DUI charges

The following people were recently charged with driving while under the influence in Bradford County:

Phillip M. Baker, 30, of Sayre, by Sayre Borough police, on Sept. 15, on North Lehigh Avenue in Sayre. Baker has also been charged with careless driving. A blood alcohol test revealed that Baker's blood alcohol content was .18 percent on the day of his arrest. Baker has been sent a summons to appear Feb. 4 before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw for a preliminary hearing.

Raymond Gerald Vanderpool, 54, of Sayre, by Sayre Borough police, on Dec. 14, on Desmond Street in Sayre. Vanderpool has also been charged with operating a vehicle with a suspended license. A blood alcohol test revealed that Vanderpool's blood alcohol content was .23 percent on the day of his arrest. Vanderpool has been sent a summons to appear Jan. 28 before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw for a preliminary hearing.

Jacob Randall Schmidt, 23, of Hughesville, Pa., by Athens Borough police, on Dec. 28, on Edward Street in Athens. Schmidt has also been charged with failure to keep right, failure to stop at a stop sign, failure to use a turn signal and violating required position and method of turning. A blood alcohol test revealed that Schmidt's blood alcohol content was .15 percent on the day of his arrest. Schmidt has been sent a summons to appear Jan. 28 before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw for a preliminary hearing.

Woman charged with making threats

A Sayre woman was recently charged with making terroristic threats by Athens Borough police.

According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Faith Vandyke, 35, was also charged with harassment.

Police said Vandyke threatened to burn down the house of a borough resident and threatened two people on various occasions.

Vandyke's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 28.

Woman charged in hit-and-run

A Sayre woman was recently charged with leaving the scene of an accident by Sayre Borough police.

According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Rachel J. Marrero, 29, was also charged with failure to give information and render aid and operating a vehicle without a license.

Police said a vehicle operated by Marrero struck an occupied vehicle at about 5:20 p.m. Dec. 20 at Spring and Bradford streets, then fled the scene. Marrero had a suspended license at the time of the accident, police said.

Marrero's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 28.

Two charged following altercation

Athens Township police recently charged two women with simple assault following a Dec. 31 altercation at the Sayre VFW on Lockhart Street.

According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Rebecca A. Aseline, 37, and Dawn Marie Miller, 38, were each also charged with disorderly conduct and harassment by physical contact.

Police said Aseline, Miller and two other individuals were involved in an altercation in the lobby area of the VFW at about 11:15 p.m. Dec. 31. According to police, Aseline and Miller were both taken to Robert Packer Hospital for treatment of injuries related to the fight.

Both Aseline and Miller are scheduled to appear Feb. 18 at preliminary hearings before Judge Shaw.

One vehicle accident in Terry Twp.

John Voda, 45, of Wyalusing has been charged by state police with careless driving relating to a one vehicle accident on Wyalusing New Albany Road in Terry Township on Dec. 27.

According to police, Voda was traveling up hill and exiting a left curve when he crossed lanes and struck an embankment.

The 2006 Dodge Ram then rolled onto its drivers side and came to a rest blocking both lanes of travel.

Police said it is not known if Voda was injured during the accident.

One hurt

ELYSBURG - A Bloomsburg woman was injured in a two vehicle crash at 11:30 a.m. Thursday on East Center Street.

Ralpho Township Police said a vehicle operated by Deborah Rundle, of Monroe Avenue, Bloomsburg, was traveling south on Route 487 when it struck the rear of a pick-up truck operated by Maurice Geary, of Rushtown Road, Danville, that was attempting to turn onto East Center Street.

Rundle was transported to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, by Elysburg paramedics. Geary and his passenger, Sandy Geary, were not injured.

Assisting police at the scene were members of the Elysburg Fire Department. Police said the investigation is continuing.

Car into house

MOUNT CARMEL - A Mount Carmel man may have suffered a medical condition when he crashed an Oldsmobile into the front of a double-home at 420-422 E. Third St., around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday. The man, who was not identified by police, was transported to Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital for a blood test, police said. Little to no damage occurred to the house or car.

One-vehicle crash

THARPTOWN - An unoccupied vehicle drifted through a parking lot near the entrance to the emergency room at Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital Wednesday afternoon and crashed into a tree, causing extensive damage to the rear bumper and trunk.

Coal Township police reported Shirley Kessler, 47, of Trevorton, failed to set the parking brake on her 2010 Kia after parking near a handicapped space at the entrance doors. The car then coasted backward shortly after 2 p.m. before turning right and traveling across a helipad and down an embankment. The car stopped after hitting a tree and was towed from the scene.

No injuries were reported.

Steals rings

COAL TOWNSHIP - Chanda Hine, 38, of 1446 Pulaski Ave., Coal Township, has been charged by Patrolman David Sage with stealing two rings valued at $89.96 belonging to her neighbor, Joy Kulenguskey, of 1444 Pulaski Ave.

According to a criminal complaint filed at the office of Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, Hine removed a package containing the rings from Kulenguskey's mailbox Dec. 3.

Theft charges

COAL TOWNSHIP - John F. Monterosso, 59, of 327 Centre St., Ashland, was charged by Patrolman Jason Adams with theft and receiving stolen property for allegedly stealing a coat owned by Eleanor Shulskie from a waiting room in the emergency room department at Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital Dec. 29. The coat is valued at $40.

