Drugs

SHAMOKIN - Jimmie Driggers II, 24, of 135 Birch St., Shamokin, was charged with drug offenses and other crimes following an investigation into a smoky condition in the area of North Vine Street Dec. 21.

According to court documents filed by Shamokin Police Patrolman Raymond Siko II, police were investigating a smoky condition near Harrison Street when he observed a vehicle on a dirt road near the railroad tracks blocking the lane. When Siko shined a spotlight inside the vehicle, he saw three individuals, including Driggers, who was in the driver's seat.

When asked if he had anything illegal, Driggers gave the officer a plastic bag containing a substance he identified as "spice" or synthetic marijuana. Driggers was taken into custody on an active warrant, and police executed a search warrant on the vehicle Dec. 31. They found pills, several items of drug paraphernalia, approximately $800 in cash, a box of .22 caliber shells and a rifle and a pair of brass knuckles.

Driggers was charged with three felony counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance; a felony charge of being a former convict not allowed to own a firearm; misdemeanor charges of possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia and prohibited offensive weapons, and a summary charge of driving while his operating privilege is suspended. The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin.

Hit and run

JACKSON TOWNSHIP - State police at Stonington continue to investigate a hit-and-run crash at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday near Amish School Road.

Police said an unknown blue pickup truck towing a piece of farm equipment struck the side of a 2014 Freightliner semi-truck, driven by Bruce Girgenrath, 45, of New Eagle, and continued without stopping. Authorities said paint was transferred from the trailer onto Girgenrath's vehicle.

Stolen property

SHAMOKIN - Stephen M. Hornberger, 28, of 1121 Chestnut St., Kulpmont, was charged with receiving stolen property after attempting to sell online a nail gun owned by him and a former business partner. The gun was purchased using a joint account opened while Hornberger and the other individual were still in business.

The charges were filed by Shamokin City Police patrolman Scott Weaver and filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 18.

Harassment

LITTLE MAHANOY TOWNSHIP - State police at Stonington said an investigation is continuing into an assault on a Line Mountain school bus at 2:35 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said a 16-year-old Trevorton female struck an 11-year-old Shamokin male while the two were riding home from school. The incident occurred on Route 225.

DUI

SHAMOKIN - William C. Slusser, 42, of 132 Main St., Apt. 3A, Bloomsburg, was charged with driving under the influence and a number of traffic violations by state police Trooper Justin Rosboschil following a traffic stop at 1:48 a.m. Dec. 27 near Route 61 and Shamokin Street, Shamokin.

According to police, Slusser refused all tests after he was observed turning from Market Street onto Route 61 without using a turn signal and swerving into another lane while traveling on Route 61.

In addition to the DUI, Slusser was charged for failing to drive on the right side of the road, failing to drive in a single lane, failing to use a turn signal, careless driving and failing to wear a seatbelt.

The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 18.

Pole causes crash

JORDAN TOWNSHIP - A Dalmatia woman was not injured following a one-vehicle crash at 1:30 a.m. Jan. 7 on Klingerstown Road near the Hebe Bypass.

State police at Stonington said a 2005 Jeep Liberty, driven by Sheila L. Deiter, 55, of Dalmatia, was traveling west on Klingerstown Road and, during heavy wind conditions, encountered a downed utility pole. Deiter was unable to see the downed pole and struck it with the Liberty's right front.

The vehicle sustained a flat right front tire, which was changed, and Deiter was able to drive the vehicle from the scene.

DUI

SHAMOKIN - City police charged Michael Stepp, 21, of 262 Roadarmel Lane, Paxinos, with five counts of driving under the influence and cited him for careless driving following the investigation into a rollover crash at 1:14 a.m. Dec. 6 near Chestnut and Fifth streets.

According to court documents prepared by Patrolman Scott Weaver, Stepp's blood alcohol level was .17 percent and marijuana was present in his system.

The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin, and a preliminary hearing scheduled for Feb. 18.

Two injured in crash

LITTLE MAHANOY TOWNSHIP - One person was transported for treatment following a two-vehicle crash at 9:45 a.m. Jan. 10 on Sunshine Drive near Route 225.

State police at Stonington said a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier, driven by Scott L. Musser, 49, of Shamokin, was traveling south on Sunshine Road and negotiating a downhill right curve while a 2013 Mazda 2, driven by Brenda L. Bonsall, 44, of Shamokin, was traveling north and making an uphill left curve. Police said Musser exited his lane and entered the northbound lane, and the two vehicle struck each other head on.

Bonsall suffered an injury to her upper body and was transported to Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital for treatment. A passenger in Musser's vehicle, Kathy Darbrow, 44, of Shamokin, suffered a minor injury to her head and was treated at the scene. Two other passengers in Musser's vehicle, a six-year-old female and a four-year-old male, were not injured.

Police were assisted at the scene by Americus Ambulance.

Retail theft

SHAMOKIN - Christina J. Hepner, 25, of 19 E. Independence St., Apt 7, was charged with a felony count of retail theft by Shamokin City Police Cpl. Bryan Primerano after allegedly taking candy and sunglasses valued at $9.48 from the Dollar General Store at 5:12 p.m. Monday.

