Bradford County residents charged with insurance fraud

Dawn G. Hibbert of Monroeton and her brother, David Lynn Griffith of Towanda, have both been charged with the third-degree felony of insurance fraud and the second-degree misdemeanor of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, police said.

The charges stem from an incident in early September in which Hibbert falsely reported to her insurance company that her 2007 Jeep Commander had been stolen, in the hopes of getting a payout from her insurance company, police said.

Around that time, Hibbert also falsely reported to the Towanda police that the vehicle was missing from where she had parked it in a municipal parking lot in the borough, according to police.

In fact, Hibbert and Griffith had arranged to have Griffith drive the vehicle to a remote location on Barclay Mountain in the southern part of Bradford County, so that it would not be located by the police, according to the Towanda police.

Hibbert, 41, was also charged with unsworn falsification to authorities and false reports to law enforcement authorities, police said.

Griffith, 47, and Hibbert have been sent summonses ordering them to appear before Towanda Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark on Jan. 30 for a preliminary hearing.

Chief Randy Epler, Patrolman Brian Wibert, and Patrolman Ryan Edsell of the Towanda police investigated this case, as did the state police.

The theft occurred sometime between Aug. 23, 2011 and Dec. 8, 2012 at a location along state Route 487 in Cherry Township, Sullivan County, police said.

Anyone having information about this crime is asked to contact the state police at Laporte at (570) 946-4610.

A drill bit for gas drilling was lost from the bed of a pickup truck somewhere between the Fed-Ex facility in the Montoursville area and Dushore Borough, police said.

The owner of the drill bit, which weighs approximately 235 pounds, is Varel International of Carrollton, Texas, police said.

The loss occurred sometime between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Dec. 27, police said.

The drill bit is a "PDC" (Premier Diamond Cutter) brand and it was contained in a metal container.

The container is green, round, approximately 1 foot tall and 1 foot in diameter.

Parked vehicle gets into accident after it starts rolling in Dushore

An unattended, parked 2007 Volvo S40 was involved in an accident after it began rolling in Dushore Borough, police said.

The accident occurred at 11:45 a.m. on Dec. 26, when the vehicle was parked in front of the Dushore Market, facing east, police said.

The vehicle began to travel west, striking a stop sign at the intersection of Water Street and South Turnpike Road, police said.

The vehicle continued traveling west before striking an unattended 2013 Ford Taurus that was parked off the north side of Water Street, police aid.

The Volvo S40 also struck a cement wall of a bridge before coming to a final rest, state police at Laporte said.

Accident occurs in Wysox Twp.

No one was injured in a recent motor vehicle accident in Wysox Township, police said.

The accident occurred as William J. Matson Jr. of Rome was driving west on Hillside Drive and 42-year-old Timothy L. Frisbie of Towanda was driving north on Lake Road, police said.

Matson, 29, was unable to stop his vehicle from traveling into the intersection, and it struck the passenger side of Frisbie's vehicle, police said.

Matson was cited for driving at an unsafe speed at the time of the accident, which occurred at 2:50 p.m. on Dec. 26, state police at Towanda said.