Stalking

SHAMOKIN - Cpl. Darwin Tobias III has charged Joshua L. Scandle, 34, of Coal Township, with stalking, harassment and disorderly conduct involving a Dec. 7 disturbance at 225 S. Fourth St.

Police said Scandle allegedly threatened to slit the throat of his former girlfriend, Brooke Fratelli, burn her house down and cut the brake line on her vehicle.

After being warned by police to avoid contact with Fratelli, Scandle allegedly sent a picture via text to the victim's residence and indicated he saw police respond to Fratelli's complaint.

Retail theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - Richard A. Armstrong, 32, of 125 E. Arch St., Shamokin, was charged by Patrolman Edward Purcell with retail theft for allegedly stealing baseball cards, an iPhone case, DVD player and other items valued at $135.42 from Walmart Supercenter along Route 61 on Dec. 18.

Drug charges

SHAMOKIN - Patrolman Raymond Siko II has charged Scott K. Collins Jr., 30, of 310 N. Shamokin St., second-floor apartment, with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a small amount of marijuana relating to a Dec. 22 incident at his apartment building.

SHAMOKIN - Richard J. Giedosh Jr., 22, of 702 Bear Valley Ave., Shamokin, was charged by Patrolman Raymond Siko II with possession of drug paraphernalia involving a Dec. 22 incident at his home.

Retail theft

MOUNT CARMEL - John D. Gilbert, 46, of 231 S. Poplar St., Mount Carmel, was charged by Patrolman Kevin Katch with retail theft for allegedly stealing a can of Spam valued at $2.50 and attempting to remove other items from the Dollar General store at 250 S. Market St. Nov. 18.

DUI

MOUNT CARMEL - Ronald W. Hain Jr., 41, of 221 E. Seventh St., Mount Carmel, was charged by Patrolman Justin Stelma with driving under the influence of alcohol involving a Dec. 21 vehicle stop in the 200 block of East Seventh Street.

Police said Hain had a blood-alcohol content of .16 percent.

DUI

MOUNT CARMEL - Cpl. David Donkochik filed charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of a controlled substance, careless driving, driving on the wrong side of the road and a turning violation against Robert C. Beaver, 50, of 403 Columbia Ave., Aristes, relating to a Sept. 28 incident at Second and Maple streets.

Police said Beaver had a blood-alcohol content of .21 percent and also was under the influence of amphetamines.

Criminal trespass

M0UNT CARMEL - Charges of criminal trespass, possession of drug paraphernalia, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness were filed by Patrolman William Adamski against Michael P. McFadden, 42, of 251 E. Buick St., Mount Carmel.

Police reported McFadden was charged in connection with a Nov. 24 disturbance in the 100 block of East Fifth Street.

DUI

RALPHO TOWNSHIP - Roseann M. Shannon, 35, of 2 S. Locust St., Mount Carmel, was charged by Patrolman Christopher Grow with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under suspension and careless driving involving a Dec. 4 accident at Sheetz along Route 487 in Elysburg.

Police said Shannon refused to submit to chemical testing.

DUI

RALPHO TOWNSHIP - Patrolman Chris Dailey has charged Michael G. Cobin, 65, of 2351 Stetler Drive, Coal Township, with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and damage to unattended property involving a Dec. 7 accident at 293 Overlook Blvd. in which his vehicle struck trees several times and caused $1,524 damage to landscaped property.

Police said Cobin had a blood-alcohol content of .153 percent.

DUI

RALPHO TOWNSHIP - Joseph R. Brodie, 34, of 1213 Chestnut St., Kulpmont, was charged by Officer Christopher Grow with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of marijuana, failure to drive in a single lane, a high-beam violation and a turning violation.

The charges relate to an Aug. 31 vehicle stop at the intersection of Route 54 and Quarry Road.

Police said Brodie had a blood-alcohol content of .237 percent.

Retail theft

RALPHO TOWNSHIP - Joshua M. Daya, 30, of 134 W. Center St., Apt. 2A, Elysburg, was charged by Cpl. Bryon Chowka with retail theft for allegedly stealing $18.63 in merchandise from Sheetz in Elysburg between Aug. 29 and Sept. 29.

MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP - Sean R. Baker, 27, of 18 W. Fifth St., Mount Carmel, was charged by Chief of Police Brian Hollenbush with retail theft for allegedly stealing medication valued at $15.51 from Boyer's Food Market Dec. 12.

COAL TOWNSHIP - A new sweatshirt found lying on the street in the east end of the township was turned in to police. The owner can claim the shirt by contacting police at 644-0333.

Police Briefs

Retail theft charges filed

A Corning, N.Y. man was recently arrested by Sayre Borough police on a charge of retail theft.

According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Francis Benjamin Moore, 43, was also charged with attempted retail theft, possession of drug paraphernalia and public drunkenness.

Police said at about 2:49 a.m. Jan. 8, Moore removed $313 worth of merchandise from the Dandy Mini Mart on Spring Street, including 10 pairs of gloves, seven hats and four cellular phone accessories. Police found a razor blade, snort straw and a small plastic baggie with white powder residue on his person, police said.