The crime is deemed a felony offense because it is Hepner's third retail theft offense; she pleaded guilty twice before. The charge was filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, and a preliminary hearing scheduled for Feb. 18.

Nuisance violations

SHAMOKIN - The following individuals were cited Jan. 15 by Shamokin City Police Cpl. Bryan Primerano for violating the city's nuisance ordinance.

- Rosa J. Hernandez, of 308 12th St., Brooklyn, N.Y., for a property she owns at 801-803 E. Sunbury St. Items are falling from the building, which also has a damaged roof, unsecured windows and broken glass.

- Adam G. Brooks, 46, of 821 Mount Carmel St., for his home, which is a building in danger of collapsing. Items are falling from the building, which also has broken glass, a damaged chimney and an exterior wall in danger of falling.

Abandoned vehicle

SHAMOKIN - Patricia J. Persing, 36, of 1010 E. Race St., Coal Township, was cited by city police Cpl. Darwin Tobias III Jan. 1 for violating the city's abandoned vehicle ordinance by parking a vehicle with registration that expired in May 2013 in the 1000 block of East Race Street.

Theft arrest

COAL TOWNSHIP - A 20-year-old township resident is accused of stealing video gaming equipment and a debit card from his father. He is also accused of withdrawing hundreds of dollars from his father's bank account.

Police said Marquese T. Seger, of 921 W. Mulberry St., stole the debit card from Job Seger, of 934 W. Willow St., and made five withdrawals totaling $568.48 from several Shamokin ATMs Dec. 27 and Dec. 28.

The stolen Nintendo Wii, games and accessories are valued at an estimated $1,200, police said.

Marquese T. Seger admitted to the thefts, police said. He was charged by Patrolman Jason Adams with a felony count of access device fraud, two misdemeanor counts of theft and one misdemeanor count of receiving stolen property.

Seger is currently held at Northumberland County Prison, Sunbury, after violating bail conditions stemming from a 2012 theft arrest. He was jailed last week after being arrested by Shamokin police for allegedly stealing multiple items from unlocked cars.

Police Briefs

Attempted theft occurs in Wysox Twp.

State police said they are investigating an attempted theft from a number of motor vehicles that were parked in a driveway in the 300 block of Laning Creek Road in Wysox Township.

Someone rummaged through the vehicles, which were unlocked, but no items were reported stolen and there was no damage to the vehicles, police said.

The incident occurred sometime between 10 p.m. on Jan. 10 and 6:30 a.m. on Jan. 11 at the residence of Wanda Jean Carter, police said.

Athens student charged with marijuana possession

An Athens man was recently charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana by Athens Borough police.

According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Dustin P. Yost, 18, was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of tobacco on school property.

Police said Yost and a 16-year-old juvenile male smoked marijuana in a vehicle prior to entering Athens Area High School for classes the morning of Jan. 13. School administrators searched the vehicle and found three lighters, a utility knife, three packs of cigarettes, a plastic bottle with burnt residue and a plastic bag and plastic container holding a substance believed to be marijuana, police said. The items were turned over to police.

Yost's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 18.

Vandalism occurs in Franklin Twp.

State police at Towanda said they are trying to determine who opened a Frontier Communications repeater box in Franklin Township, removed three repeaters, and threw them into the woods near the box.

This act of vandalism occurred at 12:49 a.m. Tuesday along Foot Plains Road, police said.

Theft occurs in Wysox Township

Someone recently stole a wooden frame at the old Rolling Acres building at 936 Craftmaster Road in Wysox Township, police said.

The theft occurred sometime between Jan. 11 and Jan. 13, state police said.

State police seeking shoplifting suspect in Wysox Twp.

State police said they are seeking the public's help in catching a male suspect who has been stealing items from the East Towanda Dandy Mini Mart in Wysox Township.

The suspect entered the store at 11:08 a.m. on Jan. 12 and took various snacks, drinks, and several pairs of heavy duty work gloves, police said.

The same suspect was also involved in a series of thefts from the same convenience store on Nov. 19 and Nov. 20, police said.

Police described the suspect as white, 40 to 50 years old, with gray shoulder length hair. During the Jan. 12 incident, he was searing blue jeans, a gray T-shirt, a dark colored jacket, and a gray baseball cap, and was driving a silver Chevrolet Cavalier, police said.

Checks forged in Wysox Township

A 90-year-old male reported that a number of checks were taken from his checkbook and were used without his permission, police said.

The total amount of checks that were taken and forged was five, for a total of $4,900, state police said.

The crime took place between Dec. 10 and Dec. 16 in the 31000 block of U.S. Route 6 in Wysox Township, police said.

Man injured in Towanda Twp. crash

Everett B. Collins, 33, of Troy suffered a moderate injury in a recent motor vehicle accident in Towanda Township, police said.

Collins was traveling east on Liberty Corners Road at 1:16 a.m. Friday when, for an unknown reason, he lost control of his 2000 Saturn Vue, police said.

The vehicle went off the north side of the road, struck a guard rail, continued to travel east, and then traveled down an embankment, police said.

The vehicle came to rest on the bank of a creek, state police at Towanda said.

Once emergency medical personnel made contact with Collins, he fled on foot to a nearby residence, police said.

