Probation warrant arrest made in Waverly

At 9:45 a.m. on Oct. 5, Brenda M. Worthington, 40, of Candor, N.Y. was arrested by Village of Waverly Police on a bench warrant for an alleged violation of her probation in regard to a previous misdemeanor third degree assault charge, Waverly police said.

Worthington surrendered herself to Waverly police and was arraigned in the Village of Waverly Justice Court that morning, police said.

Police said Worthington was sent to the Tioga County, N.Y. Jail to await further legal action.

Worthington was also wanted by the Tioga N.Y. Sheriff's Department for absconding from the Tioga County, N.Y. Probation Office, according to police.

Bail was set at $10,000 cash, $20,000 property bond, police said.

Worthington's return court date is scheduled for 4 p.m. Oct. 8, in the Village of Waverly, N.Y. Justice Court, police said.

Athens woman charged with paraphernalia possession

Sayre Borough Police charged 27-year-old Melissa Jane Ferro with drug paraphernalia possession on Sept. 27, Sayre police said.

Ferro was charged in connection with a warrant arrest made near the Spring Street Dandy Mini Mart location after police saw a male with a warrant out for his arrest enter the store, police said.

After taking the male into custody, police had Ferro and another person exit the vehicle after noticing the other person concealing a pocket knife, police said.

When Ferro was getting identification from her purse, police said they observed a metal spoon with burnt residue on it, police said.

Ferro then provided police with two hypodermic needles with one containing a clear liquid, a metal spoon with burnt residue, and a plastic sandwich bag, all of which was hidden in her bra, police said.

Police found several baggies and a glass straw with burnt residue in Ferro's purse as well, police said.

Ferro has been issued a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on Nov. 10 for her preliminary hearing.

Woman injured

State police at Towanda said Arlene R. Reinhard, 74, of Troy, suffered a moderate injury in a crash recently on Alba Mountain Road in Armenia Township.

According to police, she was traveling south, and lost control of her Ford Explorer, due to a medical condition, and drove up an embankment, crossed over the opposing lane of travel, went down an embankment, and impacted a tree. Police said she was taken to Troy Hospital for her injuries. The vehicle remained in contact with the tree at the point of impact, police said.

Junior's Towing towed the vehicle from the scene, and the Troy Fire Department assisted at the scene, police said.

No injuries

State police at Towanda said Charles A. Lorenson of Gillett was not injured in a crash that occurred recently on Doty Hill Road in South Creek Township.

Police said another vehicle struck Lorenson's vehicle, while he was entering the roadway. According to police, the other vehicle was traveling slightly in the left lane of travel on Doty Hill Road, approximately one-half mile from the intersection of Doty Hill Road and Route 14. Police said the other vehicle sustained damage to the front windows, mirror and a pillar and Lorenson's vehicle had no damage. The other driver was asked to exchange insurance information, but fled before Lorenson was able to obtain information. The other vehicle is described as a dark green sedan of unknown make/model. Police said it might have significant damage to the driver's side, including a missing mirror and a damaged windshield and driver's side window. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact state police at (570) 265-2186.

People not injured

State police at Towanda said two people were not injured in a two-vehicle crash that occurred recently on Route 549 at its intersection with Route 328 in Wells Township.

Police said drivers involved in the crash were Gail A. Ewanyk, 61, of Pine City, N.Y., and Mark E. Gee, 66, of Tioga, Pa.

According to police, the crash occurred as Ewanyk was stopped on Route 328 at its intersection with Route 549, at a stop sign. Gee's vehicle was traveling south on Route 549, traveled off the roadway, and struck Ewanyk's vehicle, police said.
