Dereck Chad Baldwin, 34, of RR2 Troy, faces a preliminary hearing at 1 p.m. today on drug-related and other charges for an incident that occurred around 10 a.m. Dec. 1 at 144 Laurel Lake Road in Columbia Township, in which he was called out of the residence by police after a perimeter was set up, according to court papers filed with the office of Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox of Troy.

Following the incident, a search was conducted of the residence, which yielded 22 9 mm bullets, one Glock magazine, two digital scales, a plastic syringe holder containing syringes, a piece of mirrored glass, a spoon with residue on it, a 1/3 measuring cup with residue in it, a pen made into pipe, a 7/32 Craftsman socket with residue on it, five empty plastic bags containing residue, a plastic bag with suspected marijuana, a plastic bag with suspected bath salts, and a glass smoking pipe with residue, the papers note.

Police were dispatched to the location, where Baldwin was in an argument over a cigarette lighter with Jennifer Baldwin, no age given, the occupant of the residence, according to an affidavit. Troopers found that Dereck Baldwin had an active warrant with the Bradford County Sheriff's Department. At Laurel Lake Road, troopers were met by Heather Lines, 32, of Towanda, who advised them that Dereck Baldwin was still inside and had a firearm. Other troopers were called to the scene, a perimeter was established, and the road was closed to traffic. Using a bullhorn, Cpl. Smith was able to persuade Dereck Baldwin to come outside of the residence, where he was taken into custody without incident. According to police, Dereck Baldwin had cut open the bed box springs in the room where the other items were found, and concealed a KelTec Sub2000 Luger firearm. The search was conducted most notably in the room where Dereck Baldwin's and Lines' property was located, said police.

Dereck Baldwin was charged with a violation of "persons not to possess/use/manufacture, control, sell, or transfer firearms," violations of the Controlled Substance, Drug, Device, and Cosmetic Act, and disorderly conduct. He was placed in Bradford County Correctional Facility, in lieu of $65,000 bail, which wasn't posted.

Police said Lines also had an active warrant with the sheriff's department. Lines was charged with violations of the Controlled Substance, Drug, Device, and Cosmetic Act, and faces a preliminary hearing at 1 p.m. today before Wilcox. She was placed in Bradford County Correctional Facility, in lieu of $55,000 bail, which wasn't posted.