Bradford County District Attorney Daniel J. Barrett announced that the following people were recently sentenced in the Bradford County Court of Common Pleas, Towanda:

Burton Johnson, 35, Towanda, Pa, was sentenced to Probation for a term of 18 months and a fine of $150 for the offense of Theft, a misdemeanor of the first degree. Trooper Mark Sadowski of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Johnson following investigation of an incident that occurred in Towanda Township on April 25, 2012.

Thomas Manning, 42, Athens, PA, was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in a Pennsylvania State Correctional Facility of from four months to five years and a fine of $500, for the offense of Corruption of Minors.

Officer Steven Burlingame of the Sayre Borough Police Department arrested Manning for the offense in May 2013.

Donald Rice, 37, Waverly, NY, was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility of from three months to 23 months for the offense of Corruption of Minors. Trooper Brandon Allis of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Rice following investigation of an incident that occurred in Sayre Borough.

Matthew B. Crandle, 33, Troy, PA, was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility of from six months to 48 months, he was also ordered to pay restitution of $46,848, for the offense of Theft by Deception, the court delayed the incarceration for 30 days. Trooper Nathan Lewis of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Crandle following investigation of an incident that occurred in Canton Township.

Todd Grover, 21, Towanda, PA, was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility of from 72 hours to six months and a fine of $1,000; he will also lose his driver's license for 12 months for the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor. Trooper Brandon Allis of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Grover following investigation of an incident that occurred in Towanda Borough on Nov. 29, 2012.

Duane A. Walter Jr, 27, Wyalusing, PA, was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility of from four months to 12 months; he was also ordered to pay restitution of $2645 for the offense of Theft by Unlawful Taking. Trooper Nathan Lewis of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Walter for the offense.

David Crane, 23, Towanda, PA, was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility of from two and half months to 23 ½ months and a fine of $2500 for the offense of Corruption of Minors, a misdemeanor of the first degree. Trooper David Pelachick of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Crane following investigation of an incident that occurred in Leroy Township in March 2013.

David Lee Kellogg III, 22, Covington, PA, was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in a Pennsylvania State Correctional Facility of from six and a half to 16 years, for the offense of Aggravated Indecent Assault and three counts of Statutory Sexual Assault. Trooper David Pelachick of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Kellogg following investigation of an incident that occurred in Springfield Township. Kellogg will also be required to register as a sexual offender for his lifetime. Kellogg will receive credit for 267 days of incarceration at the Bradford County Correctional Facility before he was sentenced to state prison.

Shannon L. Kellam, 36, Athens, PA, was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility of 48 hours and a fine of $500, she will also lose her driver's license for 12 months, for the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol. Officer Nathan Ross of the Sayre Borough Police Department arrested Kellam for the offense.

Harold V. Vanderpool, 43, of Barton, NY, was sentenced to Probation for a term of two years and was also ordered to pay reimbursement $200 for buy money, and will also lose his driver's license for six months, for the offense of Delivery of a Controlled Substance (Vicodin). A member of the Bradford County Drug Task Force arrested Vanderpool for the offense.

Cricket M. Grover, 25, Monroeton, PA was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility of from six month to 23 months with Probation for a term of two years and a fine of $200, she will also lose his driver's license for six months, for the offense of Introduction Contraband into Correctional Facility.

Trooper Thad Warnick of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Grover for the offense.

Peter Rosenberger, 30, of Athens, PA was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in Bradford County Correctional Facility of from 72 hours to six months and a fine of $1,000, he will also lose his driver's license for 24 months, for the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor of the second degree, Fleeing and Eluding, a misdemeanor of the second degree. Officer Bruce Hoffman of the Sayre Borough Police Department arrested Rosenberger for the offense in July 13, 2013.

Michael Porter, 30, of Troy, PA was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in Bradford County Correctional Facility for 90 days and County Intermediate Punishment for 24 months, he will also lose his driver's license for six months, for the offenses of Delivery of a Controlled Substance, a felony, and Conspiracy to Deliver a Controlled Substance, also a felony. Agents of the Pennsylvania State Police Vice and Narcotics Unit arrested Porter following investigation of an incident that occurred in Athens Township in May 2013.

Stephen Patel, 30, of Lajunta, CO, was sentence to a term of imprisonment in Bradford County Correctional Facility of from six days to six months and County Intermediate Punishment for six months and a fine of $1000, he will also lose his driver's license for 12 months, and an additional license suspension of 12 months will be imposed for refusal to submit to testing when arrested, for the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor. Officer Joshua Lake of the Towanda Borough Police Department arrested Patel for the offense in June 1, 2013.

Mindy R. Burnett, 25, of Towanda, PA was sentence to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility of from three months to 18 months and a fine of $300, for the offense of Corruption of Minors.

Officer Ryan Edsell of the Towanda Borough Police Department arrested Burnett for the offense. Burnett will be required to register as a sexual offender for a term of 15 years.

Mark V. Wurzler, 23, of Towanda, PA, was sentenced to Probation for a term of one year and a fine of $150, for the offense of Criminal Conspiracy to Deliver a Controlled Substance. Agents of the Pennsylvania State Police Vice and Narcotics Unit arrested Wurzler for the offense.