Moore was arraigned Jan. 8 and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail. Moore's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 14.

Police investigate one-car MVA

State police at Towanda recently investigated a one-car motor vehicle accident in Smithfield Township.

According to state police information, at about 10:10 a.m. Dec. 27, an eastbound 2008 Volkswagen Jetta operated by Shelly J. Wood, 24, of Troy, traveled over the fog line while negotiating a left-hand curve. Police said the vehicle then traveled through snow and ice, spun counter-clockwise and traveled across both lanes before striking two embankments and coming to final rest.

Police said Wood wore a seatbelt and was uninjured. Dave's Auto Care Center of East Smithfield towed the vehicle from the scene, police said.

Police cited Wood for failure to stay in lane, police said.

Lost bag found

State police at Towanda seek the owner of a duffel bag found in Sheshequin Township.

According to information from state police, the bag was located Dec. 26 on a gas well pad site off Woodrun Road.

Anyone who may have lost the bag is asked to contact state police at (570) 265-2186.

Nobody injured in one-car crash

State police at Towanda recently investigated a one-car motor vehicle accident in Sheshequin Township.

According to state police information, at about 8:45 p.m. Dec. 26, a southbound 1997 Nissan Maxima operated by Mark A. Roof, 18, of Towanda, lost control on an ice-covered North Rome Road and struck a tree head-on in the roadway's western berm.

Police said Roof and two passengers, 20-year-old Emily K. Mauser of Honey Brook, Pa. and 18-year-old Jacob A. Cole of Rome, wore seatbelts and were uninjured. Benjamin's Towing removed the vehicle from the scene, police said.

Police cited Roof for speeding, according to police.

Trees removed from business

State police at Towanda are investigating a criminal mischief case in Ulster Township.

According to information from state police, an unknown actor or actors cut two trees down at Milan Nursery sometime between Dec. 20 and Dec. 29. Anyone with information is asked to contact state police at (570) 265-2186.

Police investigate MVA

State police at Towanda recently investigated a one-car motor vehicle accident in Stevens Township.

According to state police information, at about 12:19 a.m. Dec. 20, a southbound 2003 Subaru Forester operated by Craig A. Fitzgerald, 33, of New Albany, traveled off Wyalusing-New Albany Road into the southbound berm and struck a boulder.

Fitzgerald and a 4-year-old female passenger had minor injuries but were not transported to a hospital, police said. The vehicle had disabling damage, police said.

Police cited Fitzgerald for failure to stay in lane, police said.

Police were assisted by Wyalusing EMS, Towanda Memorial EMS and Shelby's Towing.

One cited in Terry Twp. MVA

State police at Towanda recently investigated a one-car motor vehicle accident in Terry Township.

According to state police information, at about 11:08 p.m. Dec. 27, an eastbound 2011 Dodge Ram operated by Hugh M. North, 62, of Seminole, Okla., lost traction on a section of Short Road due to snow and ice conditions. The vehicle then slid off the roadway and struck a tree with its front end, police said. North was not injured, police said. Police cited North for failure to drive on the right side of the roadway.

Two charged in altercation

Sayre Borough police recently arrested two people in connection with a Jan. 9 altercation at a South Keystone Avenue residence.

According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Krysti C. Rogers, 18, and Delta D. Burns, 38, both of Sayre, were each charged with simple assault and harassment. Police said the two were involved in a physical altercation at about 9 p.m. Jan. 9. Police said Rogers pushed Burns to the ground and struck her several times, while Burns pulled Rogers' hair and punched her in the head with a closed fist.

Rogers and Burns were arraigned Jan. 9 by Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox and released from the Bradford County Jail on their own recognizance. Their preliminary hearings are scheduled for Jan. 14.

SHAMOKIN - Patrolman Shane Mowery cited Thomas Walsh, 46, of 1045 W. Valley Ave., Elysburg, twice for criminal mischief for allegedly damaging windshield wipers on cars belonging to Bonnie Hartley and Holly Deppen on Dec. 24 at Mulberry and Vine streets.

- Assault-Aggravated/Domestic: At 12 a.m. Jan. 1, police responded to the 4100 block of Old Iron Court for a reported assault. During argument, known offenders cut each other. One was arrested, warrants obtained for the other.

- Assault-Aggravated/Dometic: At 11:53 p.m. Jan. 1, police responded to the 300 block of Memorial Ave. in regards to a disturbance. Known offender assaulted victim with fists, discharged a weapon in the residence and was arrested.

Bradford County District Attorney Criminal Case resolutions

Bradford County District Attorney Daniel J. Barrett announced that the following persons recently plead guilty and was sentenced in Bradford County Magisterial District Courts:

Timothy Short, 36, Towanda, PA, entered pleas of guilty before Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark to the offense of Harassment, a summary offense and was sentenced to five days and court costs. Trooper George Layou of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Short for the offense on Nov. 29, 2013, following investigation of an assault that occurred in Towanda Township.

Mark Briggs, 45, Gillett, PA, entered a plea of guilty before Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark to the offense of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a misdemeanor and was sentenced to 15 days and a court costs.

