Marijuana possession charge
An Athens man was recently arrested by Athens Township police on a charge of possession of a small amount of marijuana.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, David Alan Callear, 53, was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police said Callear was found to be in possession of marijuana and a water bong during investigation into a 911 call Feb. 23 at his Riverside Drive residence.
Callear is scheduled to appear April 29 at a preliminary hearing before Judge Shaw.
Waverly man charged
A Waverly man was recently arrested by Tioga County, N.Y. sheriff's deputies on a charge of criminal mischief.
According to information from the sheriff's office, Randy A. Barrowcliff, 51, was charged following investigation into a complaint March 28 in Barton. Barrowcliff was issued tickets to appear April 1 in Barton Town Court.
Woman charged with burglary
A Waverly woman was recently arrested by Tioga County, N.Y. sheriff's deputies on a charge of burglary.
According to the sheriff's office, Lynette R. Ford, 29, was also charged with criminal mischief, assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Police said Ford was charged following investigation into a March 30 domestic incident that occurred at a location on Old Barton Road in Barton. Ford was remanded to the Tioga County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond and is scheduled to appear April 1 in Barton Town Court, police said.
Woman charged with possession
A Towanda woman was arrested by state police recently on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark, Brittney Dana Ferraro, 24, has also been charged with criminal use of a communication facility. Ferraro is accused of selling the prescription drug oxycodone from her apartment in North Towanda to a confidential police informant in September when she was not licensed to do so.
Ferraro was ordered incarcerated in lieu of $10,000 bail at her arraignment. Her preliminary hearing before Judge Clark has been scheduled for Wednesday.
Man charged with disorderly conduct
A Towanda man was ordered incarcerated in lieu of bail recently on a charge of disorderly conduct.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark, Joel D. Vanderpool, 31, has also been charged by Towanda police with public drunkenness.
Patrolman Josh Lake of the Towanda police reported being dispatched around 5:20 p.m. on March 28 to Elliot Street and Olive Street to investigate a man observed attempting to enter cars in the area, including a Towanda Borough Police unit.
Lake reported intercepting the man, identified as Vanderpool, at the intersection of Third Street and Elizabeth Street. Lake and another officer took Vanderpool into custody at the scene.
Vanderpool's preliminary hearing before Judge Clark has been scheduled for April 9.
Woman charged with possession
A Troy woman was arrested by Towanda police recently on a charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark, Amea Ranada Renzo, 32, has also been charged with possession of a controlled substance.
Renzo is accused of selling pills later identified as Acetaminophen and hydrocodone to an undercover police informant in a parking lot in Biedleman Alley in Towanda in December.
Renzo was arraigned before Judge Clark, who ordered the defendant incarcerated in lieu of $10,000 bail. Her preliminary hearing has been scheduled for April 2.
Man faces aggravated assault charge
A New York man was arrested by state police recently on a charge of aggravated assault.
According to a press release provided by the state police barracks in Tunkhannock, David Michael Yates, 46, of Ronkonkoma, has also been charged with simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, and harassment. Yates is accused of throwing another man onto the deck of the Laceyville River Bridge in Windam Township, Wyoming County, on March 30. Yates was arraigned and incarcerated in the Wyoming County Correctional Facility in lieu of bail.
Criminal mischief reported
State police are investigating a case of criminal mischief that occurred recently in Towanda Township.
According to police, unknown persons damaged a vehicle owned by an unidentified woman and stole items from within the vehicle. Police said the incident occurred between Feb. 4 and March 25 at 925 S. Main St. Anyone with information about the incident is requested to contact the state police at (570) 265-2186.
No injuries
No injuries were reported when a one-vehicle accident occurred on U.S. Route 220 in Towanda Township.
State police reported that Justin A. Staats, 24, of Rome, was driving a 2009 Mitsubishi Eclipse south on Route 220 on March 27 around 3:10 a.m. Police said Staats fell asleep at the wheel, causing his vehicle to travel onto the south berm of the road, where it struck an embankment on the passenger side. The Eclipse traveled up the embankment and started to rotate clockwise as it rolled onto the driver's side. The Eclipse came to final rest on the southbound berm of Route 220 with the driver's side against a tree.
Assisting the state police at the scene were Towanda Fire Department, Towanda Fire Police, Memorial EMS, and Fulmers Recovery. Police said Staats will be charged with driving on the wrong side of the road.
Man faces DUI charge
A New York man has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark to answer a charge of driving while under the influence.
According to information filed in Clark's office, Carl Allen Winslow, 31, of Bath, has also been charged by Towanda police with possession of an open alcohol container in a moving vehicle, and careless driving. Winslow was charged on Feb. 24 following a routine traffic investigation at the corner of Houston Street and York Avenue. After being taken into custody, Winslow agreed to submit to a blood test at Memorial Hospital in Towanda, which eventually revealed that his blood alcohol content was .157 percent on the day of his arrest.
Winslow's preliminary hearing has been scheduled for May 7 before Judge Clark.