Jesse Dupont, 21, Troy, PA was resentenced following revocation of his original sentence of probation for violation of probation conditions to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility of from 20 days to six months and Probation for a term of one year, for the offense of Disorderly Conduct and Defiant Trespass. Officer Michael Northup of the Troy Borough Police Department arrested Dupont for the offense.

Bradford County District Attorney Daniel J. Barrett announced that the following persons were recently accepted into the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition (ARD) Program in the Bradford County Court of Common Pleas, Towanda:

Patrick Spiers, 21, Magnolia, NJ, charged with the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of 12 months. While on probation, Spiers will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department, which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, Spiers must perform community service with the DUI Litter Brigade and attend a Victim Impact Panel and he will lose his Pennsylvania driving privilege for 60 days. Officer Trey Kurtz of the Canton Police department filed the charges in July for the offense in Canton Borough.

Lexus Parsons, 21, Sugar Run, PA, charged with the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of 12 months. While on probation, Parsons will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department, which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, Parsons must perform community service with the DUI Litter Brigade and attend a Victim Impact Panel as conditions of ARD placement; she will also lose her Pennsylvania driving privilege for 60 days. Trooper Joshua Fisher of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Parsons for the offense in July 11, 2013 in Terry Township.

Jaime Sutryk, 41, Sayre, PA, charged with the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of nine months. While on probation, Sutryk will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department, which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, Sutryk must perform community service with the DUI Litter Brigade and attend a Victim Impact Panel as conditions of ARD placement; he will also lose his Pennsylvania driving privilege for 60 days. Officer Rich Horton of the Athens Township Police Department filed the Charges in July 26, 2013 for the offense in Athens Township.

Douglas T. Wenzel, 44, Athens, PA, charged with the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of nine months. While on probation, Wenzel will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department, which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, Wenzel must perform community service with the DUI Litter Brigade and attend a Victim Impact Panel as conditions of ARD placement; he will also lose his Pennsylvania driving privilege for 60 days. Officer Jason Serfas of the Sayre Borough Police Department filed the charges in September for the offense in Sayre Borough.

Budd W. Clark, 61, Wysox, PA, charged with the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of nine months. While on probation, Clark will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department, which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Trooper Joshua Fisher of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Sluyter following investigation of an incident that occurred in 2011 in Wysox Township. Sluyter had been arrested in Alabama with a warrant and was transported to Pennsylvania.

Ronald Chesla, 48, Rome, PA, entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver, a felony. Chesla will be sentenced on Jan. 30, 2014, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Agents of the Pennsylvania State Police Vise and Narcotics Unit arrested Chesla following investigation of an incident that occurred in Rome Borough on Oct. 25, 2012.

Larry Bennett, 54, Towanda, PA, entered pleas of guilty to the offense of Possession of a Designer Drug, a felony. Bennett will be sentenced on January 30, 2014, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Agents of the Pennsylvania State Police Vise and Narcotics Unit arrested Bennett following investigation of an incident that occurred in Towanda Township on July 2, 2013.

Renee Sluyter, 37, Wysox, PA entered a plea of guilty to Theft, a felony of the third degree. Trooper Joshua Fisher of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Sluyter following investigation of an incident that occurred in Wysox Township in 2011. Sluyter had been placed in the diversionary ARD program but failed to comply with the program the ARD was revoked and the case was called to trial.

Duane Demellier, 32, Sayre, PA, entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Obstruction, a misdemeanor of the second degree. Demellier will be sentenced a Jan. 30, 2014, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Trooper Miranda Musick from the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Demellier following investigation of an incident that occurred in North Towanda Township.

Tonya Merritt, 25, Wyalusing, PA, entered a plea of guilty to Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a misdemeanor.

Merritt will be sentenced following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Deputy Brian Wibirt of the Bradford County Sheriffs Officer Department arrested Merritt for the offense February after observing paraphernalia.

Amber Muzzy, 25, New Albany, PA entered a plea of guilty to Theft, a misdemeanor of the first degree.

Muzzy will be sentenced following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Officer Richard Horton of the Athens Township Police Department arrested Muzzy for the offense in July.

Charles Skaggs, 44, formerly of Towanda, PA, entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Possession of Methamphetamine precursors, a felony. Skaggs will be sentenced on Jan. 30, 2014, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Sergeant David Lantz of the Towanda Borough Police Department arrested Skaggs for the offense on May.

In three separate cases Warfle had been arrested by Trooper Nate Lewis of the Pennsylvania State Police and Deputies Dan Bush and Patrick Butkiewicz of the Bradford County Sherriff's Department.

Devaun Stedge, 25, Columbia Crossroads, PA, was sentenced to probation for a total term of six months, and a fine of $100, for the offense of Flight to Avoid Prosecution. Officer Jeremy Horton of the Sayre Borough Police Department arrested Stedge for the offense.

Shamarr Grant, 32, Binghamton, NY, was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in a Pennsylvania State Correctional Facility of from 36 months to 72 months, he was also ordered to pay restitution of $600 (buy money) and a fine of $1000, he will also lose his driver's license for six months for the offense of Delivery of Controlled Substance, a felony. Agents of the Pennsylvania State Police Vice and Narcotics Unit arrested Grant following investigation of an incident that occurred in Windham Township in 2011.