Officer Joshua Lake of the Towanda Borough Police Department arrested Briggs for the offense in Sept. 26, 2013, following investigation of a Possession of Drug Paraphernalia that occurred in Towanda Borough.

Matthew Janne, 31, New Albany, PA, entered a plea of guilty before Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark to the offense of Theft, a misdemeanor of the third degree, and was sentenced to restitution in the amount of $156 and court costs. Trooper James Dughi of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Janne for the offense in Aug. 12, 2013, following investigation of a theft that occurred in Overton Township.

Stephen Jenner, 26, New Albany, PA, entered a plea of guilty before Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark to the offense of Receiving Stolen Property, a misdemeanor of the third degree and was sentenced to restitution in the amount of $156 and court costs. Trooper James Dughi of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Jenner for the offense in Aug. 14, 2013, following investigation of a theft that occurred in Overton Township.

Thomas Shock, 36, Towanda, PA, entered a plea of guilty before Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark to the offense of Disorderly Conduct, a summary and was sentenced to pay a fine of $50 and court costs. Trooper Robert Lumbard of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Shock for the offense in October 23, 2013, following investigation of a disorderly conduct that occurred Burlington Township.

Troy Ellers, 30, Sayre, PA, entered a plea of guilty before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw to the offense of Disorderly Conduct, misdemeanor of the third degree and was sentenced to pay a fine of $300 and court costs. Sergeant Daniel Reynolds of the Sayre Borough Police Department arrested Ellers for the offense in Oct. 27, 2013, following investigation of a Disorderly Conduct that occurred in Sayre Borough.

Lee Ann Keenon, 33, Nichols, NY, entered a plea of guilty before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw to the offense of Retail Theft, a summary offense and was sentenced to nine days plus a fine of $300 and court costs.

Officer Roger Clink of the Athens Township Police Department arrested Keenon for the offense in Nov. 17, 2013, following investigation of a retail theft that occurred in Athens Township.

Candi Belles, 27, Nichols, NY, entered a plea of guilty before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw to the offense of Retail Theft, a summary offense and was sentenced to nine days plus a fine of $300, and court costs.

Rusty Campbell, 53, Towanda, PA, entered a plea of guilty before Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark to the offense of two counts of Harassment and was sentenced to pay a fine of $101, and court costs. Trooper Joshua Fisher of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Campbell for the offense.

Gerald V. Brown, 64, Athens, PA, entered a plea of guilty before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw to the offense of Harassment and pay a fine, restitution in the amount of $777.41 and court costs. Trooper Christopher Schelling of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Brown for the offense.

Lynn M. Bastion, 54, Canton, PA, entered a plea of guilty before Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox to the offense of Harassment and was sentenced to pay a fine. Officer Joshua Heckman of the Canton Borough Police Department arrested Bastion for the offense.

Zachary J. Lawson, 28, Troy, PA, entered a plea of guilty before Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox to the offense of Criminal Mischief and was sentenced to pay a fine of $300 and court costs. Trooper Steve Steransky of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Lawson for the offense.

Bradford County District Attorney Daniel J. Barrett announced that the following persons were recently sentenced in the Bradford County Court of Common Pleas, Towanda:

Russell Allen Matthews, 22, Gillett, PA, was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in a Pennsylvania State Police Correctional Facility of from nine months to five years, for the offense of Indecent Assault on a Minor victim.

Mathews will be under a lifetime requirement to report his residence and employment as a sexual offender.

Trooper David Pelachick of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Matthews following investigation of an incident that occurred in Ridgebury Township.

Jeffrey Pearsall Jr, 24, Sayre, PA, was resentenced following revocation of a sentence of probation to a term of imprisonment in a Pennsylvania State Correctional Facility of from four months to two years for the offense of Criminal Trespass, a felony of the second degree. Officer Bruce Hoffman of the Sayre Borough Police Department arrested Pearsall for the offense for the offense in 2008.

Virgil W. Ivy, 50, Gillett, PA, entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor of the first degree. Ivy will be sentenced on Jan. 16, 2014, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Trooper John Youngblood of the Pennsylvania State Police Department arrested Ivy for the offense following investigation of an incident that occurred in Troy Township.

Rebecca Mitchell, 25, Sayre, PA, entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Theft by Unlawful Taking, a misdemeanor of the first degree. Mitchell will be sentence on Jan. 16, 2014, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Sergeant Keith Stackhouse of the Athens Township Police Department arrested Mitchell for the offense in June 28, 2013.

Abraham Nonnemaker, 36, Stroudsburg, PA, entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Simple Assault, a misdemeanor of the second degree. Nonnemaker was sentenced to one year Probation to fine $200, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Officer Rich Horton of the Athens Township Police Department arrested Nonnemaker for the offense in June 13, 2013.

Justin Sluyter, 25, Towanda, PA, entered a plea of guilty to the offenses of Possess of a Controlled Substance, a misdemeanor and Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, misdemeanor of the first degree. Sluyter will be sentenced on Jan. 27, 2014, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Officer Nikki Hoffman of the Athens Borough Police Department arrested Sluyter for the offense in September 9, 2013.

Timothy Beavers, 28, Waverly, NY, entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Retail Theft, a misdemeanor of the second degree. Beavers will be sentenced on Jan. 16, 2014, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Officer Andrew Stevens of the Sayre Borough Police Department arrested Beavers for the offense in Sept. 11, 2014.

