Dec. 27 after being contacted by a third party. When he arrived at the address, Cooney reported that he initially received no response despite numerous attempts to let those inside know he wanted to talk to them.
Eventually, the report continued, Prough let Cooney enter the premises. Inside the residence, Cooney found Sturzenegger, along with Charlee Koa Prough, 29, of Sayre, and a 4-year-old girl. While inside, Cooney said he observed a glass smoking pipe and a blue/silver smoking pipe inside the bedroom in plain view. In addition, Cooney noted, he also saw the residence was full of clothing, furniture, several dog kennels stacked on top of each other with multiple dogs inside, several dogs in the garage attached to the side of the house, and that the area was filthy. Cooney contacted Bradford County Children and Youth Services, and the local SPCA to inform them of the conditions of the residence.
The juvenile, according to the report, was eventually removed from the premises and released into the custody of another family member. Charlee Prough was also issued a citation for endangering the welfare of a child. All accused in the incident are scheduled to appear before Judge Clark on March 5.
Woman charged with false information
An Ulster woman was cited by state police recently on a charge of providing unsworn falsification to authorities.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark, Carrie Marie Labarr, 43, was charged with the above offense following an incident that occurred on April 30, 2013, in Monroe Township. Police said Labarr informed them she had been assaulted by a man around 2:30 p.m. on Beebe Hill Road. Police said Labarr provided them with a signed statement about the incident.
Later police continued, when they confronted Labarr with information which contradicted her story, she admitted she had made the entire incident up to get back at the man she had accused of performing the act.
Labarr is scheduled to appear before Judge Clark on March 3.
Man charged with possession
A Wysox man was charged by state police recently with possession of a controlled substance.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark, Kyle Andrew Netheron, 24, was charged with the above offense following an incident that occurred on May 28 in Sheshequin Township. Netheron is accused of being in possession of bath salts after his vehicle was stopped during a routine investigation.
Netheron is scheduled to appear before Judge Clark on May 28.
Forgery reported
State police are investigating an incident of forgery that occurred recently in Dushore.
According to police, an unknown person purchased items at Hurley's Fresh Market on two occasions on Jan. 18, and on each occasion paid for the purchases with a counterfeit $20 bill. Each bill has a serial number of JF 01804524, police said.
Credit card theft
State police are investigating a credit card theft that occurred recently in Dushore.
Police said that unknown persons gained the credit card information of Jeffrey Rolison of Dushore, and used it to purchase basketball tickets online. Anyone with information about the incident is requested to contact the state police at Laporte.
DUI charges
The following people were recently charged with driving while under the influence in Bradford County:
Joshua Ellis Long, 34, of Galeton, by state police, on Jan. 11, on State Route 706 in Stevens Township.
Long has also been charged with failing to possess his license while driving and careless driving.
A blood test revealed that on the night of his arrest, Long had a blood alcohol content of .147 percent, police said.
Long was found by police sleeping in a truck parked on the side of State Route 706 in Stevens Township.
He has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton on Mar. 4 at 1:15 p.m. for a preliminary hearing.
Ronald Allen Kipp, 58, of Wyalusing, by state police, on Jan. 13, on State Route 187 at Dixon Hill Road in Asylum Township.
Kipp has also been charged with failing to wear a seat belt, driving at an unsafe speed and careless driving.
A blood test revealed that on the night of his arrest, Kipp had a blood alcohol content of .128 percent, police said.
Kipp was initially pulled over by police for speeding, an affidavit of probable cause stated.
He has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton on Mar. 4 at 1:30 p.m. for a preliminary hearing.
Jon Carlton Sisson, 23, of Sayre, has also been charged with driving on the wrong side of the road, and careless driving. Sisson was charged by the state police following a traffic accident on U.S. Route 220 in Ulster Township, in which he vehicle struck another. Sisson was taken into custody at the scene, then transported to Memorial Hospital in Towanda where he refused to submit to a blood test. Sisson has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark on March 5.
Chad Gareett Alesky, 37, of Monroeton, has also been charged with operating a vehicle at an unsafe speed, careless driving, and operating an uninspected vehicle. Alesky was charged by state police following a traffic investigation on the Burlington Turnpike on Dec. 29. Alesky was taken into custody and agreed to submit to a blood test, which eventually revealed that his blood alcohol content was .234 percent on the day of his arrest. Alesky has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark on March 5.
Roy Thomas Blanchard, 30, of Monroeton, has also been charged by the state police with careless driving. Blanchard was charged following a traffic stop on Jan. 1 on U.S. Route 220 in Monroe Township. Blanchard was taken into custody and transported to Memorial Hospital in Towanda, where he agreed to submit to a blood test. The test eventually revealed that Blanchard's blood alcohol content was .194 percent on the day of his arrest.
Blanchard has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark on Feb. 26.
Everett Blakeman Collins, 33, of Troy, N.Y., has also been charged by state police with operating a vehicle at an unsafe speed, and careless driving. Collins was charged following a vehicle crash on state Route 2024 in Towanda Township on Jan. 17. Collins was transported to Memorial Hospital in Towanda where he refused to submit to a blood test. Collins has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark on Feb. 26.