Miranda Hamilton, 23, Sugar Run, PA, was sentenced to probation for a term of one year, she will also lose her driver's license for 12 months, for the offenses of Possession with Intent to Deliver, a felony and Possession of a Controlled Substance, a misdemeanor. Agents of the Bradford County Drug Task Force arrested Stroud for the offense in May 11, 2012.

While on probation, Bright will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department, which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, Bright must perform community service with the DUI Little Brigade and attend a Victim Impact Panel; he will also lose his Pennsylvania driving privilege for 60 days. Officer Jason Serfas of the Athens Township Police Department filed the charges in Sept. 2, 2013 for the offense in Athens Township.

Randy V. Foust, 51, Canton, PA, entered a plea of guilty to Indecent Assault, a misdemeanor of the first degree.

Foust will be sentenced on April 28, 2014, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department and an evaluation by the State Sexual Offender Assessment Board. Trooper David Pelachick of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Foust following investigation of the incident that occurred in Canton, Pa, Canton Borough Police Department also participated in the investigation.

Zachary Lawson, 28, formerly of Troy, PA, entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Involuntary Manslaughter.

Lawson will be sentenced on March 6, 2014, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Charges were filed by the former Chief Kyle Wisel of the Troy Borough Department following investigation into the death in July 2011 of the victim from use of heroin provided by Lawson. Lawson was apprehended in 2013.

Neil Todd Fox, 31, Sellersville, PA, entered a plea of guilty to the offenses of two counts of Reckless Endangering, misdemeanor of the second degree and Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor.

Fox will be sentenced on March 6, 2014, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Trooper Michael Moser of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Fox following investigation of an incident that occurred in August 2012 in Burlington Township.

PFA violation

State police at Towanda recently reported that a Towanda man is accused of violating a protection from abuse order against an adult female, also of Towanda.

According to information from state police, John Thomas Parker Jr., 31, violated the conditions of the order Dec. 13 at a Towanda Township location.

Police investigating wallet theft

State police at Towanda are currently investigating a theft from a motor vehicle in Burlington Township.

According to state police, a wallet was removed sometime between 9 p.m. and 9:19 p.m. Jan. 16 from a vehicle at a McNeal Road location. The wallet contained valuables and two video games, police said. No suspects can be linked to the investigation at this time, according to police.

State police are currently investigating a reported burglary in Franklin Township.

State police at Towanda are investigating threatening telephone calls made recently in Rome Township.

Gas stolen

State police at Towanda are investigating a reported gasoline theft from a Sylvania Borough location.

According to state police, at about 12:45 p.m. Nov. 25, 2013, an unnamed suspect removed $20 worth of gas from a location on Route 6. Anyone with information is asked to contact state police at (570) 265-2186.

Police seek suspect in thefts

State police are currently investigating theft incidents reported in Wysox Township.

3 escape injury

TURBOT TOWNSHIP - A 41-year-old Shamokin woman and two young children escaped injury Saturday morning in a one-vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 147 and Broadway Road in this Northumberland County township.

State police at Milton reported Margarita Alicea was driving a 1995 Isuzu Blazer north in the left lane of Route 147 at 7:35 a.m. when she lost control of her vehicle as it traveled onto the snow-covered left shoulder. The Blazer struck guardrail three times, causing it to become disabled and towed from the scene.

Alicea and her two passengers, a 4-year-old Shamokin girl and a 4-year-old Shamokin boy, were not injured.

Police said Alicea will be cited for driving without a license and failure to drive in a single lane.

Vehicle hits pole

ATLAS - Mount Carmel Township police are continuing to investigate an accident involving a black 2001 Ford Sport Trac crashing into a utility pole early Saturday morning along Route 61 near the American Legion in Atlas.

Police said Jamie Lee Jurevicz, 34, of Atlas, was driving north on Route 61 at 1 a.m. when she tried to avoid striking a cat on the highway, causing her vehicle to veer off the road and crash into a utility pole.

Jurevicz and her passenger, Katie Shuey of Kulpmont, escaped injury.

The sport utility vehicle sustained extensive front-end damage and was towed from the scene.

Patrolman David Stamets is the investigating officer. He was assisted at the scene by Mount Carmel Patrolman Justin Stelma, personnel from AREA Services Ambulance and firefighters from Atlas Fire Company.

Coal Township man uninjured

BARNESVILLE - Christian Hassinger, 37, of Coal Township, escaped injury Saturday morning in a one-car accident on Barnesville Drive (Route 54) near Walnut Street.

State police at Frackville reported Hassinger was driving a 2010 Chevrolet HHR west when he lost control on the snow-covered road, causing his car to slide across the oncoming lane and ascend an embankment. The vehicle went around a telephone pole before sliding down the embankment and back onto the road. The vehicle then slid across both lanes and shoulders before coming to rest along side the road.

Police said Hassinger was wearing a seat belt and multiple air bags deployed.

The undercarriage and front suspension of the vehicle sustained severe damage. The auto was towed from the scene.