Roman A. Kifiev, 24, Towanda, PA, entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor. Ivy was be sentenced to six months probation and a fine of $300, and a license suspension, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department.

Officer John Hennessy of the Towanda Borough Police Department arrested Kifiev for the offense in June 13, 2013.

Matthew P. Gay, 21, Waverly, NY, entered a plea of guilty to four counts of Theft by Unlawful Taking.

Gay will be sentenced on Jan. 27, 2014. Gay was arrested for the offense by Officers of the Pennsylvania State Police and the Sayre Borough Police Department.

Megan L. Cunningham, 24, Mansfield, PA, entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Possession of a Controlled Substance (Bath Salts) and was sentenced to probation for a term of one year. An Agent of the Pennsylvania State Police Vice and Narcotics Unit arrested Cunningham for the offense.

Bradford County District Attorney Daniel J. Barrett announced that the following persons were recently accepted into the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition (ARD) Program in the Bradford County Court of Common Pleas, Towanda:

Matthew Temple, 26, Waverly, NY, charged with Theft, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of nine months. While on Probation, Temple will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department, which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, Temple must perform 40 hours of community service. Trooper Miranda Musick of the Pennsylvania State Police filed charged for an offense in Ulster Township.

Debrah Reese, 53, Canton, PA, charged with the offense of Simple Assault, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of six months. While on Probation, Reese will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department. Additionally, Reese must perform community service. Officer Trey Kurtz of the Canton Borough Police Department filed the Charges in Aug. 1, 2013 for the offense in Canton Borough.

Renee Shattuck, 26, Canton, PA, entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a misdemeanor. Shattuck will be sentenced Jan. 30, 2014, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Officer Joshua Heckman of the Canton Borough Police Department arrested Shattuck for the offense in Aug. 4, 2013.

Bryant Engle, 24, Towanda, PA, entered pleas of guilty to two counts of the offense of Delivery of a Controlled Substance, felonies, and one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance, a misdemeanor. Engle will be sentenced following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Officer Joshua Lake of the Towanda Borough Police Department arrested Engle for the offense in October 2013. Agents of the Pennsylvania State Police Vice and Narcotics Unit arrested Engle following investigation of an incident that occurred in Troy Borough and Monroe Township.

Derek Schanbacher, 34, Roaring Branch, PA, entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor of the first degree. Schanbacher will be sentenced on Jan. 30, 2014, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Officer Trey Kurtz of the Canton Borough Police Department arrested Schanbacher for the offense on July 20, 2013.

Joel Schoonover, 27, Towanda, PA, entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor and Simple Assault, a misdemeanor of the second degree. Schoonover will be sentenced on Jan. 30, 2014, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department.

Trooper Michael Mislevy and Corporal Norman Strauss of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Schoonover following investigation of an incident that occurred in November and Towanda Township.

Janet M. Cobb, 26, Sayre, PA, entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Retail Theft and was sentenced to probation for a term of 24 months and a fine of $250. Cobb was also ordered to pay restitution as determined to be due and owning. Cobb was also resentenced following revocation of her earlier sentence of probation for violation of probation conditions to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility of from 98 days to 12 months. Cobb was also ordered to pay $40 (Buy Money). Bradford County District Attorney Daniel J. Barrett announced that the following persons were recently sentenced in the Bradford County Court of Common Pleas, Towanda:

Patrick Kulick, 29, Towanda, PA, was resentenced following revocation of a sentence of probation a term of imprisonment in Bradford County Correctional Facility of from 49 days to 12 months, Kulick was also ordered to pay restitution of $460 and a fine of $500, for the offense of Criminal Trespass, a misdemeanor of the third degree. Trooper Craig Flynn of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Kulick following investigation of an incident that occurred in Franklin Township.

Kamry Smiley, 23, Athens, PA, was sentenced to probation for a term of 12 months, and a fine of $250, for the offenses of Retail Theft, misdemeanor of the first degree. Officer Jason Serfas of the Athens Township Police Department arrested Smiley for the offense in Aug. 10, 2013.

April May Vanderpool-Thetga, 31, Towanda, PA, was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in a Bradford County Correctional Facility of from 63 days to six months, followed by Probation for a term of one year and a fine of $1500, Vanderpool-Thetga will also lose her drivers license for 36 months for the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor and Fleeing and Eluding, a misdemeanor of the second degree, Driving under suspension, DUI related, a summary offense. Trooper James Dughi and Trooper David Sweeney of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Vanderpool-Thetga following investigation of an incident that occurred in Towanda Township.

Jeremy McKenzie, 27, Towanda, PA, was sentenced to probation for a term of imprisonment in Bradford County Correctional of from 95 days to 12 months and a fine of $1800, McKenzie will also lose his driver's license for 30 months, an additional license suspension of 18 months will be imposed for refusal to submit to testing when arrested for the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor and Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor of the first degree. Officer Thomas VanFleet of the Athens Township Police Department arrested McKenzie for the offense in May 12, 2013. Bradford County District Attorney Daniel J. Barrett announced that the following persons recently entered pleas of "no contest". The plea has the same effect as a guilty plea. It is entered when a defendant cannot recall the crime charged:

Alan Warburton, 58, Towanda, PA, entered a plea of Nolo Contendere to Open Lewdness, misdemeanor of the third degree. Warburton will be sentenced on Jan. 30, 2014, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Trooper Richard Evans of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Warburton for the offense.