Route 225 crash

LITTLE MAHANOY TOWNSHIP - Colton J. Trego, 24, of Herndon, suffered a moderate injury early Monday when the 2001 Mercury Cougar he was driving south on Route 225 exited the highway and struck a utility pole.

State police at Stonington said Trego, who was able to free himself from the wreckage, was transported by Trevorton Ambulance to Lenig's ballfield, where a LifeFlight helicopter landed and flew him to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Trego was listed in fair condition Monday afternoon, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Police said Trego was cited for driving at an unsafe speed in connection with the 1:30 a.m. accident that occurred near Sunshine Drive.

Drug possession

TURBOTVILLE - A 17-year-old female was charged by state police at Milton with possessing pills not prescribed to her relating to a Jan. 10 incident at Warrior Run High School.

Public drunkenness

SHAMOKIN - Richard Conner, 45, of 612 N. Shamokin St., Apt. 206, Shamokin, was cited by Patrolman Scott Weaver for public drunkenness relating to an incident at 11:43 p.m. Thursday outside his apartment building.

Abandoned vehicle

SHAMOKIN - Jonathan Allwein, 35, of 438 S. Shamokin St., Shamokin, was cited by Patrolman Shane Mowery for an abandoned vehicle violation involving an incident Wednesday in his neighborhood. Police said Allwein's vehicle had an expired inspection.

Public nuisance

SHAMOKIN - Adam G. Brooks, 821 Mount Carmel St., Shamokin; Rosa J. Hernandez, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Stella P. Alli, of Fall River, Mass., were cited Monday by Cpl. Bryan Primerano for causing a public nuisance by allowing buildings they own to be in danger of collapsing.

Police said Brooks' residence has broken glass strewn about and materials falling from it. Hernandez's property at 801-803 E. Sunbury St. has extensive roof damage and broken glass. Alli's property at Shamokin and Packer streets also has broken windows and is in danger of collapsing, police said.

Hit and run

RANSHAW - Ralph Eck, of Shamokin, reported the passenger side quarter panel and rear bumper of his 2007 Ford Taurus were damaged in a hit-and-run accident at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Webster and Third streets.

Witnesses said they saw an older model full-size Chevrolet pickup truck traveling west on Webster Street strike Eck's parked car. The truck was two-tone blue and gray.

Man faces drug paraphernalia charge

A Towanda man has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark to answer a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to information filed in Clark's office, Gabriel Spencer, 38, was charged by Towanda police on Jan. 10 with the above offense. Police were summoned by Spencer to his residence around 7:11 p.m., according to reports, to investigate the possibility that an unauthorized person was inside. Police said they found no one inside the premises when they investigated, but did observe a hypodermic needle in the kitchen which could be used to inject a controlled substance into a person.

Spencer is scheduled to appear before Judge Clark on Jan. 29.

Two cited following dispute

Two people were cited by state police recently following a domestic dispute in Towanda.

According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark, Gary Leigh Johnson Jr., 22, and Ashley Lynn Kerver, 22, both of Towanda, have each been charged with simple assault, and harassment. Both are accused of striking each other on Jan. 19 during an argument at their residence. Johnson is also accused of threatening to use a taser on Kerver during the incident.

Both have been sent a summons to appear before Judge Clark on Jan. 29.

Man fails to appear for sentencing

A New York man was ordered incarcerated in Bradford County jail recently on allegations he earlier failed to show up for a sentencing hearing in court.

According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark, Douglas Todd Williams, 41, of Malone, N.Y., has been charged with default in required appearance. Williams was scheduled to appear in Bradford County Court on Jan. 6, to be sentenced on a variety of offenses, including rape of a child, according to court papers. Williams failed to appear at the appointed time, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Williams was eventually located and extradited back to Bradford County, where he was incarcerated in lieu of $100,000 bail. His preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Jan. 29 before Judge Clark.

Two charged following fight

Two people were charged by Towanda police recently following an altercation that occurred at a private residence on Pine Street.

According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark, Star R. Parker, 32, and Andrew R. Gomez, 29, both of Towanda, have each been charged with simple assault (mutual consent fight), and harassment. Police reported being called to the residence on Jan. 17 to investigate a disturbance. When they arrived, police said, they observed that both Parker and Gomez had suffered recent injuries, and determined from the two that they had earlier gotten into a physical altercation.

Both have been sent a summons to appear before Judge Clark on Jan. 22.

Man accused of theft

A New Albany man has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark to answer a charge of theft by unlawful taking.

According to information filed in Clark's office, Derek James Doss, 25, has also been charged by state police with criminal mischief. Doss is accused of stealing a purse of a New Albany woman on Dec. 30, which contained $150 and other items.

Doss is scheduled to appear before Judge Clark on Feb. 26.

Man charged with default

An Ulster man was ordered incarcerated in lieu of bail recently on a charge of default in required appearance.

According to information filed at Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark's office, Ryan Jon Hunsinger, 20, failed to appear for a sentencing hearing in Bradford County Court on Nov. 7. A warrant was issued for Hunsinger's arrest at the time, and he was recently taken into custody. Hunsinger's preliminary hearing before Judge Clark has been scheduled for Jan. 22.

Man charged with endangerment

A Troy man has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark to answer a charge of endangering the welfare of a child.

According to information filed at Clark's office, William Wilkinson, 24, has also been charged by Towanda police with corruption of a minor. Wilkinson is accused of having injected himself with morphine on Dec. 28 in Towanda in the presence of a 5-year-old boy. Wilkinson is scheduled to appear before Judge Clark on Feb. 21.

Man charged with criminal mischief

A Towanda man was cited by state police recently on a charge of criminal mischief.

Information filed with Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark indicated that Adonay Alvarez, 21, was cited for the above offense following an incident that occurred on Nov. 10. Alvarez is accused of having caused $1,400 in damages to a 2014 Dodge Ram owned by Kelvin Rivera as it was parked at his residence in Monroeton Borough.

Alvarez is scheduled to appear before Judge Clark on Feb. 19.

Two charged with drug violations

Two people were charged with violation of the controlled substances act following an investigation in Monroe Township.

According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark, Todd Michael Pierce, 36, of Monroeton, and Candice Joy Hercenberg, 28, of New Albany, have each been charged by state police with the above offense. On Nov. 27, the report continued, police were dispatched to the Pennsylvania Game Commission lands located off Weston Road in Monroe Township, to serve an arrest warrant on Pierce for an unrelated matter. When they arrived, police said, they found Pierce in a Chevrolet Trailblazer, and he was taken into custody. Also in the vehicle was Hercenberg, police said. While conducting an inventory search of the vehicle, the report continued, police found a number of items, including several hypodermic needles, as well as a white powdery substance in a clear plastic baggie.

Both are scheduled to appear before Judge Clark on Feb. 19.

Man cited for harassment

A Dushore man was cited for harassment by state police following an incident in Mill Street Apartments.

According to police, Randy Hunsinger, 24, has been accused of striking Jessy Walker, 21, in the stomach on Jan. 18.

Car strikes deer

No injuries were reported when a car struck a deer on state Route 187 in Asylum Township.

State police reported that Daryll A. Lambert, 43, of Montour Falls, N.Y., was driving a 2011 Mercedes-Benz south on Route 187, when a deer jumped out in front of his vehicle, causing a collision. Police said Lambert was wearing his seatbelt when the accident occurred, and the vehicle had to be towed from the scene.

Driver cited

A driver was cited by state police recently following a two-vehicle collision on U.S. Route 6 in Standing Stone Township.

According to police, Rodney L. Minier, 43, of Unityville, was driving a 2001 Freightliner west on Route 6 on Jan. 11 around 12:58 p.m., when his vehicle crossed the center line of traffic for an unknown reason. The Freightliner struck the oncoming trailer of a truck operated by Michael A. Miller, 52, of Rome.

Neither driver was injured in the accident. Minier was cited for crossing the center line of traffic, police reported.

Vehicle leaves road

No injuries were reported when a vehicle left the road and traveled down an embankment on Fisher Road in Standing Stone Township.

According to state police, Nathaniel L. Dunbar, 29, of Troy was driving a 1997 Ford Explorer south on Fisher Road when he drove off the road onto the west side of the berm. The vehicle then struck the embankment and traveled down over into a creek bed before coming to rest on large rocks. Police said Dunbar was issued a citation for operating his vehicle at an unsafe speed.

Woman cited after crash

A Rome woman was cited for following too closely recently, following a two-vehicle accident on U.S. Route 6 in North Towanda Township.

According to state police, April N. Richardson, 25, of Rome was driving a 2003 Dodge Stratus east on Route 6 around 7:22 a.m. on Jan. 14. Traveling in front of the Stratus was a 1995 Dodge 1500 operated by Angela Jackson, 39, of Troy, who stopped her truck because of another vehicle that was in the process of making a turn. Police said Richardson was unable to stop her car in time, causing it to strike the rear of Jackson's vehicle.

No one was injured from the crash, police said.

Collision shuts down Route 220

State police are investigating a two-vehicle collision that occurred recently on U.S. Route 220 at Church Hill Road in Cherry Township, Sullivan County.

According to police, a 2006 Dodge Durango was traveling north on 220 around 7:10 p.m. on Jan. 15. The Durango traveled into the southbound lane of 220 for an unknown reason, and struck a Kenworth tri-axel. The Durango continued north and west before going off the road and striking an embankment, where it came to a halt. Route 220 was shut down for approximately 3 1/2 hours to remove the vehicles and clean up about 110 gallons of diesel fuel that spilling on the road after impact, police reported. The identity of the two drivers was not provided in the report, but police indicated they were both taken to Robert Packer Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Police were assisted at the scene by units from PennDOT, Sullivan County Emergency Management, Dushore Fire and Ambulance, and the Mildred Fire Company.

The investigation into the crash is still on-going, police reported.

DUI charges

The following people were recently charged with driving while under the influence in Bradford County:

Mark L. Barrett, 42, of 813 Cemetery St., Towanda. Barrett was also charged by state police with driving on the wrong side of the road, and changing lanes of traffic without using the proper signal. Barrett was charged after being stopped by police around 6:58 p.m. on Nov. 29 in U.S. Route 6 in Burlington Township. A blood test eventually revealed that Barrett's blood alcohol content was .223 percent on the day of his arrest. Barrett has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark on Feb. 12.