Shane Collins, 28, Covington, PA, was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in a Pennsylvania State Correctional Facility of from 16 months to 36 months, and a fine of $2000, for the offenses of two counts of Burglary, a felony of the first degree. Shawn Palmer, 21, Waverly, NY, was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility of from five months to 23 months, he was also ordered to pay restitution of $1200 and a fine of $150 for the offense of Criminal Trespass, a felony of the third degree, Receiving Stolen Property, a misdemeanor of the second degree and Criminal Mischief, a misdemeanor of the third degree. Mark Matikonis, 37, Monroeton, PA, charged with the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of 12 months. While on probation Matikonis will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, Matilonis must perform community service with the DUI Litter Brigade and attend a Victim Impact Panel and he will lose his Pennsylvania driving privilege for 60 days. Trooper Matthew Grebeck of the Pennsylvania State Police filed charges for an offense in Monroe Township on July 11, 2013.

Stephen Maines, 52, Leraysville, PA, charged with the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of 12 months. While on probation Maines will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, Maines must perform community service with the DUI Litter Brigade and attend a Victim Impact Panel and he will lose his Pennsylvania driving privilege for 60 days and pay restitution.

Chester Lawrence, 62, Mehoopany, PA, charged with the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, was accepted into the ARD Program and places on probation for a term of 12 months. While on probation Lawrence will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, Lawrence must perform community service with the DUI Litter Brigade and attend a Victim Impact Panel and he will lose his Pennsylvania driving privilege for 60 days. April Halstead, 32, Laceyville, PA, charged with the offense of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, was accepted into the ARD Program and places on probation for a term of nine months. While on probation Halstead will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, Halstead must perform 24 hours of community service. Deputy Patrick Butkiewicz of the Bradford County Sherriff's Department filed charges for an offense in Tuscarora Township.

Brooke Maloney, 19, Towanda, PA, charged with the offense of False Impersonating a Public Servant, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of 12 months. While on probation Maloney will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, Maloney must perform 24 hours community service. Officer John Werner of the Towanda Borough Police Department filed charges for an offense in June 25, 2013 for the offense in Towanda Borough.

Michael Bastion, 62, Troy, PA, charged with the offense of Interfere of Oral Communication, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of 12 months. While on probation Bastion will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Shane C. Isbell, 34, Ulster, PA, was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility of from 174 days to 348 days, for the offense of Delivery of a Controlled Substance (bath salts).

Agents of the Pennsylvania State Police Drug and Narcotics Unit arrested Isbell following investigation of an incident that occurred in Towanda Borough. Judge Kenneth Brown sentenced Isbell to the 348 days served at the Commonwealth request, so that Isbell could be turned over to Federal Custody for Federal charges.

Michael Slocum, 22, Wyalusing, PA, was sentenced to a term of Probation for a term of 24 months, and a fine of $300.00, for the offense of Corruption of Minors. Edward Doty, 56, Columbia Cross Roads, PA, was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility of from five days to six months, and a fine of $1000, he will also lose his driver's license for 12 months, for the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor. Chief Jarvis Burlingame of the Troy Borough Police Department arrested Doty for the offense in May 7, 2013.

Burton Chilson, 55, Wysox, PA, was sentenced to a total term of imprisonment in a Pennsylvania State Correctional Faculty of from 12 months to five years, he was also ordered to pay restitution of $521.42, and a fine of $2500, he will also lose his driver's license for 18 months, an additional license suspension of 18 months will be imposed for refusal to submit to testing when arrested, for the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor of the first degree. Trooper Michael Moore of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Chilson following investigation of an incident that occurred in Wysox Township on March 1, 2013.

Elisie Brotzman, 52, Laceyville, PA was sentenced to Probation for a term of two years, she was also ordered to pay restitution of $380 (buy money) and a fine of $300, she will also lose her driver's license for six months, for the offense of Conspiracy to Deliver Controlled Substance, a felony. Agents of the Pennsylvania State Police Vice and Narcotics Unit arrested Brotzman following investigation of an incident that occurred in Wyalusing Borough in June 2012.

Derek Cirilo, 27, Sayre, PA, was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in Bradford County Correctional Facility of from 90 days to six months and a fine of $1500, he will also lose his driver's license for 18 months an additional license suspension of 12 months will be imposed for refusal to submit to testing when arrested for the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor of the first degree. Officer Sean Flynn of the Sayre Borough Police Department arrested Cirilo for the offense on May 10, 2013.

Joshua R. Whitehead, 27, Meshoppen, PA, was sentenced to a total term of imprisonment in a Pennsylvania State Correctional Facility of from 33 months to 72 months and fines totaling $1500, for the offenses of Criminal Trespass, Intimidation of a Witness and Terroristic Threats. Trooper Michael Tribendis and Trooper James Dughi of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Whitehead for the offenses.