Nancy Jean Tucker, 47, of 27 Dogwood Ln., Wysox. Tucker has also been charged by state police with driving on the wrong side of the road, operating a vehicle at an unsafe speed, and careless driving, after being stopped on Liberty Corners Road around 11:04 a.m. on Dec. 2 in Towanda Township. Tucker has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark on Feb. 28.

Timothy John Bailey, 34, of Pine City, N.Y. Bailey has also been charged by state police with operating a vehicle while his license was suspended or revoked, operating a vehicle without insurance, driving on the wrong side of the road, operating a vehicle at an unsafe speed, and careless driving. Bailey was charged following a vehicle crash on Shaw Boulevard in Monroeton around 4:55 p.m. on June 18, 2013. A blood test eventually revealed that Bailey's blood alcohol content was .125 percent on the day of his arrest. Bailey has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark on Feb. 19.

Ronald Kipp, 28, of Wyalusing. Kipp was charged following a traffic stop by state police on state Route 187 at Dixon Hill Road in Asylum Township around 7:07 p.m. on Jan. 13.

Harry Scott Cohen, 47, of Waverly, by Sayre Borough police, on Jan. 18, in the parking lot of Robert Packer Hospital. Cohen has also been charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving damage to an unattended vehicle, public drunkenness and disorderly conduct. Cohen refused a blood alcohol test to determine his blood alcohol content. Cohen was arraigned Jan. 18 by Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail. Cohen's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 21.

Cash stolen

HUMMELS WHARF - A former employee of Walmart Supercenter along Routes 11/15 in Monroe Township, Snyder County, is accused of stealing $3,194.65 from a cash register.

Police say Kathy Ann Hoover, 40, of Sunbury, was recorded on security cameras stealing the money between Dec. 8 and Jan. 14. She is charged by Trooper Nathan Wenzel of state police at Selinsgrove with felony counts of theft and receiving stolen property.

Linens stolen

HUMMELS WHARF - State police at Selinsgrove are investigating an incident at 11:05 a.m. Dec. 24, when two unnamed suspects are accused of taking pillow cases and bed sheets valued at $159.52 from a shelf inside Walmart Supercenter, Route 11/15, Monroe Township, Snyder County, and exchanging them at the courtesy desk for gift cards valued at $169.10.

Abandoned vehicle

SHAMOKIN - Cynthia Rogers, 43, of 327 State Route 2026, Coal Township, was cited by Patrolman William Zalinski for an abandoned vehicle violation relating to a Dec. 17 incident in the first block of North Second Street.

Police said Rogers' vehicle had an expired inspection.

Hit and run

COAL TOWNSHIP - Jennifer Reed, 41, of Coal Township, reported a vehicle struck her 2013 Toyota Corolla on the driver's side in a hit-and-run accident between 7 p.m. Jan. 10 and 7 a.m. Jan. 11 in a parking lot across from the emergency room department at Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital.

Bicycle found

COAL TOWNSHIP - A maroon Montgomery Ward 10-speed bicycle was turned in to Coal Township Police Department after being abandoned at the rear of the 100 block of North Poplar Street between Arch and Water streets Jan. 16.

The owner of the bike can claim it by contacting police at 570-644-0333.

Vehicle strikes property

COAL TOWNSHIP - Patrolman Matthew Hashuga said nobody was injured Tuesday night when a 1987 Toyota 4-Runner driven west on Independence Street near Cedar Street slid on the snow-covered road and struck the front of a property at 1304 W. Independence St.

Police identified the driver as Corey McAndrew, 17, of Mount Carmel.

The building hit by the 4-Runner at 6:50 p.m. sustained damage, as did the front end of the vehicle. The building is owned by Stephen Slodysko, of Coal Township.

Beer kegs stolen

COAL TOWNSHIP - Joshua Scandle, 34, of Shamokin, was charged by Coal Township police with theft for allegedly stealing empty beer kegs from Brewser's Sports Grille and turning them in to Champion Beverage in the Anthra Plaza for $60.

iPad stolen

COAL TOWNSHIP - Ernie Salamone, 43, of Shamokin, reported someone stole his Apple iPad and an OtterBox case from his Toyota Tundra while it was parked in a lot at Walmart Supercenter along Route 61 at 8:30 p.m. Monday.

The iPad is valued at $400 and the case costs approximately $100.

Car hits pole

ROCKEFELLER TOWNSHIP - Brandon Dellaterza, 18, of Paxinos, escaped injury Tuesday morning when a 1998 Buick Century he was driving north along Route 890 slid on the snow-covered highway and struck a pole.

Police said Dellaterza was wearing a seat belt. His car sustained moderate damage in the 11:20 a.m. accident near Trout Pond Road.

Vandalism

MOUNT CARMEL - Two 13-year-old males and a 12-year-old male, all from Mount Carmel, were charged with institutional vandalism, criminal conspiracy and criminal mischief by Mount Carmel Township Police Patrolman Brian Carnuccio following an incident at the Mount Carmel Area Elementary School at 5:10 p.m. Dec. 9.

Police said the three youths climbed onto the roof of the school and damaged a surveillance camera. The three youths were identified after the footage from the camera system was viewed. The damaged camera was valued at $785.