**Raymond A. Pace, 29, of Towanda, PA was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility of from three months to 24 months; Probation for a term of 24 months, he was also ordered to pay restitution totaling $5820 and fines totaling $500, for the offenses of Access Device Fraud and Theft of Leased Property. Sergeant David Lantz of the Towanda Borough Police Department arrested Pace. Trooper Christopher Schelling of the Pennsylvania State Police respectively arrested Pace for the offenses.

Mark Bell, 25, Wysox, PA was sentenced to Probation for a term of 24 months; he was also ordered to pay restitution of $150, for the offense of Criminal Conspiracy to Commit Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver. An Agent of the Pennsylvania Vise and Narcotics Unit arrested Bell for the offense.

Edward Howard, 47, Sayre, PA, was sentenced to Probation for 12 months, and a fine of $1500, for the offense of Possession of a Controlled Substance. Agents of the Pennsylvania Vise and Narcotics Unit arrested Howard for the offense in February 2013.

Anthony M. Chaffee, 27, Lowman, NY, was resentenced following revocation of his original sentence of probation for violation of probation conditions to a term in the Bradford County Correctional Facility of four months to 12 months, restitution of $500 for the offense of Delivery of a Controlled Substance. An Agent of the Pennsylvania Vise and Narcotics Unit arrested Howard for the offense.

Samuel Corey, 21, Troy, PA, entered pleas of guilty to the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor. Corey will be sentenced on Feb. 6, 2014, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Officer Joshua Heckman of the Canton Borough Police Department arrested Corey for the offense in Aug. 24, 2013.

Bartholomew Wilkinson, 34, Gillett, PA, entered a plea of guilty to the offenses of resisting Arrest, a misdemeanor of the second degree, Disorderly Conduct, a misdemeanor of the third degree. Wilkinson was also sentenced on Dec. 19, 2013, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Officer Jeremy Horton of the Sayre Borough Police Department arrested Wilkinson for the offense in Sept. 16, 2013.

Edward Lichtenfelts, 21, Towanda, PA, entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Access Device Fraud, a misdemeanor of the first degree. Lichtenfelts will be sentence on Feb. 6, 2014, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Officer Josh Lake of the Towanda Borough Police Department arrested Lichtenfelts for the offense in June 12, 2013.

Timothy McDonald, 54, West Lebanon, PA, entered pleas of guilty to the offense of Driving under Influence of Alcohol. McDonald he will be sentenced on March 20, 2014, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Trooper David Sweeney of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested McDonald following investigation of an incident that occurred in Wysox Township in Aug. 6, 2013 arrested McDonald for the offense.

Andrew T. Smales, 61, Sayre, PA, entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol. Smales will be sentenced on Feb. 6, 2014, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Trooper Mark Sadowski of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Smales for the offense.

Smith will be required to register as a convicted sex offender during his lifetime. Trooper Miranda Musick of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Smith following investigation of an incident that occurred in Albany Township.

Chad A. Deitrick, 40, Troy, PA, was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in Bradford County Correctional Facility of from nine days to 23 months, 29 days and a fine of $1000, for the offense of Indecent Assault. Tyler Finogle, 20, Athens, PA, was resentenced following revocation of a sentence of probation to a term of imprisonment in a Pennsylvania State Correctional Facility of from six months to 18 months and a fine of $1000, for the offenses of, two counts of Criminal Trespass, a misdemeanor of the third degree. Officers Bryan Bellows and Reggie Douglas of the Towanda Borough Police Department arrested Finogle for the offense in October and November 2012.

Tyler Finogle, 20, Athens, PA, was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in a Pennsylvania State Correctional Facility of from five months to 24 months, and fines totaling $500, for the offense of Indecent Assault, a misdemeanor of second degree. Officer Derek Dekar of the Athens Borough Police Department arrested Finogle for the offense in July 2013.

Jean Lane, 41, Towanda, PA, was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility of from six months to 23 months, 29 days, and a fine of $500, for the offense of Default in Required Appearance, a misdemeanor of the second degree. Deputy Daniel Bush of the Bradford County Sherriff's Office arrested Lane for the offense in February 22, 2013.

Stacy Bedford, 41, Athens, PA, was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility of from 90 days to 23 months, and a fine of $1500, she will also lose his driver's license for 18 months for the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor of the first degree. Bradford County District Attorney Daniel J. Barrett announced that the following persons were recently accepted into the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition (ARD) Program in the Bradford County Court of Common Pleas, Towanda, Pennsylvania:

Tara McKernan, 36, Towanda, PA charged with the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of 12 months. While on probation, McKernan will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department, which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, McKernan must perform community service with the DUI Litter Brigade and attend a Victim Impact Panel as conditions of ARD placement; she will also lose her Pennsylvania driving privilege for 60 days. Trooper David Sweeney of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested McKernan for the offense on July 27, 2013 in North Towanda Township.

Matthew McLinko, 20, Towanda, PA, charged with the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of 12 months. While on probation, McLinko will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department, which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, McLinko must perform community service with the DUI Litter Brigade, and attend a Victim Impact Panel and he will lose his Pennsylvania driving privilege for 60 days. Trooper Brandon Allis of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested McLinko for the offense in Aug. 31, 2013 in Athens Township.

Casey Voorhees, 24, Corning, NY, entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Receiving Stolen Property, a misdemeanor of the first degree. Voorhees will be sentenced on Feb. 3, 2014, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Officer Timothy Cahill of the Athens Borough Police Department arrested Voorhees for the offense in July 27, 2013.

Alfredo Hernandez, 29, no local address, entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol and was sentenced to imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility for a term of from 21 days to 42 days and a fine of $300. Officer Andrew Stevens of the Sayre Borough Police Department arrested Hernandez for the offense. Immigration authorities have advised the Commonwealth of its intent to deport Hernandez to the country of Mexico.

Stephen Bloss, 32, Sayre, PA, entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor of the first degree. Bloss will be sentenced on Feb. 3, 2014, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Officer Jason Serfas of the Athens Township Police Department arrested Bloss for the offense in July 7, 2013.

Jared Wyman, 42, Harrison, MI, entered a plea of guilty to the offense of offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor and Reckless Endangering, a misdemeanor of the second degree. Wyman will be sentenced on Feb. 3, 2014, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Officer Jason Serfas of the Athens Township Police Department arrested Wyman for the offense in May 5, 2013.

Joseph Van Dyke, 35, Sayre, PA, entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Harassment, a summary offense.

VanDyke was sentenced to time served plus a fine of $100. Trooper Matthew Grebeck of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested VanDyke following investigation of an incident that occurred in Ridgebury Township.

John Teneyck, 39, Troy, PA, entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Fleeing and Eluding, a felony of the third degree, Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor, Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver, a misdemeanor and False reports, a misdemeanor of the second degree. Teneyck will be sentenced on February 2014, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Trooper Joshua Fisher of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Teneyck following investigation of an incident that occurred in Wysox, Asylum and Monroe Townships on Sept. 20, 2013.

Kenzie Rider, 22, Canton, PA, entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Disorderly Conduct, a misdemeanor of the third degree and to Public Drunkenness. Rider will be sentenced following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Officer Joshua Lake of the Towanda Borough Police Department arrested Rider for the offense in May.

Jenelle Maines, 21, Towanda, PA, entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor of the first degree. Maines will be sentenced on Feb. 13, 2014, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Brian Clouse, 56, Rome, PA, was found guilty in a non-jury trial before the Honorable John B. Leete, senior judge, to the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor. Clouse will be sentenced on Feb 3, 2014, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Officer Brian Bellows of the Towanda Borough Police Department arrested Clouse for the offense in June 1, 2013.

Keegan Brown, 29, Lockwood, NY, entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor. Drug paraphernalia charge filed

A Towanda man was recently charged with possession of drug paraphernalia by Athens Borough police.

According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Robert R. Lafy, 45, was found to be in possession of a glass pipe containing burnt residue during a Jan. 7 traffic stop at the Dandy Mini Mart on South Main Street.

Officers responded to the store at about 6:19 p.m. after receiving information that Lafy, who was wanted by the Bradford County Sheriff's Department, was at the location, according to police. Police said they observed Lafy entering an orange Chevrolet, which police then stopped.

Lafy's preliminary hearing on the drug paraphernalia charge is scheduled for Feb. 18.

One cited in Smithfield Twp. MVA

State police at Towanda recently investigated a one-car motor vehicle accident in Smithfield Township.

According to information from state police, at about 10:46 p.m. Jan. 2, a southbound 2002 Ford Explorer operated by Daniel R. Nauta, 19, of Troy, lost control while negotiating a right hand curve on Berwick Turnpike just south of Hoblet Road. Police said the vehicle struck a tree on the roadway's southern berm with its driver front corner.

Police said Nauta wore a seatbelt and was not injured. Police cited Nauta for speeding.

Junior's Towing assisted police at the scene, police said.

Police investigate crash

State police recently investigated a one-car motor vehicle accident in Smithfield Township.

According to information from state police at Towanda, at about 2:30 p.m. Jan. 8, a westbound 2006 Ford Explorer operated by Jessica M. Stevens, 18, of Milan, drove off a south side ditch on Peas Hill Road and struck a tree, then rolled over in the ditch. Police said the vehicle came to final rest on all four wheels.

Stevens was not injured and was wearing a seat belt, according to police. Police cited Stevens for a violation of driving on roadways laned for traffic.

Dave's Towing and the Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department assisted police at the scene.

No injuries in Dushore MVA

State police at Laporte recently investigated a one-car motor vehicle accident in Dushore Borough.

According to state police, at about 3:38 p.m. Jan. 8, an eastbound 2001 Kia Sephia operated by Randy N. Weaver, 50, of Dushore, traveled off the north side of Cherry Street and struck several mailboxes before traveling into a small ditch. Police said Weaver then reversed the vehicle out of the ditch and left the scene.

Police located Weaver shortly thereafter and transported him to Towanda Memorial Hospital for a blood test, according to police. Police cited Weaver for careless driving, police said.

SUNBURY - John James Jackson, of 1288 Captain Bloom Road, reported to state police at Stonington that an antique metal wagon wheel was stolen from his front yard in Rockefeller Township between 7:30 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 570-286-5601.
